Analysis was conducted during 1991 into the fecundity and oocyte size distribution of pumpkinseed, roach and rudd in Lake Banyoles. We found that individual fecundities of these species in Lake Banyoles were lower in comparison with other localities. In roach, there was a moderately significant negative relationship between latitude and egg number. The temporal pattern of the pumpkinseed's oocyte size distribution suggests that it is a multispawner fish that spawns several batches of eggs from mid-May to mid-August. In contrast, roach and rudd seem to be monospawners fish that release only one batch of eggs before mid-May. The monospawning behaviour of rudd in Lake Banyoles is in contrast to the evidence from other waters. Variations in fecundity and spawning mode are discussed on the basis that they are due mainly to differences in local conditions. 相似文献
Radiocarbon-dated macrofossils are used to document Holocene treeline history across northern Russia (including Siberia). Boreal forest development in this region commenced by 10,000 yr B.P. Over most of Russia, forest advanced to or near the current arctic coastline between 9000 and 7000 yr B.P. and retreated to its present position by between 4000 and 3000 yr B.P. Forest establishment and retreat was roughly synchronous across most of northern Russia. Treeline advance on the Kola Peninsula, however, appears to have occurred later than in other regions. During the period of maximum forest extension, the mean July temperatures along the northern coastline of Russia may have been 2.5° to 7.0°C warmer than modern. The development of forest and expansion of treeline likely reflects a number of complimentary environmental conditions, including heightened summer insolation, the demise of Eurasian ice sheets, reduced sea-ice cover, greater continentality with eustatically lower sea level, and extreme Arctic penetration of warm North Atlantic waters. The late Holocene retreat of Eurasian treeline coincides with declining summer insolation, cooling arctic waters, and neoglaciation. 相似文献
The ENE-striking Altyn Tagh fault (ATF), extending along the northern edge of the Ti-betan Plateau, is one of the major important strike-slip faults, and has been known as one of the key areas to debate the eastward extrusion and crustral shortening models of the Tibetan Plateau during and after India-Asia collision. This paper mainly presents new evidence of Late Cenozoic sedimentary process to reconstruct the slip history of the ATF during the Late Cenozoic. Field measurements and laboratory analyses of the sedimentary characteristics in the Late Cenozoic basins in the central Altyn Tagh fault suggest that Late Cenozoic sedimentary sequence should be divided into three units according to facies changes. The paleo-topography reconstruction shows that the sedimentarion in these basins was tightly related with the fault, indicating that the ATF has experienced at least three stages of strike slipping in the Late Cenozoic. New geological data from the Late Cenozoic sedimentary basins and the formation of the present Suo’erkuli basin provide evidence for the displacement of the fault. The result shows that the 80–100 km left-lateral strike-slip displacement of the fault has been accumulated in the Late Cenozoic.
Stream invertebrate distribution patterns reflect local sedimentary and hydraulic conditions, which in turn are influenced by a range of factors operating at larger scales. We assessed whether spatial variation in invertebrate assemblages across a meso-scale catchment is best understood in terms of the characteristics of the study reaches themselves or the characteristics of respective upstream catchment areas. The study river experiences naturally high fine sediment loads as a result of the extraordinary supply of sediment from high erodible marls in its catchment. We hypothesized that between-reach variation in the volume of fine sediment stored within the channel results from a combination of reach and upstream catchment characteristics, and that these characteristics help explain variation in invertebrate assemblages. The storage of fine sediment in study reaches correlated with a number of upstream catchment characteristics, as well as reach-scale hydraulic conditions. Variability in invertebrate assemblages correlated most strongly (62% of variance explained) with the characteristics of the catchment upstream from each reach (area of contribution), with the characteristics of the reaches accounting for only 35% of the variability. The explanatory power of the reach-scale habitat variables was reduced when the effect of upstream catchment conditions was removed. This suggests inbuilt effects of larger scale conditions on reach habitat and invertebrate assemblages. Results lend support to theories of scale hierarchy within river systems and help emphasize the need to target management at upstream catchment areas. 相似文献
