Lagoonal tidal inlets are a typical morphology of the Central Coast of Vietnam. Recently, navigation channels in these inlets have become increasingly threatened by siltation. This study analyses the relations between sediment distribution and transport trends (using the technique of Sediment Trend Analysis-STA■) in the lagoonal system of the De Gi inlet and then proposes appropriate countermeasures against sand deposition in the navigation channel. The STA identified three types of transport trends in the De Gi inlet, namely dynamic equilibrium, net accretion, and net erosion. Processes associated with the tidal prism have resulted in trends of sediment transport and deposition across the flood and ebb tidal shoals, which maintain a present cross-sectional area of about 1000m^2. However, longshore sediment transport from north to south resulting from northeast waves cause additional sand deposition in the channel. In addition, the effects of refraction associated with a nearby headland and jetty also increase sedimentation. These processes provide the main reasons for sediment deposition in the De Gi inlet. Short term and regular dredging helps to maintain the navigation channel. A system comprised of three jetties (north, south, and weir) is necessary to ensure the longterm cross-sectional stability of the navigation channel. 相似文献

In order to demonstrate the feasibility of geological disposal of spent CANDU fuel in Canada, a safety assessment was performed
for a hypothetical repository in the Canadian Shield. The assessment shows that the maximum long term radionuclide release
from such repository would meet international criteria for dose rate; however, uncertainties in the assumed evolution of the
repository were identified. Such uncertainties could be resolved by the consideration of coupled Thermal-Hydro-Mechanical-Chemical
(THMC) processes. In Task A of the DECOVALEX-THMC project, THM models were developed within the framework of the theory of
poroelasticity. Such model development was performed in an iterative manner, using experimental data from laboratory and field
tests. The models were used to perform near-field simulations of the evolution of the repository in order to address the above-mentioned
uncertainties. This paper presents the definition and rationale of task A and the results of the simulations. From a repository
safety point of view, the simulations predict that the maximum temperature would be well below the design target of 100°C;
however, the stress on the container can marginally exceed the design value of 15 MPa. However, the most important finding
from the simulations is that a rock damage zone could form around the emplacement borehole. Such damage zone can extend a
few metres from the walls of the emplacement holes, with permeability values that are orders of magnitude higher than the
initial values. The damage zone has the potential to increase the radionuclide transport flux from the geosphere; the effect
of such an increase should be taken into account in the safety assessment and mitigated if necessary by the provision of sealing
systems.

The Houjing River flows through Kaohsiung, the most industrialized city in southern Taiwan. In this study, heavy metal concentrations in water and sediments from samples along the river were investigated to illustrate metal contamination levels and call for the awareness of industrial pollution prevention. The heavy metal concentrations in the water samples were low and appear to pose little direct risk to aquatic life and irrigation, but heavy metal concentrations in the sediments are locally very high and present an environmental risk. Cadmium, Cu, and Zn were found in higher concentrations in the river sediments than those recommended in some sediment quality guidelines and findings of river sediments in similar studies worldwide. Hence, the ecological risk of heavy metal contamination in sediments was assessed using the pollution load index (PLI) and potential ecological risk index (RI). Three of the eleven sites sampled were found to have PLI values higher than 1 and 8 of them had ‘considerable’ to ‘very high’ RI values, suggesting a considerable ecological risk. These findings provide an insight into elemental metal contamination of the Houjing River and present a baseline data set, which will be critical for future development and environmental protection plans devised for the region. 相似文献

The current study presents the effects of seasonal variations in the depth-of-closure(Dc)on shoreline evolution using a numerical,one-line shoreline model.Beach erosion of the southern beach of the Nha Trang Coast,which is located in south central of Vietnam,is selected as the study area.This study area is immensely influenced by the tropical monsoon climate that has a clear pattern of large waves in the northeast monsoon season and calm waves in the non-monsoon season.The analysis of the long-term measured shoreline variations from a video-camera system has found a strong correlation of these variations to the monsoon-dominated wave characteristics in the Nha Trang Bay.Therefore,a new approach for determining the depth-of-closure with consideration of the seasonal wave climate changes is purposed in the current study.By implementing this new approach into a numerical,one-line shoreline model,it is found that the seasonal variations of Dc appear to better describe the periodical shoreline evolution due to the monsoon-dominated wave characteristics for the Nha Trang Coast.Such important findings are considered to commonly apply for monsoon-dominated coastal regions in general.These findings are useful information not only for scientific readers but also for the coastal authorities and managers in order to make better countermeasure plans against this kind of erosion mechanism in the future. 相似文献

The length variations and the ultrasonic wave velocities were measured along principal single crystal calcite axes under high pressure.We have observed that six independent elastic constants undergo drastic changes at the calcite I—calcite II transition point at 14.6 kbar. Furthermore, we have determinated the length and volumetric variations in the phases I and II and during the I–II transition.These results allow us to deduce the following important points: influence of the planar CO3 groups on the strong linear compressibility anisotropy in phase I; reciprocal relation between the decrease of elastic constants at the transition point and the anomaly of compressibility of the calcite II; compatibility of our data with the monoclinic structure of calcite II. 相似文献
