Abstract   Serpentinite bodies in the Kurosegawa Belt are mapped along fault boundaries between the Cretaceous Sanchu Group (forearc basin-fill sediments) and the rocks of the Southern Chichibu Belt (Jurassic to Early Cretaceous accretionary prism) in the northwestern Kanto Mountains, central Japan. The serpentinites were divided into three types based on microtextures and combinations of serpentine minerals: massive, antigorite and chrysotile serpentinites. Massive serpentinite retains initial pseudomorphic textures without any deformation after serpentinization. Antigorite serpentinite exhibits shape-preferred orientation of antigorite replacing the original lizardite and/or chrysotile to form pseudomorphs. It has porphyroclasts of chromian spinel, and is characterized by ductile deformation under relatively high-pressure–temperature conditions. Chrysotile serpentinite shows evidence for overprinting of pre-existing serpentinite features under shallow, low-temperature conditions. It exhibits unidirectional development of chrysotile fibers. Foliations in antigorite and chrysotile serpentinites strike parallel to the elongate direction of the serpentinite bodies, suggesting a continuous deformation during solid-state intrusion along the fault zones after undergoing complete serpentinization at deeper levels (lower crust and upper mantle).  相似文献

In this paper, we report friction experiments performed on natural fault gouge samples embedded in granitic rock from drilled core by a project entitled "the Longmenshan Fault Shallow Drilling(LMFD)". Compared with other natural fault gouge, this yellow-greenish gouge(YGG)is dominantly chlorite-rich. The maximum content of chlorite reaches 47%in the YGG. To understand the frictional properties of the YGG sample, experiments were performed at constant confining pressure of 130MPa, with constant pore pressure of 50MPa and at different temperatures from 25℃ to 150℃. The experiments aim to address the frictional behavior of the YGG under shallow, upper crustal pressure, and temperature conditions. Compared with previous studies of natural gouge, our results show that the YGG is stronger and shows a steady state friction coefficient of 0.47~0.51. Comparison with previous studies of natural gouge with similar content of clay minerals indicates a sequence of strengths of different clay minerals:chlorite > illite > smectite. At temperatures up to 150℃ hence depths up to~8km in the Longmenshan region, the YGG shows stable velocity-strengthening behavior at shallow crustal conditions. Combined with the fact of strong direct velocity effect, i.e., (a-b)/a>0.5, faults cutting the present clastic lithology up to~8km depth in the Longmenshan fault zone(LFZ)are likely to offer stable sliding resistance, damping co-seismic rupture propagating from below at not-too-high slip rates. However, as the fault gouge generally has low permeability, co-seismic weakening through thermal pressurization may occur at high slip rates(>0.05m/s), leading to additional hazards.  相似文献

摩擦滑动的力学行为能够很好地由速率和状态依赖性摩擦本构关系来描述。文中对地壳岩石滑动稳定性的控制因素进行了综述:1)微小扰动对摩擦滑动的影响分析(线性分析)表明,摩擦滑动中不稳定产生的重要条件是速率依赖性参数a-b<0,在这种条件下,地震滑动可以在断层上成核;2)下地壳的水含量测定表明,可能存在“干”、“湿”两种情况,而已有岩石流变实验结果表明稳定大陆内部下地壳在干燥条件下为脆性变形行为;3)近年来发现一部分强震发生在基性的下地壳,使辉长岩高温高压摩擦实验受到重视。干燥条件下辉长岩的摩擦实验研究表明,在420~615℃的温度范围内,速度弱化可能是典型的滑动行为。综合考虑较冷大陆内部下地壳可能出现的“干燥”条件以及在此条件下不大可能发生塑性流动等相关因素,这一结果可能就是在一些地区下地壳发生地震的原因  相似文献

岩石流变参数和变形机制是根据断层摩擦和岩石幂次流动本构关系建立岩石圈强度剖面的基础。近 30年来 ,高温高压实验取得了很大进展 ,获得了大量地壳矿物和岩石流变资料。本文系统总结了这些流变实验资料 ,并应用流变数据结合地震震源深度分布 ,对华北地壳流变性质进行了研究。结果表明 ,以花岗岩和低级变质岩为代表的上地壳为脆性破裂 ,其强度受断层摩擦约束 ,以长英质片麻岩为主的中地壳和以中性麻粒岩为主的下地壳上层处于塑性流变状态 ,由干的基性麻粒岩组成的下地壳下层处于脆性向塑性流变的过渡状态。华北地壳的这种物质组成和流变为地壳不同层次的解耦和强震孕育提供了力学条件 ,也构成了不同尺度块体的底边界  相似文献

