Levels of naturally occurring radioactivity in sediment samples of Beni Haroun dam have been investigated. The activity concentrations of 238U and 232Th decay chains and 40K primordial radionuclide have been measured using high-resolution HPGe detector. Activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K radionuclides were found in the ranges 9–66, 14–37, and 177–288 Bq/kg with the mean values 24.67, 25.98, and 208.10 Bq/kg, respectively. Radiological hazard parameters were estimated based on the activity concentrations for 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K to find out any radiation hazard associated with the sediments. Correlation studies between pairs of radionuclides were performed and discussed, and the obtained results are compared with international recommended values.  相似文献

An assessment of the groundwater in areas underlain by pegmatite in Ede, southwestern Nigeria was carried out to determine the concentration of Potassium-40 (40K), Uranium-238 (238U) and Thorium-232 (232Th) radionuclides. In the earlier work, it was established that zircons in these pegmatites have suffered a high degree of metamictization that has enhanced continuous loss of some radionuclides since the time of emplacement of the pegmatite host rock to the present. The aim of this work is to determine whether or not there is corresponding increase in the concentration of radionuclides in groundwater in the study area. Fifteen groundwater samples were collected from both hand dug wells and boreholes in the area. Ten samples were from Ede town, two samples each from nearby communities of Iddo and Ekuro and one from Iwoye, where the bedrocks were not pegmatites. All the 15 samples were analyzed with the Sodium Iodide scintillator (NaI [Tl]) detector at the Centre for Energy Research and Development, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The results showed varying concentrations of the radionuclides in the water samples. Activity concentrations of Potassium-40 (40K) indicated an average value of 17.149 Bq/L for samples from Ede, 9.265 Bq/L for Iddo, 6.6 Bq/L for Ekuro, while Iwoye has a value of 21.21 Bq/L. The Uranium-238 (238U) series had an average value of 13.64 Bq/L for Ede, 13.49 Bq/L for Ekuro, 11.685 Bq/L for Iddo and 12.04 Bq/L for the lone sample from Iwoye. Thorium-232 (232Th) series had an average value of 11.182 Bq/L for Ede, while average values of 7.79 Bq/L and 9.025 Bq/L, respectively, were recorded for Iddo and Ekuro and 12.25 Bq/L for Iwoye. The annual effective dose level of 40K is generally below the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended dosage of 0.1 mSv/y except for three locations, while those of 238U and 232Th are in excess of the standard values. The high radionuclides in the groundwater in the study area were not due to anthropogenic sources but directly due to geological processes which release the radioisotopes from rocks after weathering, continuous loss from metamict minerals and natural lateral mobility from regions of radionuclides’ release to other areas. There is thus the need to carry out systematic studies of the radionuclides concentrations on regional scale in the area which could lead to investigating on both short- and long-term health effects on organic species in these areas, and development of purification systems before utilizing water from the areas for domestic and industrial purposes.  相似文献

Relatively high activity concentrations of some radionuclides (226Ra, 238U, 232Th, and 40K) have been measured in surface and subsurface soils in areas (southern Iraq) where many warfare actions have taken place during the Iran–Iraq and Gulf wars. Such high activity concentrations might be related to the increase in cancerous injuries and birth defects recently reported. The study was aimed to estimate the activity concentrations of some nuclides and a comparison of results with international health hazard indices. In addition, the excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) was assessed. Soil samples were collected at three depths (0, 30, and 60 cm) in three locations in Abu Al Khasib and Ad Dayr in Basrah governorates. The average activity concentrations were estimated employing hyper-pure germanium HPGe gamma-ray detection technology. The values obtained in Abu Al Khasib were: 58.44 Bq/kg (226Ra), 43.56 Bq/kg (238U), 19.38 Bq/kg (232Th), and 321.76 Bq/kg (40K) whereas in Ad Dayr 45.71 Bq/kg (226Ra), 35.53 Bq/kg (238U), 20.33 Bq/kg (232Th), and 337.02 Bq/kg (40K). According to UNSCEAR (Sources and effects of ionizing radiations: a report on the effects of atomic radiation to the general assembly with scientific annexes, Annex B, United Nations, New York, 2000) report, higher levels of 226Ra, 238U concentrations than the world’s average values (35 Bq/kg) were observed in both locations. In addition, some radiation hazard indices were determined for both locations: average outdoor external dose (D out), average indoor external dose (D in), total average value of the external dose (D tot), average annual outdoor effective dose (E out), average annual indoor effective dose (E in), and averaged total annual effective dose (E tot). Values for D tot and E tot were higher than the worldwide median (143 nGy/h and 0.48 mSv/y, respectively) in both regions. The measured values of activity concentrations were also used to estimate the outdoor, indoor, and total ELCR. The ELCR values were higher than the worldwide averages. Further analyses and studies need to assess the real risks for human health and possible soil remediation.  相似文献

