Dissolved organic matter (DOM) samples were obtained from a low-density urbanized area located upstream of Paris (along the Marne River, France) and from the treated effluents at the Paris main wastewater treatment plant. These samples were then fractionated according to their hydrophobicity. DOM fractions consisted of nanomolar to sub-micromolar fresh organic substances with extremely strong Hg-complexing ligands. The conditional stability constants (i.e. ; pH ∼ 6.8, INaCl = 0.5 M, T = 25 °C) of the Hg-DOM complexes formed were greater than 1024 M−1, for the reaction Hg2+ + L = HgL (with L as ligand). For upstream of Paris, thermodynamic calculations indicated that the vast majority of Hg-DOM was associated with hydrophobic DOM. In contrast, in the Paris main wastewater treatment plant effluents, Hg-DOM was mainly bound to hydrophilic DOM. Simple dilution calculations highlighted that due to the large DOM loading of urban discharges, the hydrophilic urban DOM ligands may commonly dominate Hg-DOM speciation in the downstream Seine River, except under extreme dilution (i.e. high water episodes or floods).  相似文献

Previous efforts to construct solar coronal fields using surface magnetograph data have generally employed a least squares minimization technique in order to determine the spherical harmonic expansion coefficients of the magnetic scalar potential. Provided there is no source surface high up in the corona, we show that knowledge of the line-of-sight component of the surface magnetic field, B i = B r sin + B cos , is sufficient to uniquely determine the potential coronal magnetic field by an explicit construction of the magnetic scalar potential for an arbitrary B l (, ).The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

本文以EXXON公司P.R.Vail等人创立的层序地层学理论为准,对华南泥盆系的层序地层进行了区域上的研究、分析、对比。研究结果表明,从下泥盆统的洛赫科夫阶至上泥盆统的法门阶可识别出20~21个Ⅲ级层序。华南泥盆系的岩石地层、生物地层、年代地层的系、统、阶界线均已确定,与层序地层研究结果对比,生物地层界线均比相应的层序地层界线滞后。本文试图以层序地层序列为准,建立一新的地层系统作为相应的生物地层、年代地层的系、统、阶相对应的辅助性地层系统。研究结果表明,在岩石地层、生物地层、年代地层研究程度高的地区,可建立层序地层的系、统、阶界线系统以利于野外作业。华南地区的泥盆系内,除弗拉斯阶与法门阶的阶间界线置于饥饿层(starvedsection)外,其他的阶、统、系界线均位于有关阶(统)顶部层序中的HST的顶面。  相似文献

A method of tremor risk estimation on the basis of seismic emission registered in mining exploitation zones is presented in this paper. A considerable part of the emission registered in these conditions, is generated by mechanical devices used in the mine (miner transporters etc.). Therefore, it is not possible to evaluate the risk of mining rock-bursts properly on the basis of interpretation of emission using known theories and models describing rock mass fracturing. In a new approach presented in this paper, the tremor risk is determined on the basis of time variation of a parameter describing the attenuation of seismic vibrations of the rock medium. The attenuation is assessed from the analysis of seismic emission registered in the frequency range from 30 Hz to 1000 Hz. Information about this parameter is encapsulated in the seismic emission regardless of the means of its generation. The method of estimating the temporal variations of attenuation is based on the analysis of signal envelopes of the microseismic emission. Attenuation trends can be interpreted in a straightforward way. As the stress values keep increasing, the following processes take place in the rock mass: compaction (hardening), dilatancy (softening), and then possibly tremors. At the compaction stage attenuation values are lower, while they increase at the dilatancy stage. This mechanism has been proven in practice. Our results can be used for monitoring tremor risk.  相似文献

Bucharest is one of the cities most affected by earthquakes in Europe. Situated at 150–170 km distance from Vrancea epicentral zone, Bucharest had suffered many damages due to high energy Vrancea intermediate-depth earthquakes. For example, the 4 March 1977 event produced the collapse of 32 buildings with 8–12 levels, while more than 150 old buildings with 6–9 levels were seriously damaged. The studies done after this earthquake had shown the importance of the surface geological structure upon ground motion parameters. New seismic measurements are performed in Bucharest area aiming at defining better elastic and dynamic properties of the shallow sedimentary rocks. Down-hole seismic measurements were performed in a number of 10 cased boreholes drilled in the Bucharest City area. Processing and interpretation of the data lead to the conclusion that shallow sedimentary rocks can be considered weak in the area, down to 150–200 m depth. Seismic wave velocity values and bulk density values presented in the paper associated with local geology are useful primary data in the seismic microzonation of Bucharest City. They are used as 1D models to derive transfer functions and response spectra for the stack of sedimentary rocks in several parts of Bucharest area, leading to a better knowledge of the local site amplification and associated frequency spectra. In a recent study the H/V spectral ratio using Nakamuras method was applied on the seismic noise measurements in 22 sites in Bucharest City in order to derive the fundamental period associated with these sites. The values confirm the previous results, showing a dominant resonance in the period range of 1.25–1.75 s. The fundamental periods obtained with Nakamuras method are in good agreement with those computed on the basis of geological and geotechnical data in boreholes, which show an increase of the fundamental period in the Bucharest area from south to north, in the same direction as the increase of the thickness of the Quaternary deposits above the Fratesti layer which is considered the bedrock in the area.  相似文献

A 1200 m-long river segment of Carmel River (California) was constructed to bypass trapped reservoir sediment when San Clemente Dam was removed from the Carmel River in 2015. Hundreds of large boulders were used to construct 53 steps in an 800 m-long reach of the project. Nearly all the boulders were scattered to new locations in high flows of 2017, and have been relatively stable since that time. We analysed the causes of incipient motion and distance travelled for 226 randomly selected large boulders (0.5–1.8 m) impacted by a flood event in winter of 2019. Channel width, water depth, and isolation from neighbouring boulders were the main variables controlling individual large boulder incipient motion during a 10-year peak flow event in the ‘auto-naturalized’ constructed step-pool river in 2019. There is weak statistical evidence that a combination of shear stress and the presence of boulders located laterally downstream of the subject boulder controlled the distance the boulder moved. Frequentist statistics and Akaike information criterion model comparison determined that boulder size, boulder shape, boulder roundness, and local thalweg slope were not good predictors of large boulder incipient motion or distance transported. Average dimensionless critical shear value for the four largest mobilized boulders (1.5–1.6 m) was 0.014. We describe the geomorphic history of the site and use our results to discuss potential causes of unanticipated large boulder transport at the site that occurred in a <2-year peak flow of winter 2016 soon after step construction. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We examine how the stable isotope composition of meteoric water is transmitted through soil and epikarst to dripwaters in a cave in western Romania. δ2H and δ18O in precipitation at this site are influenced by temperature and moisture sources (Atlantic and Mediterranean), with lower δ18O in winter and higher in summer. The stable isotope composition of cave dripwaters mimics this seasonal pattern of low and high δ18O, but the onset and end of freezing conditions in the winter season are marked by sharp transitions in the isotopic signature of cave dripwaters of approximately 1 ‰. We interpret these shifts as the result of kinetic isotopic fractionation during the transition phase from water to ice at the onset of freezing conditions and the input of meltwater to the cave at the beginning of the spring season. This process is captured in dripwaters and therefore speleothems from Ur?ilor Cave, which grew under such dripping points, may have the potential to record past changes in the severity of winters. Similar isotopic changes in dripwaters driven by freeze–thaw processes can affect other caves in areas with winter snow cover, and cave monitoring during such changes is essential in linking the isotopic variability in dripwaters and speleothems to surface climate.  相似文献