利用双轴伺服控制加载装置, 在干燥和饱和水(浸在水中)条件下, 开展了砂岩、 大理岩和花岗岩的摩擦实验。 对比干湿条件下断层摩擦应力和声发射的演化特征, 讨论水对断层滑动性状的影响。 研究表明, 低正应力条件下, 砂岩和大理岩标本表现为稳滑, 而花岗岩则表现为粘滑; 岩体矿物成分、 孔隙率和以及滑动面的状况共同影响断层摩擦的稳定性; 干湿条件下摩擦强度的变化为水对断层滑动面和围岩抗剪强度影响的综合效应; 砂岩含有硬度较小的矿物, 初始粘结力低, 孔隙率高, 水对滑动面和围岩都起到弱化的作用; 方解石硬度和摩擦特性控制了大理岩的摩擦性状, 而标本含有穿晶和晶内微破裂增强了水对大理岩摩擦强度的弱化作用; 花岗岩组成矿物的硬度大且胶结紧密, 初始粘结力大, 孔隙率低, 因此摩擦性状对含水量的变化响应较小。 不同岩性的摩擦稳定性在干湿条件下均存在差异, 不同岩性断层摩擦性状对含水量的变化响应不同, 因此研究水库诱发地震时要考虑断层的岩性特征。  相似文献

We use preseismic, coseismic, and postseismic GPS data of the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake to infer spatio-temporal variation of fault slip and frictional behavior on the Chelungpu fault. The geodetic data shows that coseismic slip during the Chi-Chi earthquake occurred within a patch that was locked in the period preceding the earthquake, and that afterslip occurred dominantly downdip from the ruptured area. To first-order, the observed pattern and the temporal evolution of afterslip is consistent with models of the seismic cycle based on rate-and-state friction. Comparison with the distribution of temperature on the fault derived from thermo-kinematic modeling shows that aseismic slip becomes dominant where temperature is estimated to exceed 200° at depth. This inference is consistent with the temperature induced transition from velocity-weakening to velocity-strengthening friction that is observed in laboratory experiments on quartzo-feldspathic rocks. The time evolution of afterslip is consistent with afterslip being governed by velocity-strengthening frictional sliding. The dependency of friction, μ, on the sliding velocity, V, is estimated to be ${{\partial \mu }/{\partial \, {\rm ln}\, V}} = 8 \times 10^{ - 3}$ . We report an azimuthal difference of about 10–20° between preseismic and postseismic GPS velocities, which we interpret to reflect the very low shear stress on the creeping portion of the décollement beneath the Central Range, of the order of 1–3 MPa, implying a very low friction of about 0.01. This study highlights the importance of temperature and pore pressure in determining fault frictional sliding.  相似文献