The study was conducted for the investigation of amount of radioactivity in the barren and cultivated soil of Bio saline Research Station in Pakka Anna, established by Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB) in 1990, 34 km. away from the city of Faisalabad, in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The studies were done on an area of about 100 hectares of two types of virgin and fertilized saline soils. The technique of gamma ray spectrometry was applied using HPGe (high purity germanium) gamma ray detector and a PC based MCA. Activity concentration levels due to 40K, 137Cs, 226Ra and 232Th were measured in 250 saline soil samples collected at a spacing of about 4 hectares at the depth level of 0–25 cm. with a step of 5 cm. depth. Activity concentrations ranges of the concerned radionuclides for both of the soils were as follows: 40K, for virgin and cultivated saline soil was 500–610.2 and Bq/kg 560.2–635.6 respectively; 137Cs, 3.57–3.63 and 1.98–5.15 Bq/kg 238U, 26.3–31.6 and 30.3–38.7 Bq/kg, and 232Th, 50.6–55.3 and 50.6–64.0 Bq/kg respectively. The absorbed dose rate in air lies in the region 63–73 nGyh-1 and 68–83 nGyh-1 for virgin and fertilized soils respectively. This indicates that this region lies in the area of higher radiation background, while comparing with the worlds’ average. The slightly higher value of dose in the fertilized farm may be due to the use of fertilizers for cultivation. Before the radiometric measurements, chemical analysis for concentration of Na, Ca and Mg was also carried out along with the measurement of electrical conductivity and pH of the soil samples.  相似文献

We report SHRIMP U–Pb age of zircons in four samples of eclogite and one sample of orthogneiss from Sulu ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) zone in Yangkou area, eastern China. UHP rocks are distributed along the Sulu orogenic belt suturing North China Block with South China Block. In Yangkou area, UHP unit is well exposed for about 200 m along Yangkou beach section and consists mainly of blocks or lenses of ultramafic rocks and eclogite together with para- and orthogneiss which are highly sheared partly. Zircon grains examined in this study from eclogite show oscillatory zoning and overgrowth texture in CL images, and most of the grains have high Th/U ratio ranging from 0.8 to 2.1 indicating an igneous origin. The weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of zircons from the four samples range from 690 to 734 Ma. These ages can be correlated to the magmatic stage of the protoliths. In rare cases, zircon grains possess a narrow rim with very low Th/U ratio (< 0.02). EPMA U–Th-total Pb dating of such rim yields younger ages that range from 240 to 405 Ma marking the metamorphic stage. On the other hand, zircons from the orthogneiss show irregular shape and zoning with inclusion-rich core and inclusion-free rim. These grains of zircon yield U–Pb discordia intercept ages of 226 ± 63 Ma and 714 ± 110 Ma (MSWD 0.78). Bulk of the areas of the rims rim of the zircons demonstrate younger 206Pb/238U ages close to the upper intercept, with low Th/U ratio (< 0.20) indicating their metamorphic origin. In contrast, the cores show older 206Pb/238U ages close to lower intercept and high Th/U ratio of (0.14–5.25) indicating their igneous origin. The upper intercept age is also commonly noted in zircons from eclogite. Our results suggest a bimodal igneous activity along this zone during the Neoproterozoic, probably related to the rifting of the Rodinia supercontinent.  相似文献

