Some results of the photographic observations of double stars with 65 cm refractor of Pulkovo observatory are presented. We use the apparent motion parameters (AMP) method which allows to determine the orbits and to carry out the dynamical investigation of wide binaries on the basis of a short arc of their orbital motion. We have determined more than 40 orbits for wide pairs and also the sum of masses and in some cases—the mass-ratio of components. The references to our works and the basic results of observations are contained in Kisselev et al. [2004. Catalogue of relative positions of visual double stars made on the observations with 26 refractor of Pulkovo observatory. Strassbourg, I/297]. We apply two ways of revealing the hidden mass of our stars, namely: revealing of possible perturbations from comparison of observational and calculated positions using differences O-C (for instance, perturbations in the orbital motion of ADS 15571) and also by means of comparison of the sum of the masses obtained by us and the sum of the masses obtained by means of the mass-luminosity relation. An excess of masses of about 1-3 solar masses is detected for binaries: ADS 497, ADS 8450 and ADS 10329 by means of last method. The estimations of the masses for some binaries are discussed. Also we justify the necessity of precise parallaxes and relative radial velocities of stars, which could be measured by space telescopes such as the GAIA as the additional parameters for determination of orbits of binaries.  相似文献

A list of selected binary stars is presented that have been observed for several decades using a 26-inch refractor at the Pulkovo Observatory. These stars are at a distance from 3.5 to 25 pc from the Sun. They belong to spectral classes F, G, K, and M. Their masses range from 0.3 to 1.5 solar masses. We have analyzed them as possible parent stars for exoplanets taking into account the physical characteristics of these stars. In view of dynamic parameters and orbital elements that we have obtained by Pulkovo observations, ephemerides of positions for the coming years are calculated. The boundaries of the habitable zones around these stars are calculated. The astrometric signal that depends on the gravitational influence of hypothetical planets is estimated. Space telescopes for astrometric observations with microsecond accuracy can be used to detect Earth-like planets near the closest stars of this program. This paper presents an overview of astrometric programs of searches for exoplanets.  相似文献

The dynamical stability of 38 observed hierarchical triple stars with known orbital elements of the internal and external binary subsystems and component masses is considered. Four different criteria of dynamical stability are used. The observed stability parameters and their critical values are calculated by taking into account errors in the orbital elements and component masses. Most triple systems are stable. According to some criteria, several triple stars (ADS 440, ξ Tau, λ Tau, ADS 3358, VV Ori, ADS 10157, HZ Her, Gliese 795, ADS 15971, and ADS 16138) may be dynamically unstable. This result is probably associated with unreliability of the empirical stability criteria and/or with errors in the observed quantities.  相似文献