We present an inventory of B, Cl and Li concentrations in (a) key minerals from a set of ultramafic samples featuring the main evolutionary stages encountered by the subducted oceanic mantle, and in (b) fluid inclusions produced during high-pressure breakdown of antigorite serpentinite. Samples correspond to (i) nonsubducted serpentinites (Northern Apennine and Alpine ophiolites), (ii) high-pressure olivine-bearing antigorite serpentinites (Western Alps and Betic Cordillera), (iii) high-pressure olivine-orthopyroxene rocks recording the subduction breakdown of antigorite serpentinites (Betic Cordillera). Two main dehydration episodes are recorded by the sample suite: partial serpentinite dewatering during formation of metamorphic olivine, followed by full breakdown of antigorite serpentine to olivine+orthopyroxene+fluid. Ion probe and laser ablation ICP-MS (LA ICP-MS) analyses of Cl, B and Li in the rock-forming minerals indicate that the hydrous mantle is an important carrier of light elements. The estimated bulk-rock B and Cl concentrations progressively decrease from oceanic serpentinites (46.7 ppm B and 729 ppm Cl) to antigorite serpentinites (20 ppm B and 221 ppm Cl) to olivine-orthopyroxene rocks (9.4 ppm B and 45 ppm Cl). This suggests release of oceanic Cl and B in subduction fluids, apparently without inputs from external sources. Lithium is less abundant in oceanic serpentinites (1.3 ppm) and the initial concentrations are still preserved in high-pressure antigorite serpentinites. Higher Li contents in olivine, Ti-clinohumite of the olivine-orthopyroxene rocks (4.9 ppm bulk rock Li), as well as in the coexisting fluid inclusions, suggest that their budget may not be uniquely related to recycling of oceanic Li, but may require input from external sources.Laser ablation ICP-MS analyses of fluid inclusions in the olivine-orthopyroxene rocks enabled an estimate of the Li and B concentrations in the antigorite breakdown fluid. The inclusion compositions were quantified using a range of salinity values (0.4-2 wt.% NaClequiv) as internal standards, yielding maximum average fluid/rockDB∼5 and fluid/rockDLi∼3.5. We also performed model calculations to estimate the B and Cl loss during the two dehydration episodes of serpentinite subduction. The first event is characterized by high fluid/rock partition coefficients for Cl (∼100) and B (∼60) and by formation of a fluid with salinity of 4-8 wt.% NaClequiv. The antigorite breakdown produces less saline fluids (0.4-2 wt.% NaClequiv) and is characterized by lower partition coefficients for Cl (25-60) and B (12-30). Our calculations indicate that the salinity of the subduction fluids decreases with increasing depths. fluid/rockDB/fluid/rockDCl<1 (∼0.5) indicates that Cl preferentially partitions into the evolved fluids relative to B and that the B/Cl of fluids progressively increases with increasing depths and temperatures.Despite light element release in fluids, appreciable B, Cl and Li are still retained in chlorite, olivine and Ti-clinohumite beyond the antigorite stability field. This permits a bulk storage of about 10 ppm B, 45 ppm Cl and 5 ppm Li, i.e., concentrations much higher than in mantle reservoirs. Chlorite is the Cl repository and its stability controls the Cl and H2O budget beyond the antigorite stability; B and Li are bound in olivine and clinohumite. The subducted oceanic mantle thus retains light elements beyond the depths of arc magma sources, potentially introducing anomalies in the upper mantle.  相似文献

We investigate the evolution of wear and friction along experimental faults composed of solid rock blocks. This evolution is analyzed through shear experiments along five rock types, and the experiments were conducted in a rotary apparatus at slip velocities of 0.002–0.97 m/s, slip distances from a few millimeters to tens of meters, and normal stress of 0.25–6.9 MPa. The wear and friction measurements and fault surface observations revealed three evolution phases: A) An initial stage (slip distances <50 mm) of wear by failure of isolated asperities associated with roughening of the fault surface; B) a running-in stage of slip distances of 1–3 m with intense wear-rate, failure of many asperities, and simultaneous reduction of the friction coefficient and wear-rate; and C) a steady-state stage that initiates when the fault surface is covered by a gouge layer, and during which both wear-rate and friction coefficient maintain quasi-constant, low levels. While these evolution stages are clearly recognizable for experimental faults made from bare rock blocks, our analysis suggests that natural faults “bypass” the first two stages and slip at gouge-controlled steady-state conditions.  相似文献

-- Sandwich friction experiments are one of the most widely used standard methods for measuring the frictional behavior between rocks. A finite element code for modeling the nonlinear friction contact between elastoplastic bodies has been developed and extended to analyze the sandwich friction experiment model with a rate- and state-dependent friction law. The influences of prescribed slip velocity and variation of movement direction and state on the friction coefficient, the relative slip velocity, the normal contact force, the frictional force, the critical frictional force and the transition of stick-slip state between the deformable rocks are thoroughly investigated, respectively. The calculated results demonstrate the usefulness of this code for simulating the friction behavior between rocks.  相似文献

We determined the mineralogical and petrological characteristics of ultramafic rocks dredged from two oceanic core complexes: the Mado Megamullion and 23°30′N non-transform offset massif, which are located within the Shikoku back-arc basin in the Philippine Sea. The ultramafic rocks are strongly serpentinized, but can be classified as harzburgite/lherzolite or dunite, based on relict primary minerals and their pseudomorphs. Strongly elongated pyroxene porphyroclasts with undulatory extinction indicate high-temperature (≥700 °C) strain localization on a detachment fault within the upper mantle at depths below the brittle–viscous transition. During exhumation, the peridotites underwent impregnation by magmatic or hydrothermal fluids, lizardite/chrysotile serpentinization at ≤300 °C, antigorite crystallization, and silica metasomatism that formed talc. These features indicate that the detachment fault zones formed a fluid pathway and facilitated a range of fluid–peridotite interactions.  相似文献