This study aims to evaluate the activity concentrations of 238U, 226Ra, 232Th, 228Th and 40K along the beaches of Sithonia Peninsula which are adjacent to the rock-types of the Sithonia Plutonic Complex. These range from 6–673, 5–767, 5–1750, 6–1760 and 185–875 Bq/kg respectively. The (% wt.) heavy magnetic (HM) fraction (epidote, allanite, hornblende, biotite and garnet), the heavy non-magnetic (HNM) fraction (monazite, zircon, titanite and apatite) and the total heavy (TH) fraction, were correlated with the concentrations of the measured radionuclides in the bulk samples. The HNM fraction seems to control the activity concentrations of 238U in all samples, while the HM fraction, at least for the heavy mineral rich samples bearing high amounts of epidote crystals with allanite cores, controls their 232Th content. The measured radionuclides in beach sands were normalized to the respective values measured in the granitic rocks, which are their most probable parent rocks, in order to provide data on their enrichment or depletion. The annual effective dose varies from 0.013 to 0.688 mSv y?1 for local people working on the beach, while for tourists the annual external effective dose ranges between 0.003 and 0.165 mSv y?1.  相似文献

Water samples, representing seawater, river water, reservoir water, drinking water, and underground water were studied through gamma-ray spectral analysis. Only gamma emitters in the238U and232Th series and40K were detected. No fission product was detected with specific activity above 0.1 Bq/kg. The present data could be the baseline for future monitoring of the radioactivity released from a nuclear plant being built at a 50-km distance from Hong Kong. The variation of detected specific activities may be due to geological differences and the effect of plants.  相似文献

Radiometric measurements were carried out for the beach sands from East Rosetta estuary to determine the activity concentrations of 238 U, 226 Ra, 232 Th, and 40 K, using a Hyper Pure Germanium spectrometer, to estimate the dose rates and radiation hazard indices. The average specific activities are 778.20 Bq/kg for 238 U; 646.89 Bq/kg for 226 Ra; 621.92 and 627.85 Bq/kg for the 222 Rn daughters 214 Pb and 214 Bi respectively. The average specific activity of 232 Th is 1510.25 Bq/kg, while the calculated specific activity for 40 K has an average of 8.41 Bq/kg. The average specific activity of 235 U is 38.61 Bq/kg. The average absorbed dose rate is 1211.36 nGy/h, 20 times higher than the estimated average global primordial radiation of 60 nGy/h and 6 times higher than that of the world range (10-200 nGy/h). The radium equivalent (Ra eq ) values are from 6 to 9 times the recommended value. The internal and external hazard indices (H int , H ex ) indicate that their values are from 6 to 11 times the permissible values of these indices. These higher values may be due to the presence of economic heavy minerals containing radionuclides as zircon and monazite as well as some trace minerals, thorite and uranothorite. The mineralogical study indicates the beach sands contain heavy minerals, zircon, monazite, rutile, ilmenite, leucoxene, magnetite and garnet. The average abundance of zircon is 0.175 wt% ranging from 0.125 wt% to 0.239 wt%, while it is 0.004wt% ranging from 0.001 wt% to 0.007 wt% for monazite. The average abundance is 0.087 wt% for rutile; 2.029 wt% for ilmenite; 1.084 wt% for magnetite; 0.384 wt% for leucoxene and 0.295 wt% for garnet.  相似文献

The activities of the most common, naturally occurring radionuclides 238U, 226Ra, 210Pb, 228Ra, 228Th, and 40K were measured by gamma-ray spectrometry in samples from reservoir rocks, geothermal fluids, and mineral precipitates at the geothermal research site Groß Schönebeck (North German Basin). Results demonstrated that the specific activity of the reservoir rock is within the range of the mean concentration in the upper earth crust of <800 Bq/kg for 40K and <60 Bq/kg for radionuclides of the 238U and 232Th series, respectively. The geothermal fluid showed elevated activity concentrations (up to 100 Bq/l) for 226Ra, 210Pb, and 228Ra, as compared to concentrations found in natural groundwater. Their concentration in filter residues even increased up to 100 Bq/g. These residues contain predominantly two different mineral phases: a Sr-rich barite (Sr, BaSO4) and laurionite (PbOHCl), which both precipitate upon cooling from the geothermal fluid. Thereby they presumably enrich the radionuclides of Ra (by substitution of Ba) and Pb. Analysis of these precipitates further showed an increased 226Ra/228Ra ratio from around 1–1.7 during the initial months of fluid production indicating a change in fluid composition over time which can be explained by different contributions of stimulated reservoir rock areas to the overall produced fluid.  相似文献

