The deformation of the solid matrix affects the fluid pore pressure and flow by altering the pore volume. Such interaction in turn affects the storage of groundwater in the void space. Obviously, this subject is of interest in groundwater hydrology. This paper describes an investigation of the effect of aquifer heterogeneity on the variability of the fluid pressure head and solid's volume strain, where the assumption of a constant vertical total stress leads to a relatively simple relationship between changes in solid's volume strain and fluid pressure head. To solve the problem analytically, focus is placed on the one‐dimensional models. It is found from our closed‐form solutions that the variance and correlation length of the log hydraulic conductivity are important in increasing the variability of pressure head and solid's volume strain. It is hoped that our findings will provide a basic framework for understanding and quantifying field‐scale volume strain processes and be useful in stimulating further research in this area. We present photoelectric photometry of λ And never before published, obtained between February 1982 and December 1990 at 29
different observatories. Then we combine it with all other photometry available to us (previously published, contained in
the I.A.U. Commission 27 Archives, and obtained with the Vanderbilt 16-inch automatic telescope but not yet published), to
yield a 14.8-year data base. Analysis reveals a long-term cycle in mean brightness, with a full range of 0m.15 and a period of 11.4 ± 0.4 years. Because most of our new photometry was concentrated in the 1983-84 observing season,
we analyze that one well-defined light curve with a two-spot model. Spot A keeps a 0m.04 amplitude throughout four rotation cycles whereas the amplitude of spot B diminishes from 0m.09 down almost to 0m.03. The spot rotation periods were 55d.9 ± 0d.6 and 520d.8 ± 1d.0, respectively. 相似文献

根据2006年12月在北黄海走航连续观测所得pCO2 数据,结合水文、化学和生物等要素的同步观测资料,对该海域pCO2分布及其影响因素进行了探讨.结果表明:冬季北黄海表层海水pCO2测值在203~683 μatm之间,平均值为408 μatm.辽南沿岸流及其影响区域是大气CO2汇区;山东半岛以北沿岸,122°E以西受渤海环流输送,黄河悬浮颗粒物影响的高浑浊度区域是大气CO2的一个强源区(最高值达到683 μatm);而占据北黄海大部的黄海混合水以及北黄海整体上是大气CO2的弱源.冬季北黄海表层海水pCO2分布主要受控于海水温度、碳酸盐体系平衡和生物活动,即温度越高pCO2越高、DIC 越高pCO2越高、叶绿素含量越高pCO2越低.其中辽南沿岸流及其影响区域生物活动的影响最为显著.而山东半岛以北沿岸的高浑浊度区域水体性质具有特殊性,较高的 pCO2受控于高的DIC浓度以及陆岸的影响. 相似文献

Theoretical electron density sensitive line ratios R 1 – R 6 of Si x soft X-ray emission lines are presented. We found that these line ratios are sensitive to electron density n e , and the ratio R 1 is insensitive to electron temperature T e . For reliable determination of the electron density of laboratory and astrophysical plasmas, atomic data, such as electron impact excitation rates, are very important. Our results reveal that the discrepancy of the line ratios from different atomic data calculated with the distorted wave (DW) approximation and the R-matrix method is up to 19 per cent at n e = 2 × 108 cm−3 . We applied the theoretical intensity ratio R 1 to the Low Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer (LETGS) spectrum of the solar-like star Procyon. By comparing the observed value (1.29) with the theoretical calculation, the derived electron density n e is 2.6 × 108 cm−3 , which is consistent with that derived from (C v < 8.3 × 108 cm−3 ) . When the temperature structure of the Procyon corona is taken into account, the derived electron density increases from n e = 2.6 × 108 to 2.8 × 108 cm−3 . 相似文献

We study the formation and evolution of voids in the dark matter distribution using various simulations of the popular Λ cold dark matter cosmogony. We identify voids by requiring them to be regions of space with a mean overdensity of −0.8 or less – roughly the equivalent of using a spherical overdensity group finder for haloes. Each of the simulations contains thousands of voids. The distribution of void sizes in the different simulations shows good agreement when differences in particle and grid resolution are accounted for. Voids very clearly correspond to minima in the smoothed initial density field. Apart from a very weak dependence on the mass resolution, the rescaled mass profiles of voids in the different simulations agree remarkably well. We find a universal void mass profile of the form ρ(< r )/ρ( r eff ) ∝ exp[( r / r eff )α ] , where r eff is the effective radius of a void and α∼ 2 . The mass function of haloes in voids is steeper than that of haloes that populate denser regions. In addition, the abundances of void haloes seem to evolve somewhat more strongly between redshifts ∼1 and 0 than the global abundances of haloes. 相似文献

The objective of this paper is to investigate the variation of geomorphology and runoff characteristics in saturated areas under different partial contributing area (PCA) conditions. Geomorphologic information and hydrologic records from two mid‐size watersheds in northern Taiwan were selected for analysis. The PCA ratio in the watershed during a storm was assumed equal to the ratio of the surface‐flow volume to the direct runoff volume from measured hydrologic data. The extents of PCA regions were then determined by using a topographic‐index threshold. Consequently, the geomorphologic factors in saturated and unsaturated areas could be calculated using a digital elevation model, and these factors could then be linked to a geomorphology‐based IUH model for runoff simulation, which can consider both the surface‐ and subsurface‐flow processes in saturated and unsaturated areas, respectively. The results show that geomorphologic characteristics in the saturated areas vary significantly with different PCA ratios especially for higher order streams. A large PCA ratio results in a sharp hydrograph because the quick surface flow dominates the runoff process, whereas the hydrologic response in a low PCA case is dominated by the delayed subsurface flow.
