Suspended matter (SM) from the Nyong basin (Cameroon, Africa), a tropical watershed, was collected by tangential flow ultrafiltration to separate particulate (>0.45 μm) and colloidal (<0.45 μm; >20 kDa) fractions. In this basin, two distinctive systems in a selected small catchment (Nsimi–Zoétélé) of the Nyong river basin have been considered: (i) colourless water (groundwater and spring) with a low suspended load (<3 mg/l) and a low total organic carbon content (TOC<1 mg/l) and (ii) coloured water (Mengong brook and Nyong river), which is organic rich (TOC>10 mg/l) and contains higher amounts of SM (10–20 mg/l) than the colourless water. Freeze-dried samples of SM have been analysed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR), and visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS).
Colourless water mainly contains mineral phases, such as poorly ordered kaolinite, plus quartz and goethite in the particulate fraction, and euhedral kaolinite plus amorphous iron oxyhydroxides in the colloidal fraction. In contrast, the SM in coloured water is mainly organic in nature. The mineral phases in the particulate fraction are similar to those from clear water, but with additional phytoliths and diatom frustules composed of biogenic opal. In the colloidal fraction, complexation of Fe3+ and Mn2+ with organic matter is evidenced by EPR, together with significant occurrence of Fe oxyhydroxides associated with organic matter.
The sites of Al, Si, Fe, Mn in colloidal fractions derived from spectroscopic analyses are discussed with reference to chemical analyses performed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Most of the observed solid phases or species correspond to those expected from published thermodynamic calculations for the same hydrosystem, except the colloidal iron oxyhydroxides in the coloured water. The presence of such iron phases is emphasised since they are expected to have large sorption capacities for numerous trace elements.
The crystal chemistry of SM is used to discuss the origin of the mineral particles transported from the soil to the main rivers in terms of mechanical and chemical erosion processes. 相似文献
We present the spectra of accretion discs around white dwarfs calculated with an improved and updated version of Shaviv and Wehrse [Shaviv, G., Wehrse, R., 1991. A&A 251, 117] model. The new version includes line opacities and convective energy transport and can be used to calculate the spectra of hot discs in bright systems (nova-like variables or dwarf novae in outburst) as well as the spectra of cold accretion discs in quiescent dwarf novae. 相似文献

Thirteen lines of the CO band near 4.7 μm have been observed on a jovian hot spot at a resolution of 0.045 cm−1. The measured line profiles indicate that the CO mole fraction is 1.0±0.2 ppb around the 6-bar level and is larger in the upper troposphere and/or stratosphere. An external source of CO providing an abundance of 4+3−2×1016 molecules cm−2 is implied by the observations in addition to the amount deposited at high altitude by the Shoemaker-Levy 9 collision. From a simple diffusion model, we estimate that the CO production rate is (1.5-10)×106 molecules cm−2 s−1 assuming an eddy diffusion coefficient around the tropopause between 300 and 1500 cm2 s−1. Precipitation of oxygen atoms from the jovian magnetosphere or photochemistry of water vapor from meteoroidal material can only provide a negligible contribution to this amount. A significant fraction of the CO in Jupiter's upper atmosphere may be formed by shock chemistry due to the infall of kilometer- to subkilometer-size Jupiter family comets. Using the impact rate from Levison et al. (2000, Icarus143, 415-420) rescaled by Bottke et al. (2002, Icarus156, 399-433), this source can provide the observed stratospheric CO only if the eddy diffusion coefficient around the tropopause is 100-300 cm2 s−1. Higher values, ∼700 cm2 s−1, would require an impact rate larger by a factor of 5-10, which cannot be excluded considering uncertainties in the distribution of Jupiter family comets. Such a large rate is indeed consistent with the observed cratering record of the Galilean satellites (Zahnle et al. 1998, Icarus136, 202-222). On the other hand, the ∼1 ppb concentration in the lower troposphere requires an internal source. Revisiting the disequilibrium chemistry of CO in Jupiter, we conclude that rapid vertical mixing can provide the required amount of CO at ∼6 bar for a global oxygen abundance of 0.2-9 times the solar value considering the uncertainties in the convective mixing rate and in the chemical constants. 相似文献
As part of the NEAR Radio Science investigation, a global solution that includes both spherical and ellipsoidal harmonic gravity fields of Eros, Eros pole and rotation rate, Eros ephemeris, and landmark positions from the optical data was generated. This solution uses the entire one-year in orbit collection of X-band radiometric tracking (Doppler and range) from the Deep Space Network and landmark tracking observations generated from the NEAR spacecraft images of Eros. When compared to a constant density shape model, the gravity field shows a nearly homogeneous Eros. The Eros landmark solutions are in good agreement with the Eros shape model, and they reduce the center-of-mass and center-of-figure offset in the z direction to 13 m. Most of the NEAR spacecraft orbits are determined in all directions to an accuracy of several meters. The solution for the ephemeris of Eros constrains the mass of Vesta to 18.2±0.4 km3/s2 and reduces the uncertainty in the Earth-Moon mass ratio. 相似文献
Two new campaigns devoted to the observation of the solar limb distortions were made at the Pic-du-Midi Observatory, in September 2000 and September 2001, by means of the scanning heliometer. This apparatus can be used now routinely to accurately determine solar limb profiles (at two wavelengths), at any heliographic latitudes. Each measurement is made within 44 milliseconds (of time) which permits to record a limb profile together with the seeing. Scans are automatically rejected for seeing larger than 1.3 arc sec. Such conditions are essential to perform high-quality observations necessary to obtain the quadrupole term (l=2) in the polynomial expansion of the radius contour R() = constant = R0left(1+lclPl()right). Exceptional meteorological conditions in September 2001 (seeing of the order of 18 cm, for a 50 cm clear aperture of the refractor) enabled us to determine c2 and c4 (see Table I) with an accuracy of a few milli-arc-sec. Results indicate a distorted solar shape, the departures from a pure spherical body not exceeding 20 milli-arc-sec. We propose a model to interpret such results (the combination of a nearly uniform rotating core with a prolate solar tachocline and an oblate surface), which is briefly discussed. Our results are confronted to those obtained from space. We conclude that measurements of the quadrupole term from the ground are possible, but of high difficulty and can be obtained only during excellent weather conditions. The hexadecapole term should be only obtained from space. We show that an astrometric satellite would be required, whose mission would be also to accurately determine the solar rotation profiles (both surface and in depth) in order to unambiguously determine the inertia moments of the Sun through the Jn terms.