The aim of our work is to estimate the electromagnetic effects that can be detected in the submarine zones with hydrothermal activity. It is known that meso-scale flows appear in the regions over underwater volcanoes or hot rocks. Their origin is connected with heat flux and hot jets released from underwater volcanoes or faults in a sea bottom. Values of mean velocities and turbulent velocities in plumes were estimated. Quasiconstant magnetic fields induced by a hot jet and a vortex over a plume top are about 1–40 nT. Variable magnetic fields are about 0.1–1 nT. These magnetic disturbances in the sea medium create an additional natural electromagnetic background that must be considered when making detailed magnetic surveys.  相似文献

在实验室中研究了蛇纹岩和角闪岩样品在不同温压条件下的纵、横波速度和Q值.这两种岩样对应的主要组成矿物叶蛇纹石和普通角闪石都具有很强的晶格优选方位(LPO).随着围压的增加,波速和Q值均增大,但是在相互正交的三个方向上(垂直或平行于层理面及线理方向)增大的速度并不相同,这与微裂隙的逐渐闭合密切相关.在600MPa的围压下升高温度直到600℃以上,由于微裂隙的热扩张受到约束,波速和Q值下降幅度很小.观测到的波速和Q值的各向异性具有不同的机理,波速各向异性主要与定向分布的微裂隙和主要矿物的LPO等构造因素有关;高围压下纵波Q值各向异性与速度各向异性正好相反,可能是由于形成层理面的定向排列的平板状矿物晶体沿不同方向边界之间接触程度不同造成的.  相似文献

Changes in oceanic O–Sr isotopic compositions and global cooling beginning in the Eocene are considered to have been caused by the uplift of the Tibetan Plateau. The specific timing and uplift mechanism, however, have long been subjects of debate. We investigated the Duogecuoren lavas of the central-western Qiangtang Block, which form the largest outcrops among Cenozoic lavas in northern-central Tibet and have widely been considered as shoshonitic. Our study demonstrates, however, that most of these lavas are high-K calc-alkaline andesites, dacites and rhyolites. Moreover, they are characterized by high Sr (367–2472 ppm) and Al2O3 (14.55–16.86 wt.%) and low Y (3.05–16.9 ppm) and Yb (0.31–1.48 ppm) contents and high La/Yb (27–100) and Sr/Y (48–240) ratios, similar to adakitic rocks derived by partial melting of an eclogitic source. They can be further classified as either peraluminous and metaluminous subtypes. The peraluminous rocks have relatively high SiO2 (> 66 wt.%) contents, and low MgO (< 1.0 wt.%), Cr (4.94–23.3 ppm) and Ni (2.33–17.0 ppm) contents and Mg# (20–50) values, while the metaluminous rocks exhibit relatively low SiO2 (55–69 wt.%) contents, and high MgO (1.41–6.34), Cr (25.7–383 ppm), Ni (14.13–183 ppm) and Mg# (46–69) values, similar to magnesian andesites. 40Ar/39Ar and SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating reveal that both peraluminous and metaluminous adakitic rocks erupted in the Eocene (46–38 Ma). Paleocene–Early Miocene thrust faults and associated syn-contractional basin deposits in the Qiangtang Block suggest that this region was undergoing crustal shortening within a continent during the Eocene. The low εNd (− 2.81 to − 6.91) and high 87Sr/86Sr (0.7057–0.7097), Th (11.2–32.3 ppm) and Th/La (0.23–0.88) values in the Duogecuoren adakitic rocks further indicate that they were not derived by partial melting of subducted oceanic crust. Taking into account tectonic and geophysical data and the compositions of xenoliths in Cenozoic lava in northern-central Tibet, we suggest that the peraluminous adakitic rocks were most probably derived by partial melting of subducted sediment-dominated continent of the Songpan-Ganzi Block along the Jinsha suture to the north at a relatively shallow position (the hornblende + garnet stability field), but the metaluminous adakitic rocks likely originated from the interaction between peraluminous adakitic melts generated at greater depths (the garnet + rutile stability field) and mantle. Because the Duogecuoren adakitic rocks must have originated from a garnet-bearing (namely, eclogite facies) source, Eocene continental subduction along the Jinsha suture caused the thickening of the Qiangtang crust. Given that crustal thickening generally equates with elevation, the uplift of the Central Tibetan Plateau probably began as early as 45–38 Ma, which provides important evidence for tectonically driven models of oceanic O–Sr isotope evolution during global cooling and Asian continental aridification beginning in the Eocene.  相似文献