Ice sheets and deep ice cores have yielded a wealth of paleoclimate information based on continuous dating methods while independent radiometric ages of ice have remained elusive. Here we demonstrate the application of (234U/238U) measurements to dating the EPICA Dome C ice core based on the accumulation of 234U in the ice matrix from recoil during 238U decay out of dust bound within the ice. Measured (234U/238U) activity ratios within the ice generally increase with depth while the surface areas of the dust grains are relatively constant. Using a newly designed device for measuring surface area for small samples, we were able to estimate reliably the recoil efficiency of nuclides from dust to ice. The resulting calculated radiometric ages range between 80 ka and 870 ka. Measured samples in the upper 3100 m fall on the previously published age-depth profile. Samples in the 3200–3255 m section show a marked change from 723–870 ka to 85 ka indicating homogenization of the deep ice prior to resetting of the (234U/238U) age in the basal layers. The mechanism for homogenization is likely enhanced lateral ice flow due to high basal melting and geothermal heat flux.  相似文献

Perovskite, a common Th- and U-enriched accessory mineral crystallised from kimberlitic magmas, has long been thought to be an important geochronometer for dating the emplacement of kimberlite. However, it also contains variably high levels of common Pb, which makes it difficult to obtain a precise measurement of radiogenic Pb/U and Pb/Th isotopic compositions using microbeam techniques such as SIMS and LA-ICP-MS. We present calibration protocols for in situ U–Pb and Th–Pb age determination of kimberlitic perovskite using the large double-focusing Cameca IMS 1280. Linear relationships are found between ln(206Pb?+/U+) and ln(UO2+/U+), and between ln(208Pb?+/Th+) and ln(ThO+/Th+), based on which the inter-element fractionation in unknown samples during SIMS analyses can be precisely calibrated against a perovskite standard. The well-characterized Ice River perovskite is chosen as the U–Pb and Th–Pb age standard in this study. The 204Pb-correction method was used to estimate the fraction of common Pb, which is consistent with the results obtained using the 207Pb-based correction method for the dated perovskites of Phanerozoic age.A Tazheran perovskite with unusually high U but rather low Th yielded a Concordia U–Pb age of 462.8 ± 2.5 Ma and a Th–Pb age of 462 ± 4 Ma. Two perovskite samples from the Iron Mountain kimberlite have identical Concordia U–Pb ages of 410.8 ± 3.4 Ma and 411.0 ± 2.6 Ma, which are consistent within errors with their corresponding Th–Pb ages of 409.2 ± 7.2 Ma and 412.3 ± 3.3 Ma, respectively. Two perovskite samples from the Wesselton Mine of South Africa yielded indistinguishable 206Pb/238U ages of 91.5 ± 2.2 Ma and 90.3 ± 2.9 Ma, and Th–Pb ages of 90.5 ± 0.8 Ma and 88.4 ± 1.6 Ma, respectively. Accuracy and precision of 1–2% (95% confidence level) for these measurements have been demonstrated by the consistency of their U–Pb and Th–Pb ages with the recommended U–Pb ages of previous works.  相似文献