We present relative astrometric measurements of visual binaries made during the second semester of 2005, with the speckle camera PISCO at the 102 cm Zeiss telescope of Brera Astronomical Observatory, in Merate. Our sample contains orbital couples as well as binaries whose motion is still uncertain. The purpose of this long term program is to improve the accuracy of the orbits and determine the masses of the components. We performed 130 new observations of 120 objects, with most of the angular separations in the range 0″.1–4″, and with an average accuracy of 0″.01. Most of the position angles could be determined without the usual 180. ambiguity with the application of triple‐correlation techniques, and their mean error is 0°8. We have found a possible new triple system: ADS 11077. The measurements of the closest binaries were made with a new data reduction procedure, based on model fitting of the background of the auto‐correlations. As this procedure proved to be very efficient, we have re‐processed the old observations of close binaries made with PISCO in Merate since 2004. We thus improved 20 measurements already published and obtained 7 new measurements for observations that were previously reported as “unresolved”. We finally present revised orbits for ADS 684, MCA 55Aac (in the Beta 1 Cyg–Albireo multiple system) and ADS 14783 for which the previously published orbits led to large residuals with our measurements and for which the new observations made since their computation allowed a significant improvement of those old orbits. The sum of the masses that we derived for those systems are consistent with the spectral type of the stars and the dynamic parallaxes are in good agreement with the parallaxes measured by Hipparcos. We present relative astrometric measurements of visual binaries made in 2013 with the speckle camera PISCO at the 102‐cm Zeiss telescope of Brera Astronomical Observatory, in Merate. Our observing list contains orbital couples as well as binaries whose motion is still uncertain. We obtained 134 new measurements of 129 visual binary stars, with angular separations in the range 0.≈23–5 and an average accuracy of 0.≈01. The mean error on the position angles is 0.°5. Most of the position angles were determined without the usual 180° ambiguity with the application of triple‐correlation techniques and/or by inspection of the long integration files. We also present new revised orbits for ADS 1097, 5871, 7203, 7775, 9378, 9578, and 11186, partly derived from PISCO observations. The corresponding estimated values for the masses of those systems are compatible with the spectral types. (© 2015 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Preliminary new orbital elements were computed for the visual binary stars A 1 ‐ ADS 1345, A 2629 ‐ ADS 3610, BU 560 ‐ ADS 4371, STF 3115 ‐ ADS 4376, STF 1426 AB ‐ ADS 7730 and STF 2437 ‐ ADS 11956. Using Straizys and Kuriliene's data, we derived new formulae for computing dynamical parallaxes for luminosity classes IV and V. The values found for those systems are in agreement with the Hipparcos parallaxes and the corresponding systemic masses are consistent with the spectral types. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We present relative astrometric measurements of visual binaries, made in 2012 with the speckle camera PISCO at the 102‐cm Zeiss telescope of Brera Astronomical Observatory, in Merate. Our observing list contains orbital couples as well as binaries whose motion is still uncertain. We obtained 355 new measurements of 344 visual binary stars, with angular separations in the range 0′.14–6′.9, and an average accuracy of 0.′02. The mean error on the position angles is 0°.5. Most of the position angles were determined without the usual 180° ambiguity with the application of triple‐correlation techniques and/or by inspection of the long integration files. We also present new revised orbits for ADS 10786 BC, 12144, 12515, 16314, and 16539, partly derived from PISCO observations. The next generation of astrometric instruments will reach accuracies deserving new treatments. In order to get astrometric parameters achieving the precision permitted by the measurements, it will be necessary to take into account effects that were neglected until the present time. Two effects concerning the orbital elements of binary stars are considered hereafter: the former is the local perspective (LP) effect, which is due to the variation of the distance and of the orientation of the orbital plane during the observation time-span; the equations describing this effect are derived for the first time. The latter effect is the light-travel time (LTT), which is also related to the orientation of the orbital plane, and which is as efficient as the preceding one. Taking these effects into account would allow to find the ascending nodes of the orbits, and lead to orbital elements more accurate than when they are ignored.
It is derived from simulations that, at a distance of 5 pc, and assuming velocities typical of Population I stars, the position of the right ascending node could be derived for a few simulated unresolved binaries when the astrometric measurements have errors around 1 μas. For the resolved brown dwarf binary 2MASS J07464256+2000321, it appears that ignoring the LP effect would result in underestimating the masses of the components by 14 per cent of the errors as soon as the astrometric errors are around 20 μas for each measurement. However, a 'degenerate LP solution', taking into account the variation of the semimajor axis when the distance is varying, should provide reliable masses when the measurement errors are larger than 1 or 2 μas. A few binaries in the Gaia program could deserve a degenerate LP solution, whereas a complete LP+LTT solution could be justified for resolved binaries observed with Space Interferometry Mission ( SIM ).  相似文献

Using the method of apparent motion parameters, we have studied the relative motion of the components in 561 pairs of wide (ρ > 2″) and relatively nearby (Hipparcos parallaxes > 0.01″) visual double stars based on data from the WDS catalog. The minimum masses of the double stars have been calculated at given parallaxes. We have identified 358 optical pairs. For 11 stellar pairs, we have found the minimum mass to exceed the estimate corresponding to their spectral types and luminosities. This excess is 5–7 M for two stars, ADS 7446 and 9701.  相似文献