This study reports a complex fluid and thermal history using petrography, electron microprobe, isotopic analysis and fluid inclusions in replacement minerals within gypsum pseudomorphs in Tithonian-Berriasian lacustrine deposits in Northern Spain. Limestones and dolostones, formed in the alkaline lakes, contain lenticularly shaped gypsum pseudomorphs, considered to form in an evaporative lake. The gypsum was replaced by quartz and non-ferroan calcite (Ca-2), which partially replaces the quartz. Quartz contains solid inclusions of a preexisting non-ferroan calcite (Ca-1), anhydrite and celestine. High homogenization temperatures (Th) values and inconsistent thermometric behaviour within secondary fluid inclusion assemblages in quartz (147?C351°C) and calcite (108?C352°C) indicate high temperatures after precipitation and entrapment of lower temperature FIAs. Th are in the same range as other reequilibrated fluid inclusions from quartz veins in the same area that are related to Cretaceous hydrothermalism. Gypsum was replaced by anhydrite, likely during early burial. Later, anhydrite was partially replaced by Ca-1 associated with intermediate burial temperatures. Afterward, both anhydrite and Ca-1 were partially replaced by quartz and this by Ca-2. All were affected during higher temperature hydrothermalism and a CO2-H2O fluid. Progressive heating and hydrothermal pulses, involving a CO2-H2O fluid, produce the reequilibration of the FIAs, which was followed by uplift and cooling. 相似文献
A 450 cm sediment core spanning the last 3,500 years was collected from 4.6 m of water in Lake Infernão, located in the floodplain of the Moji-Guaçu River in SE Brazil, to reconstruct the wetland system (river and lake) paleohydrology. A multidisciplinary approach using isotopic (13C and 15N), chemical (C/N ratio and lignin derived phenols) and physical analyses (% water content and density) were used in this study. A coarse sand unit in the lower part of the core (450–417 cm) corresponds to the paleoriver. The rest of the sediment core (dark clay) shows a gradual change from a fluvial to a lacustrine environment. 14C dates from the lower part of the core (417–200 cm), demonstrate an inversion and narrow span in age (3,000–3,500 yrs B.P.) corresponding to a period of rapid fluvial sedimentation and reworking. The lake seems to have been well established only after 3,000 yrs B.P. The change from a fluvial to a lacustrine environment is inferred from the isotopic and chemical data. Sediment of the fluvial phase is characterized by higher 13C values, lower C and N content and a lignin content representative of woody-tissues. Sediment of the lacustrine phase show a gradual decrease in 13C values toward the top of the core reflecting the influence of organic carbon derived by phytoplankton and aquatic macrophytes (C3 plants). The trend to higher C and N content and low C/N ratios also support this interpretation. The lower lignin content indicates increase contributions of non-vascular plants (phytoplankton). Similarly, the slight increase of non-woody tissues (higher C/V ratios) and the predominance of angiosperm plants (high S/V ratios) as organic matter source indicate an increase contribution of aquatic plants during the lacustrine phase. Our data presented here in addition to the geomorphological information and the available paleoclimatic scenario of pollen-inferred analyses for aquatic systems from the southeastern Brazil point to a climatic origin for this fluvial-lacustrine transition at about 3,000 yrs B.P. and to a climatic evolution leading to the present conditions and to a consequently gradual isolation of Lake Infernão from the influence of the Moji-Guaçu River. 相似文献
The 21-cm line intensities in a (Z, R) distribution is studied at the locus of tangential points of the inner parts of the Galaxy using both Northern and Southern data. A corrugation effect is observed in the galactic neutral hydrogen layer with an average wave length of 2 kpc and a wave amplitude of 70 pc. The patterns obtained for the I and the IV quadrant indicate that the inner and the outer parts of the spiral arms are located, respectively, below and above the galactic plane. Also, with high angular resolution the corrugation pattern suggests the existence of ‘faults’ in a geological sense in the inter arm zones. Optical studies of spatial distribution of early objects show good agreement with the neutral hydrogen results, indicating that the observed corrugation pattern is an indication of real distribution of matter in the galactic layer, and not of a kinematical effect. 相似文献