Apatite is a common U- and Th-bearing accessory mineral in igneous and metamorphic rocks, and a minor but widespread detrital component in clastic sedimentary rocks. U–Pb and Th–Pb dating of apatite has potential application in sedimentary provenance studies, as it likely represents first cycle detritus compared to the polycyclic behavior of zircon. However, low U, Th and radiogenic Pb concentrations, elevated common Pb and the lack of a U–Th–Pb apatite standard remain significant challenges in dating apatite by LA-ICPMS, and consequently in developing the chronometer as a provenance tool. This study has determined U–Pb and Th–Pb ages for seven well known apatite occurrences (Durango, Emerald Lake, Kovdor, Mineville, Mud Tank, Otter Lake and Slyudyanka) by LA-ICPMS. Analytical procedures involved rastering a 10 μm spot over a 40 × 40 μm square to a depth of 10 μm using a Geolas 193 nm ArF excimer laser coupled to a Thermo ElementXR single-collector ICPMS. These raster conditions minimized laser-induced inter-element fractionation, which was corrected for using the back-calculated intercept of the time-resolved signal. A Tl–U–Bi–Np tracer solution was aspirated with the sample into the plasma to correct for instrument mass bias. External standards (Ple?ovice and 91500 zircon, NIST SRM 610 and 612 silicate glasses and STDP5 phosphate glass) along with Kovdor apatite were analyzed to monitor U–Pb, Th–Pb, U–Th and Pb–Pb ratiosCommon Pb correction employed the 207Pb method, and also a 208Pb correction method for samples with low Th/U. The 207Pb and 208Pb corrections employed either the initial Pb isotopic composition or the Stacey and Kramers model and propagated conservative uncertainties in the initial Pb isotopic composition. Common Pb correction using the Stacey and Kramers (1975) model employed an initial Pb isotopic composition calculated from either the estimated U–Pb age of the sample or an iterative approach. The age difference between these two methods is typically less than 2%, suggesting that the iterative approach works well for samples where there are no constraints on the initial Pb composition, such as a detrital sample. No 204Pb correction was undertaken because of low 204Pb counts on single collector instruments and 204Pb interference by 204Hg in the argon gas supply.Age calculations employed between 11 and 33 analyses per sample and used a weighted average of the common Pb-corrected ages, a Tera–Wasserburg Concordia intercept age and a Tera–Wasserburg Concordia intercept age anchored through common Pb. The samples in general yield ages consistent (at the 2σ level) with independent estimates of the U–Pb apatite age, which demonstrates the suitability of the analytical protocol employed. Weighted mean age uncertainties are as low as 1–2% for U- and/or Th-rich Palaeozoic–Neoproterozoic samples; the uncertainty on the youngest sample, the Cenozoic (31.44 Ma) Durango apatite, ranges from 3.7–7.6% according to the common Pb correction method employed. The accurate and relatively precise common Pb-corrected ages demonstrate the U–Pb and Th–Pb apatite chronometers are suitable as sedimentary provenance tools. The Kovdor carbonatite apatite is recommended as a potential U–Pb and Th–Pb apatite standard as it yields precise and reproducible 207Pb-corrected, 232Th–208Pb, and common Pb-anchored Tera–Wasserburg Concordia intercept ages.  相似文献

The state of Azad Kashmir is rich in three types of rocks, namely, sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks. These rocks contain extensive deposits of graphite, marble, limestone, quartzite, granite, dolerite, and sandstone, which are widely used for the construction of dwellings in Azad Kashmir and Pakistan. Therefore, knowledge about the presence of natural radioactivity in these materials is desirable to assess the radiological hazards associated with it. In this context, 30 rock samples were collected from different geologic formations of the Muzaffarabad Division, Azad Kashmir. After processing the samples, the specific activities of 226Ra, 232Th, and 40 K in them were measured using a P-type coaxial high-purity germanium detector. The observed highest dose rate values for sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks have been found to be 83.16 ± 1.08, 135.87 ± 1.18, and 115.98 ± 1 nGy ⋅ h–1, respectively. The radium equivalent activity (Raeq) varied from 23.76 ± 1.15 for dolerite sample (igneous rock) to 293.69 ± 2.60 Bq ⋅ kg–1 for marble (metamorphic rock). The Raeq values of all rock samples are lower than the limit mentioned in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD, 1979) report (370 Bq ⋅ kg–1, equivalent to γ-dose of 1.5 mSv ⋅ y–1). The values of external (Hex) and internal hazard indices (Hin) are less than unity. The mean outdoor and indoor annual effective dose equivalents are 0.073 mSv ⋅ y–1 and 0.29 mSv ⋅ y–1, respectively. The mean (over all types of rock samples) annual effective dose equivalent is reported as 0.36 mSv ⋅ y–1.  相似文献