We present an investigation of the differences between quasi-instantaneous stellar proper motions from the Hipparcos catalogue and long-term proper motions determined by combining Hipparcos and the Astrographic Catalogue. Our study is based on a sample of about 12000 stars of visual magnitude from 7 to 10 in two declination zones on the northern and equatorial sky. The distribution of the proper-motion differences shows an excess of large deviations. This is caused by the influence of orbital motion of unresolved binary systems. The proper-motion deviations provide statistical evidence for 360 astrometric binaries in the investigated zones, corresponding to about 2400 such binaries in the entire Hipparcos catalogue, in addition to those already known. In order to check whether the observed deviations are compatible with standard assumptions on the basic parameters of binary stars, we model the impact of orbital motion on the observed proper motions in a Monte Carlo simulation. We show that the simulation yields an acceptable approximation of the observations, if a binary frequency between 70% and 100% is assumed, i.e.if most of the stars in the sample are assumed to have a companion. Thus Hipparcos astrometric binaries confirm that the frequency of non-single stars among field stars is very high. We also investigate the influence of the mass function for the secondary component on the result of the simulation. A constant mass function and mass functions with moderate increase towards low masses lead to results, which are compatible with the observed proper-motion effects. A high preponderance of very-low-mass or substellar companions as produced, for example, by a M—1 power law is not in agreement with the frequency of proper-motion deviations in our sample of stars.  相似文献

Photoelectric UBV observations of two W UMa-type stars, BV Dra (ADS 9537A) and BW Dra (ADS 9537B), are presented. New periods and epochs of minima are given for both variables, and magnitudes at maximum light are determined from standard star observations. It is concluded that these variables are quite normal W UMa stars. The two variables are members of the visual binary star ADS 9537, for which the angular separation and the position angle are determined from the photographic observations. On leave of absence from Dept. of Earth Science and Astronomy, College of General Education University of Tokyo.  相似文献

We present relative astrometric measurements of visual binaries, made in 2009 with the speckle camera PISCO at the 102 cm Zeiss telescope of Brera Astronomical Observatory, in Merate. Our observing list contains orbital couples as well as binaries whose motion is still uncertain. We obtained 345 new measurements of 259 objects, with angular separations in the range 0.″18–4.″6, and an average accuracy of 0.″011. The mean error on the position angles is 0.°6. Most of the position angles were determined without the usual 180° ambiguity with the application of triple‐correlation techniques and/or by inspection of the long integration files. We have found a possible new close component for ADS 2377, which would be a new quadruple star system. We also present new revised orbits for ADS 8035, 9982, 11484, and MLR 198, partly derived from those observations, and infer estimated values for the masses of those systems that are compatible with the spectral types (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Although magnetic fields have been discovered in ten massive O‐type stars during the last years, the origin of their magnetic fields remains unknown. Among the magnetic O‐type stars, two stars, HD 36879 and HD 57682, were identified as candidate runaway stars in the past, and θ1 Ori C was reported to move rapidly away from its host cluster. We search for an explanation for the occurrence of magnetic fields in O‐type stars by examining the assumption of their runaway status. We use the currently best available astrometric, spectroscopic, and photometric data to calculate the kinematical status of seven magnetic O‐type stars with previously unknown space velocities. The results of the calculations of space velocities suggest that five out of the seven magnetic O‐type stars can be considered as candidate runaway stars. Only two stars, HD 155806 and HD 164794, with the lowest space velocities, are likely members of Sco OB4 and NGC 6530, respectively. However, the non‐thermal radio emitter HD 164794 is a binary system with colliding winds, for which the detected magnetic field has probably a different origin in comparison to other magnetic O‐type stars (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The proposed baseline GAIA mission will be able to detect the astrometric signature of Jupiter-size planets around of the order of a million stars, using either global or narrow-angle astrometry. If the mission can realize the higher astrometric accuracy that photon statistics allows for bright stars, lower-mass planets (from Earth size to ten times larger) can be found around ten to a few hundred stars.  相似文献

We present a radial velocity study of the triple-lined system Gliese 644 and derive spectroscopic elements for the inner and outer orbits with periods of 2.965 5 and 627 d. We also utilize old visual data, as well as modern speckle and adaptive optics observations, to derive a new astrometric solution for the outer orbit. These two orbits together allow us to derive masses for each of the three components in the system: M A=0.410±0.028 (6.9 per cent), M Ba=0.336±0.016 (4.7 per cent), and M Bb=0.304±0.014 (4.7 per cent) M. We suggest that the relative inclination of the two orbits is very small. Our individual masses and spectroscopic light ratios for the three M stars in the Gliese 644 system provide three points for the mass–luminosity relation near the bottom of the main sequence, where the relation is poorly determined. These three points agree well with theoretical models for solar metallicity and an age of 5 Gyr. Our radial velocities for Gliese 643 and vB 8, two common proper motion companions of Gliese 644, support the interpretation that all five M stars are moving together in a physically bound group. We discuss possible scenarios for the formation and evolution of this configuration, such as the formation of all five stars in a sequence of fragmentation events leading directly to the hierarchical configuration now observed, versus formation in a small N cluster with subsequent dynamical evolution into the present hierarchical configuration.  相似文献