Thermal state, rheology and seismicity in the pannonian basin, Hungary   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
On the basis of data on crustal structure and terrestrial heat flow, a 3-D geothermal model for the lithosphere in the Pannonian basin, Hungary, has been calculated. This model, together with information on crustal composition, laboratory data on rock friction, and certain assumptions about fluid conditions and strain-rate levels within the lithosphere, has been used to construct a rheological model of the area.The results obtained show a layered rheological structure where an aseismic part of the crust is “sandwiched” between an upper and a lower seismogenic crustal layers. According to the proposed rheological model, seismic activity in the upper crust may be expected down to depths of 10–12 km, which is confirmed well by the observed depth distribution of seismicity. The model also predicts a lower crustal seismogenic layer down to 20–22 km. Because of infrequent occurrences of deep earthquakes and/or a generally small number of reliable hypocenter depth determinations in the study area, this seismogenic zone is less constrained by observations.The depth of the different rheologic horizons within the crust is governed mainly by thermal conditions. The lower boundary of both seismogenic layers appears isothermal. Brittle-ductile transition in the upper crust coincides with the ˜200 °C isotherm, while in the lower crust it coincides with the ˜ 375 °C isotherm. The lowermost crust and the upper mantle beneath Hungary show ductile behavior, thus the possibility of siesmic activity at these horizons can be excluded.  相似文献

We invert teleseismic relative residuals recorded in the Thessaloniki seismological network, for the crustal and upper mantle structure beneath Chalkidiki (Northern Greece) where extension is observed to have occurred since Eocene time. After conducting several tests to insure the reliability of the results, a low-velocity anomaly (5–8%) is observed which is located beneath Chalkidiki for the top two layers (0–35 km and 35–85 km); this anomaly is probably related to the fact that the crust is thicker here than beneath the neighboring basins. For the two other layers, with depths between 85 and 145 km and between 145 and 205 km, relatively low velocities (3–5%) are observed beneath the Thermaico Gulf and the Kavala Basin. These results are compared with Lyberis's (1985) [8] calculated shallowing of the isotherms due to extension and thinning of the lithosphere. We conclude that the velocity anomalies that we observe are likely to be due to the intrusion of hot material from the asthenosphere into the gap in the extended lithosphere.  相似文献

Most thermal spring discharges of Rajasthan and Gujarat in northwestern India have been sampled and analysed for major and trace elements in both the liquid and associated gas phase, and for 18O/16O, D/H (in water), 3He/4He and 13C/12C in CO2 (in gas) isotopic ratios. Most thermal springs in Rajasthan are tightly associated to the several regional NE–SW strike-slip faults bordering NE–SW ridges formed by Archaean rocks at the contact with Quaternary alluvial and aeolian sedimentary deposits of the Rajasthan desert. Their Ca–HCO3 immature character and isotopic composition reveals: (1) meteoric origin, (2) relatively shallow circulation inside the crystalline Archaean formations, (3) very fast rise along faults, and (4) deep storage temperatures of the same order of magnitude as discharging temperatures (50–90°C). Thermal spring discharges in Gujarat are spread over a larger area than in Rajasthan and are associated both with the NNW–SSE fault systems bordering the Cambay basin and the ENE–WSW strike-slip fault systems in the Saurashtra province, west of the Cambay basin. Chemical and isotopic compositions of springs in both areas suggest a meteoric origin of deep thermal waters. They mix with fresh or fossil seawater entering the thermal paths of the spring systems through both the fault systems bordering the Cambay basin, as well as faults and fractures occurring inside the permeable Deccan Basalt Trap in the Saurashtra province. The associated gas phase, at all sampled sites, shows similar features: (1) it is dominated by the presence of atmospheric components (N2 and Ar), (2) it has high crustal 4He enrichment, (3) it shows crustal 3He/4He signature, (4) it has low CO2 concentration, and (5) the only analysed sample for 13C/12C isotopic ratio in CO2 suggests that CO2 has a strong, isotopically light organic imprint. All these features and chemical geothermometer estimates of spring waters suggest that any active deep hydrothermal system at the base of the Cambay basin (about 2000–3000 m) has low-to-medium enthalpy characteristics, with maximum deep temperature in the storage zone of about 150°C. In a regional overview, both thermal emergences of Rajasthan and Gujarat could be controlled by the counter-clockwise rotation of India.  相似文献