Activities of the naturally occurring radionuclide 234Th were determined in water samples of Mecklenburg Bay (SW Baltic Sea) using a new Th-specific diatomite adsorption technique followed by liquid scintillation spectrometry. Activities of “dissolved” (operationally defined as Th in the centrifugate) and particulate 234Th varied in the range of 1.4–6.9 and 0.9–9.3 mBq l−1, respectively. A significant correlation between Kd and SPM concentration was found. From this particle-concentration effect, the “colloidal pumping” model predicts that 98% of the “dissolved” Th is associated with colloids rather than being truly dissolved. Relative to calculated activities of the parent nuclide 238U in the Bay, the 234Th data yielded mean 234Th scavenging residence times in the range of 1.2–9.7 days. Particulate 234Th activities are inversely correlated to SPM concentrations. Particle residence times ranged from a few days in winter up to 20 days in spring characterized by less intense bottom currents. The hydrodynamic regime is the master variable controlling scavenging of Th and other similarly particle-reactive elements in Mecklenburg Bay.  相似文献

The main limiting factor in obtaining precise and accurate uranium-series (U-series) ages of corals that lived during the last few hundred years is the ability to constrain and correct for initial thorium-230 (230Th0), which is proportionally much higher in younger samples. This is becoming particularly important in palaeoecological research where accurate chronologies, based on the 230Th chronometer, are required to pinpoint changes in coral community structure and the timing of mortality events in recent time (e.g. since European settlement of northern Australia in the 1850s). In this study, thermal ionisation mass spectrometry (TIMS) U-series dating of 43 samples of known ages collected from living Porites spp. from the far northern, central and southern inshore regions of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) was performed to spatially constrain initial 230Th/232Th (230Th/232Th0) variability. In these living Porites corals, the majority of 230Th/232Th0 values fell within error of the conservative bulk Earth 230Th/232Th atomic value of 4.3 ± 4.3 × 10?6 (2σ) generally assumed for 230Th0 corrections where the primary source is terrestrially derived. However, the results of this study demonstrate that the accuracy of 230Th ages can be further improved by using locally determined 230Th/232Th0 values for correction, supporting the conclusion made by Shen et al. (2008) for the Western Pacific. Despite samples being taken from regions adjacent to contrasting levels of land modification, no significant differences were found in 230Th/232Th0 between regions exposed to varying levels of sediment during river runoff events. Overall, 39 of the total 43 230Th/232Th0 atomic values measured in samples from inshore reefs across the entire region show a normal distribution ranging from 3.5 ± 1.1 to 8.1 ± 1.1 × 10?6, with a weighted mean of 5.76 ± 0.34 × 10?6 (2σ, MSWD = 8.1). Considering the scatter of the data, the weighted mean value with a more conservative assigned error of 25% (i.e. 5.8 ± 1.4 × 10?6) that encompasses the full variation of the 39 230Th/232Th0 measurements is recommended as a more appropriate value for initial 230Th corrections for U-series dating of most Porites samples from inshore regions of the GBR. This will result in significant improvement in both the precision and accuracy of the corrected 230Th ages related to those based on the assumed bulk Earth 230Th/232Th0 value of 4.3 ± 4.3 × 10?6. However, several anomalously high 230Th/232Th0 values reaching up to 28.0 ± 1.6 × 10?6 occasionally found in some coral annual bands coinciding with El Niño years imply high 230Th/232Th0 sources and highlight the complexities of understanding 230Th/232Th0 variability. For U-series dating of young coral samples from such sites where anomalous 230Th/232Th0 values occur, we suggest replicate dating of multiple growth bands with known age difference to verify age accuracy.  相似文献

