Data from underground muon telescopes in New Mexico and Bolivia are analyzed in sidereal time and anti-sidereal time to study anisotropies in the rigidity range 20 GV to a few 100s of GV. Using both vertical and North- and South-pointing telescopes in both hemispheres, a latitude range of 70°N–50°S is covered. The distribution of cosmic rays in the inner heliosphere gives rise to a diurnal variation in anti-sidereal time, and also produces a spurious contribution to the anisotropy in sidereal time. It is shown that the anti-sidereal variation is of the P21 type, having opposite phase in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, and maximum amplitude at mid latitudes. The anti-sidereal data are used to correct the sidereal data, using the Nagashima method (Nagashima, Sakakibara, Fenton and Humble, 1985); the resulting corrected sidereal vectors for Northern Hemisphere telescopes have their sidereal maxima close to 3 h sidereal time, in reasonable agreement with sidereal data at higher energies from small air showers. The Nagashima correction also appears to eliminate effects due to the reversal of the Sun's polar magnetic field which show up in the unconnected sidereal data, and which also remain in corrected data using an alternative correction.  相似文献

Increase of marine artificial structures, providing more substrate for jellyfish polyps, has been argued to increase jellyfish outbreaks, although no explicit evidence exists. We report a case study demonstrating a remarkable increase of Aurelia aurita s.l. ephyrae after the installation of a floating pier (48 × 6 m) in a fishing port on the Inland Sea of Japan. Monitoring of ephyrae from January 2010, prior to the installation of the floating pier in April 2010, to July 2011, revealed that their time-weighted average density increased 3.5 fold, from 1.1 to 3.9 ephyrae m?3, and the integrated number of ephyrae exported from the port increased 4.3 fold, from 5.7 × 106 to 25 × 106 ephyrae, after the installation. However, in a nearby port, a control site, the abundance of ephyrae decreased by ca. one third during the same period. Monitoring of polyps showed that they initially colonized the undersurface of the pier by August 2010, followed by a rapid population increase. They strobilated from December 2010 to May 2011. We computed the number of ephyrae released from the strobilae to be ca. 25 × 106, very close to the net increase of ephyrae produced and exported from the port. This study corroborates that the installation of an artificial structure provides new a substrate for polyps, which allows them to produce more ephyrae to induce medusa blooms.  相似文献

Using the cosmic ray sidereal and anti-sidereal diurnal variations observed underground in London and Hobart during the period 1958–1983, it is demonstrated that: (1) the phase changes of the apparent sidereal diurnal variation observed only in the Northern Hemisphere cannot be attributed to the change of the heliomagnetospheric modulation of galactic cosmic ray anisotropy caused by the polarity reversal of the solar magnetic field, but that they are due to the fluctuation of the spurious sidereal variation produced from the anisotropy responsible for the solar semi-diurnal variation; (2) the spurious sidereal variation can be eliminated from the apparent variation by using the observed anti-sidereal diurnal variation; and (3) after the elimination, the sidereal diurnal variations in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres almost coincide with each other and are stationary throughout the period, regardless of the polarity reversal of the heliomagnetosphere. The origin of the corrected sidereal variation is discussed.  相似文献

Optimal displacement feedback control law is derived for a vibration control of a single‐degree‐of‐freedom structure with an active tuned mass damper (ATMD). Analytical expressions of the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) feedback gains for the ATMD are derived by solving the Ricatti equation straightforwardly. Based on these solutions, it is found that if the stiffness of the tuned mass damper (TMD) is calibrated to satisfy a certain condition, the control law is simplified to be composed of the feedback gains only for the displacement of the structure and the velocity of the auxiliary mass stroke, which is referred to as ‘optimal displacement feedback control’. The mean‐square responses of the structure as well as the auxiliary mass against Gaussian white noise excitations are evaluated by solving the Lyapunov equation analytically based on the stochastic optimal control theory. Using these analytical solutions, the optimal damping parameter for the auxiliary mass is also derived. Finally, the optimal displacement feedback control law is presented. The structure of optically thick mass-losing envelopes of white dwarfs are studied in relation to nova outbursts. A sequence of steady mass-loss solutions is constructed for a nova outburst from the maximum photospheric radius to the disappearance. We report on the primary and secondary mineralogies of three coarse-grained igneous calcium-aluminum-rich inclusions (CAIs) (Compact Type A [CTA], Type B [B], and forsterite-bearing type B [FoB]) from the Northwest Africa (NWA) 5343 (CK3.7) and NWA 4964 (CK3.8) carbonaceous chondrites, compare them with the mineralogy of igneous CAIs from the Allende (CV3.6) chondrite, and discuss the nature of the alteration processes that affected the CK and CV CAIs. The primary mineralogy and mineral chemistry of the CK3 CAIs studied are similar to those from Allende; however, primary melilite and anorthite are nearly completely absent. Although the secondary minerals identified in CK CAIs (Al-diopside, andradite, Cl-apatite, clintonite, forsterite, ferroan olivine, Fe,Ni-sulfides, grossular, ilmenite, magnetite, plagioclase, spinel, titanite, and wadalite) occur also in the Allende CAIs, there are several important differences: (i) In addition to melilite and anorthite, which are nearly completely replaced by secondary minerals, the alteration of CK CAIs also affected high-Ti pyroxenes (fassaite and grossmanite) characterized by high Ti3+/Ti4+ ratio and spinel. These pyroxenes are corroded and crosscut by veins of Fe- and Ti-bearing grossular, Fe-bearing Al,Ti-diopside, titanite, and ilmenite. Spinel is corroded by Fe-bearing Al-diopside and grossular. (ii) The secondary mineral assemblages of grossular + monticellite and grossular + wollastonite, commonly observed in the Allende CAIs, are absent; the Fe-bearing grossular + Fe-bearing Al-diopside ± Fe,Mg-spinel, Fe-bearing grossular + Fe,Mg-olivine ± Fe,Mg-spinel, and Ca,Na-plagioclase + Fe-bearing Al-diopside + Fe-bearing grossular assemblages are present instead. These mineral assemblages are often crosscut by veins of Fe-bearing Al-diopside, Fe,Mg-olivine, Fe,Mg-spinel, and Ca,Na-plagioclase. The coarse-grained secondary grossular and Al-diopside often show multilayered chemical zoning with distinct compositional boundaries between the layers; the abundances of Fe and Ti typically increase toward the grain edges. (iv) Sodium-rich secondary minerals, nepheline and sodalite, commonly observed in the peripheral portions of the Allende CAIs, are absent; Ca,Na-plagioclase is present instead. We conclude that coarse-grained igneous CAIs from CK3.7–3.8 s and Allende experienced an open-system multistage metasomatic alteration in the presence of an aqueous solution–infiltration metasomatism. This process resulted in localized mobilization of all major rock-forming elements: Si, Ca, Al, Ti, Mg, Fe, Mn, Na, K, and Cl. The metasomatic alteration of CK CAIs is more advanced and occurred under higher temperature and higher oxygen fugacity than that of the Allende CAIs.  相似文献