2008年汶川地震后,为查明北京地区现今地应力状态、评价断裂稳定性,相继在北京地区开展了5个深孔(600~1000 m)的水压致裂法地应力测量,并在适宜深度安装了地应力相对变化监测探头,建立了地应力变化监测台站.本文首先利用实测地应力数据分析了北京地区地壳浅表层应力状态,结果表明:(1)北京地区千米深度内,最大、最小水平主应力随深度增加梯度系数分别为0.0328和0.0221,侧压系数Kav和KHv值,最大、最小水平主应力之比KHh值与国内外已有认识基本一致,而水平向剪应力相对强度参数μm值较低;(2)北京地区最大水平主应力优势方向为近EW向,与华北地区构造应力场方向基本一致,同时受区内断裂活动等影响,存在与区域主应力方向偏差的局部应力场;(3)实测数据揭示的应力结构显示,北京地区地壳浅表层最大主应力(σ1)总体为最大水平主应力(σH),受区域构造演化以及测点附近断裂的影响,中间主应力(σ2)与最小主应力(σ3)所对应的实测地应力存在变化,但总体来讲,实测地应力数据揭示的应力结构与北京地区主要断裂性质基本相吻合.其次,基于实测应力数据,采用库仑摩擦滑动准则,结合拜尔定律,并取摩擦系数为0.2~1.0,初步评价了北京地区主要断裂稳定性,结果显示:(1)在摩擦系数取0.6~1.0条件下,北京地区现今应力状态尚未达到导致断裂失稳滑动水平,断裂不会出现失稳滑动现象;(2)摩擦系数弱化到0.4时,西峰寺钻孔应力状态满足断裂失稳滑动条件,揭示出八宝山断裂存在失稳滑动可能性,而夏垫-马坊断裂和黄庄-高丽营断裂附近测点应力状态将趋近满足断裂失稳滑动条件,表明这两条断裂有趋向失稳滑动可能性;(3)只有当摩擦系数弱化到0.2时,北京地区主要断裂才可能在现今应力状态出现断裂失稳滑动.本文的认识对北京地区乃至华北地区构造应力场、地震地质研究有重要参考意义.  相似文献

The 2-D crustal velocity model along the Hirapur-Mandla DSS profile across the Narmada-Son lineament in central India (Murty et al., 1998) has been updated based on the analysis of some short and discontinuous seismic wide-angle reflection phases. Three layers, with seismic velocities of 6.5–6.7, 6.35–6.40 and 6.8 km s–1, and upper boundaries located approximately at 8, 17 and 22 km depth respectively, have been identified between the basement (velocity 5.9 km s–1) and the uppermost mantle (velocity 7.8 km s–1). The layer with 6.5–6.7 km s–1 velocity is thin and is less than 2-km deep between the Narmada north (at Katangi) and south (at Jabalpur) faults. The upper crust shows a horst feature between these faults, which indicates that the Narmada zone acts as a ridge between two pockets of mafic intrusion in the upper crust. The Moho boundary, at 40–44 km depth and the intra-crustal layers exhibit an upwarp suggesting that the Narmada faults have deep origins, involving deep-seated tectonics. A smaller intrusive thickness between the Narmada faults, as compared to those beyond these faults, suggests that the intrusive activities on the two sides are independent. This further suggests that the two Narmada faults may have been active at different geological times. The seismic model is constrained by 2-D gravity modeling. The gravity highs on either side of the Narmada zone are due to the effect of the high velocity/high density mafic intrusion at upper crustal level.  相似文献