The Hahaigang W–Mo polymetallic skarn deposit is located in the central-eastern part of Gangdese tectono-magmatic belt in Lhasa terrane, Tibet. The deposit was discovered in 2007 with currently proven 46 million tons of WO3 ores, 12 million tons of Mo ores, and 1.31 million tons of combined Cu–Pb–Zn ores, at an average grade of 0.20% WO3, 0.07% Mo, 0.026% Cu, 0.49% Pb, and 3.1% Zn. Ore bodies occur in veins or disseminations, and are confined within the NE-striking Dalong fault zone which is hosted by the Lower-Permian Pangna Group of dominantly quartz sandstone and slate. Several granitic plutons are exposed in the area or known from drill-holes. Ages of these granitic plutons are determined by using zircon U–Pb LA–ICP–MS method. For example, the biotite monzogranite yields a 206Pb/238U–207Pb/238U concordia age of 58.66 ± 0.90 Ma and a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 57.02 ± 0.42 Ma. The granite porphyry yields a 206Pb/238U–207Pb/238U concordia age of 109.1 ± 8.9 Ma and a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 114.0 ± 2.6 Ma. The biotite monzogranite yields a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 56.1 ± 1.1 Ma. Re–Os isochron age of 63.2 ± 3.2 Ma from 5 molybdenite samples collected from the W–Mo skarn ores is also obtained in this study. The zircon U–Pb and molybdenite Re–Os geochronological data suggest that the W–Mo mineralization was not temporally associated with any of the dated igneous plutons. However, the molybdenite Re–Os age of 63.2 ± 3.2 Ma indicates that the W–Mo mineralization might have occurred during the main India–Eurasia collision that was initiated around 65 Ma. Microprobe analysis of ilvaite that occurs in two generations in the W–Mo skarn ores reveals a close relationship to Ca–Fe–F-rich hydrothermal fluids, which were probably derived from deeply-seated magmas. We suggest that ascent of the fluids was strictly controlled by the ore-controlling Dalong fault zone, and that chemical interaction and metasomatism between the fluids and the Lower-Permian Pangna quartz-feldspathic host rocks produced the ilvaite and the W–Mo polymetallic skarn deposit during the main India–Eurasia collision. Although the majority of the polymetallic deposits in the Gangdese belt are reported to be either pre- or post-main collision, it is evident from this study that the main collision also produced W–Mo polymetallic mineralization within the belt.  相似文献

U–Pb ages, trace elements, and Hf isotope compositions of zircons from the Mayuan migmatite complex in NW Fujian province have been determined to provide constraints on the source and genesis of anatexis and tectonothermal evolution related to the Caledonian orogeny in South China. The migmatites investigated consist of various amounts of mesosome, leucosome, and melansome. Zircons extracted from mesosome, leucosome, and granite samples are characterized by oscillatory overgrowths enclosing inherited cores or occur as newly grown grains. The ages of the inherited zircons from the leucosome and granite samples are consistent with those of adjacent basement paragneiss in the study area, suggesting that both leucosome and granite were generated by partial melting of the latter. A comparison of Hf isotopes between the newly-formed zircons and inherited cores indicates that the former resulted from the breakdown of preexisting inherited zircons and/or less Hf-rich minerals other than zircons at the source. One mesosome sample contains typical metamorphic zircons that yielded a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 453 ± 3 Ma. They show enrichments in heavy REEs (LuN/LaN up to 22,709), indicating their growth prior to garnet crystallization. The other mesosome sample, in contrast, contains both newly-formed metamorphic rims and grains that gave a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 442 ± 8 Ma. They are characterized by relatively low Th/U ratios, depletions in heavy REEs (LuN/LaN = 117–396), and low 176Lu/177Hf ratios, suggesting their growth synchronous with garnet crystallization. The U–Pb ages of the mesosome samples are interpreted as recording the time of early (ca. 453 Ma) to peak (442 Ma) stages of a regional metamorphic event. Two leucosome and two granite samples yield consistent U–Pb ages of 438 ± 5 Ma to 442 ± 4 Ma, which provide constraints on the timing of subsequent anatexis and magmatism. The geochronological data reported here reveal a consecutive sequence of regional metamorphism, anatexis, and magmatism in NW Fujian province, lasting for at least 15 Myr, which was driven by the Caledonian orogeny that have affected a major part of the SCB.  相似文献