We report on a study of Al3509, a large Na- and Cl-rich, radially-zoned object from the oxidized CV carbonaceous chondrite Allende. Al3509 consists of fine-grained ferroan olivine, ferroan Al-diopside, nepheline, sodalite, and andradite, and is crosscut by numerous veins of nepheline, sodalite, and ferroan Al-diopside. Some poorly-characterized phases of fine-grained material are also present; these phases contain no significant H2O. The minerals listed above are commonly found in Allende CAIs and chondrules and are attributed to late-stage iron-alkali-halogen metasomatic alteration of primary high-temperature minerals. Textural observations indicate that Al3509 is an igneous object. However, no residual crystals that might be relicts of pre-existing CAI or chondrule minerals were identified. To establish the levels of 26Al and 36Cl originally present, 26Al-26Mg and 36Cl-36S isotopic systematics in sodalite were investigated. Al3509 shows no evidence of radiogenic 26Mg, establishing an upper limit of the initial 26Al/27Al ratio of 3 × 10−6. All sodalite grains measured show large but variable excesses of 36S, which, however, do not correlate with 35Cl/34S ratio. If these excesses are due to decay of 36Cl, local redistribution of radiogenic 36S after 36Cl had decayed is required. The oxygen-isotope pattern in Al3509 is the same as found in secondary minerals resulting from iron-alkali-halogen metasomatic alteration of Allende CAIs and chondrules and in melilite and anorthite of most CAIs in Allende. The oxygen-isotope data suggest that the secondary minerals precipitated from or equilibrated with a fluid of similar oxygen-isotope composition. These observations suggest that the formation of Al3509 and alteration products in CAIs and chondrules in Allende requires a very similar fluid phase, greatly enriched in volatiles (e.g., Na and Cl) and with Δ17O ∼ −3‰. We infer that internal heating of planetesimals by 26Al would efficiently transfer volatiles to their outer portions and enhance the formation of volatile-enriched minerals there. We conclude that the site for the production of Na- and Cl-rich fluids responsible for the formation of Al3509 and the alteration of the Allende CAIs and chondrules must have been on a protoplanetary body prior to incorporation into the Allende meteorite. Galactic cosmic rays cannot be the source of the inferred initial 36Cl in Allende. The problem of 36Cl production by solar energetic particle (SEP) bombardment and the possibility that 36Cl and 41Ca might be the product of neutron capture resulting from SEP bombardment of protoplanetary surfaces are discussed. This hypothesis can be tested comparing inferred “initial” 36Cl with neutron fluencies measured on the same samples and on phases showing 36S by Sm and Gd isotopic measurements.  相似文献

Using chemical and petrologic evidence and modeling, we deduce that two chondrule‐like particles named Iris and Callie, from Stardust cometary track C2052,12,74, formed in an environment very similar to that seen for type II chondrules in meteorites. Iris was heated near liquidus, equilibrated, and cooled at ≤100 °C h‐1 and within ≈2 log units of the IW buffer with a high partial pressure of Na such as would be present with dust enrichments of ≈103. There was no detectable metamorphic, nebular, or aqueous alteration. In previous work, Ogliore et al. (2012) reported that Iris formed late, >3 Myr after CAIs, assuming 26Al was homogenously distributed, and was rich in heavy oxygen. Iris may be similar to assemblages found only in interplanetary dust particles and Stardust cometary samples called Kool particles. Callie is chemically and isotopically very similar, but not identical to Iris.  相似文献