Extensive testing suggests that astrometric techniques can be employed to detect and study virtually any planetary system that may exist within 40 light years (12.5 parsec) of the Sun. Following the conclusion of Paper I [G. Gatewood, Icarus27 (1976), 1–12], the astrometric group at the Allegheny Observatory began an intensive survey of 20 nearby stars to detect the nonlinear variations in their motion that planetary systems would induce. Several tests conducted to further our understanding of the limitations of this survey indicated that the photographic detector itself is responsible for the majority of the random error. A new photoelectric detector has been designed and a simplified prototype of it successfully tested. The new detector is expected to be able to utilize virtually all of the astrometric information transmitted through the Earth's atmosphere. This is sufficient to determine relative positions to within an accuracy of approximately 1 milliarcsec/hr. Such precisions exceed the design capabilities of the best existing astrometric telescopes, thus a feasibility study has been conducted for the design of an improved instrument. The study concludes that a new ground-based telescope and the new detector combined should be able to study stars as faint as the 17th magnitude with an annual accuracy of a few tenths of a milliarcsecond. However, to obtain the ultimate accuracy possible from current technology, we must place an astrometric system above the Earth's atmosphere. A space-borne instrument utilizing the new detector would in theory have sufficient accuracy to detect any Earth-like planet orbiting any of the several hundred stars nearest the Sun.  相似文献

We present relative astrometric measurements of visual binaries taken during the second semester of 2004 with the Pupil Interferometry Speckle camera and Coronagraph (PISCO) at the 1-m Zeiss telescope of the Brera Astronomical Observatory, in Merate, Italy. We performed 207 new observations of 194 objects with angular separations in the range 0.1–4.0 arcsec and an accuracy better than ∼0.01 arcsec. Our sample contains orbital couples as well as binaries whose motion is still uncertain. Our purpose is to improve the accuracy of the orbits and constrain the masses of the components.
Those measurements show that the orbit of ADS 15115 needs to be revised; we propose a new orbit for this object.  相似文献

We present a catalogue of radial velocities of Galactic stars with high precision astrometric data CRVAD which is the result of the cross‐identification of star lists from the General Catalog of Average Radial Velocities (GCRV) and from the homogeneous All‐sky Compiled Catalogue of 2.5Million Stars (ASCC‐2.5). The CRVAD includes accurate J2000 equatorial coordinates, proper motions and trigonometric parallaxes in the Hipparcos system, Johnson's BV photometric data, spectral types, multiplicity and variability flags from the ASCC‐2.5, and radial velocities, stellar magnitudes and spectral types from the GCRV for 34553 ASCC‐2.5 stars. The CRVAD was used for the construction of a sample of standard stars with accurate astrometric, photometric and radial velocity data for the RAVE project. A second application of the CRVAD , the radial velocity determination for 292 open clusters (including 97 with previously unknown radial velocities), using their newly defined members from proper motions and photometry in the ASCC‐2.5, is briefly described. The proposed global astrometry mission GAIA , recently recommended within the context of ESA's Horizon 2000 Plus long-term scientific programme, appears capable of surveying the solar neighbourhood within ∼200 pc for the astrometric signatures of planets around stars down to the magnitude limit of V =17 mag, which includes late M dwarfs at 100 pc.
Realistic end-to-end simulations of the GAIA global astrometric measurements have yielded the first quantitative estimates of the sensitivity to planetary perturbations and of the ability to measure their orbital parameters. Single Jupiter-mass planets around normal solar-type stars appear detectable out to 150 pc ( V ≤12 mag) with probabilities ≥50 per cent for orbital periods between ∼2.5 and ∼8 yr, and their orbital parameters are measurable with better than 30 per cent accuracy to about 100 pc. Jupiter-like objects (same mass and period as our giant planet) are found with similar probabilities out to 100 pc.
These first experiments indicate that the GAIA results would constitute an important addition to those that will come from the other ongoing and planned planet-search programmes. These data combined would provide a formidable testing ground on which to confront theories of planetary formation and evolution.  相似文献