The present study reports new zircon LA–ICP–MS U–Pb ages, trace element and Hf isotope data, and whole-rock major and trace element data from Cambrian metarhyolites from Zhaqian and Zhakang in the central Lhasa subterrane of southern Tibet. One sample from Zhakang provides a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 510.4 ± 4.0 Ma and two samples from Zhaqian yield weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of 510.6 ± 2.6 Ma and 524.8 ± 2.9 Ma, indicating that the Zhaqian and Zhakang metarhyolites were contemporaneous. Both are characterized by high SiO2 and K2O and low Na2O. They are also primarily high-K calc-alkaline, are enriched in Th, U, and light rare earth elements (LREEs), and are depleted in Nb, Ta, Ti, and P. Thus, they are geochemically similar to typical arc volcanic rocks. Moreover, the Zhaqian metarhyolites exhibit varying zircon εHf(t) values (−3.8 to +0.3) that are comparable to those of the Zhakang metarhyolites (−4.9 to −1.0). Both metarhyolites are interpreted as resulting from partial melting of Proterozoic metasedimentary rocks with mantle-derived magma contributions. Contemporaneous magmatism in the early Paleozoic has also been recognized in other microcontinents along the Gondwana proto-Tethyan margin. The emplacement of these magmatic rocks and the development of a Cambro–Ordovician angular unconformity in the central Lhasa subterrane can be attributed to subduction of proto-Tethys Ocean lithosphere in a Andean-type magmatic arc setting following the assembly of various continental components within the Gondwana supercontinent.  相似文献

The Ogcheon metamorphic belt consists primarily of metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks that have experienced polyphase tectonometamorphism since the Neoproterozoic. Peak metamorphism reaching up to lower-amphibolite facies produced ubiquitous garnet porphyroblasts in pelitic and mafic schists. To determine the timing of their formation, step-leaching experiments were undertaken for five garnet fractions separated from pelitic and quartz-hornblende-garnet schists. The U–Pb ages from three samples are identical within 2σ errors, ranging from 291 ± 41 Ma to 276 ± 29 Ma. The quasi-linearity of leachates in 238U–206Pb and 208Pb–206Pb diagrams suggests that U and Pb are released from a single mineral phase and that minor chemical fractionation between U and Pb may have occurred during the leaching experiment. Deviations of residues and bulk garnet fractions from the linear trend are attributed to partial dissolution of refractory inclusions of detrital zircon. Th/U ratios of leachates are in the range of 3.4–12, much higher than those of pure garnet, and suggest the contribution of allanite. Negative relationships in the Sm–Nd isochron diagram and similar 147Sm/144Nd ratios between whole rock and garnet corroborate the influence of light rare earth element (LREE)-rich allanite on the Sm–Nd isotopic system. Simple mass-balance calculations indicate that only a trace amount (0.35 modal%) of allanite inclusions should govern the U–Th–Pb systematics of garnet. Petrographic evidence together with the consistency in U–Pb ages suggests that allanite is a product of prograde metamorphism. Thus, peak metamorphism responsible for the growth of allanite-bearing garnet porphyroblasts in the Ogcheon metamorphic belt is best estimated to be Early Permian.  相似文献

It is important to know the distribution and transfer of radionuclides such as uranium, thorium, and potassium, which exist naturally in the environment we live in. For this reason, measurements of these natural radionuclides have been carried out for 15 gravel samples collected from Konyaalt? Beach, Antalya. In order to measure the natural activity concentrations of potassium-40, uranium-238, and thorium-232 radionuclides, we performed the measurements by applying a gamma spectrometry method with a “3?×?3” NaI(Tl) detector, which is a multichannel analytical detector in the Suleyman Demirel University gamma spectrometry laboratory. The minimum, maximum, and mean values for the 226Ra activity concentration were measured as 19.74 Bq/kg, 37.03 Bq/kg, and 31.64 Bq/kg, respectively. The minimum, maximum, and mean values for the 232Th activity concentration were measured as 12.76 Bq/kg, 34.32 Bq/kg, and 26.67 Bq/kg, respectively. The minimum, maximum, and mean values for the 40K activity concentration were measured as 196.37 Bq/kg, 421.13 Bq/kg, and 350.42 Bq/kg, respectively. Dose parameters and radiation damage indices were calculated using experimentally measured activity results and the resulting dose and hazard index values were compared with the determined limit values. It can be concluded that no risk may threat in terms of the hazard index values. In addition, all results obtained in terms of calculated dose values except for annual gonadal dose are below the recommended limit values.  相似文献
