Both high- and medium-pressure granulites have been found asenclaves and boudins in tonalitictrondhjemiticgranodioriticgneisses in the Hengshan Complex. Petrological evidence fromthese rocks indicates four distinct metamorphic assemblages. The early prograde assemblage (M1) is preserved only in thehigh-pressure granulites and represented by quartz and rutileinclusions within the cores of garnet porphyroblasts, and omphacitepseudomorphs that are indicated by clinopyroxene + sodic plagioclasesymplectic intergrowths. The peak assemblage (M2) consists ofclinopyroxene + garnet + sodic plagioclase + quartz ±hornblende in the high-pressure granulites and orthopyroxene+ clinopyroxene + garnet + plagioclase + quartz in the medium-pressuregranulites. Peak metamorphism was followed by near-isothermaldecompression (M3), which resulted in the development of orthopyroxene+ clinopyroxene + plagioclase symplectites and coronas surroundingembayed garnet grains, and decompression-cooling (M4), representedby hornblende + plagioclase symplectites on garnet. The THERMOCALCprogram yielded peak (M2) PT conditions of 13·415·5kbar and 770840°C for the high-pressure granulitesand 911 kbar and 820870°C for the medium-pressuregranulites, based on the core compositions of garnet, matrixpyroxene and plagioclase. The PT conditions of pyroxene+ plagioclase symplectite and corona (M3) were estimated at 相似文献

Contrasting Episodes of Regional Granulite-Facies Metamorphism in Enclaves and Host Gneisses from the Aravalli Delhi Mobile Belt, NW India 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The Aravalli–Delhi Mobile Belt in the northwestern partof India demonstrates how granulite enclaves and their hostgneisses can be utilized to unravel multistage metamorphic historiesof orogenic belts, using three suites of metamorphic rocks:(1) an enclave of pelitic migmatite gneiss–leptynite gneiss;(2) metamorphosed megacrystic granitoids, intrusive into theenclave; (3) host tonalite–trondhjemite–granodiorite(TTG) gneisses associated with an interlayered sequence of garnetiferousmetabasite and psammo-pelitic schist, locally migmatitic. Basedon integrated structural, petrographic, mineral compositional, geothermobarometric studies and P–T pseudosection modellingin the systems NCKFMASH and NCFMASH, we record three distincttectonothermal events: an older, medium-pressure granulite-faciesmetamorphic event (M1) in the sillimanite stability field, whichis registered only in the enclave, a younger, kyanite-gradehigh-pressure granulite-facies event (M2), common to all thethree litho-associations, and a terminal amphibolite-faciesmetamorphic overprint (M3). The high-P granulite facies eventhas a clockwise P–T loop with a well-constrained prograde, peak (M2, P 12–15 kbar, T 815°C) and retrograde (M2R,6·1 kbar, T 625°C) metamorphic history. M3 is recordedparticularly in late shear zones. When collated with availablegeochronological data, the metamorphic P–T conditionsprovide the first constraint of crustal thickening in this belt, leading to the amalgamation of two crustal blocks during a collisionalorogeny of possible Early Mesoproterozoic age. M3 reactivationis inferred to be of Grenvillian age. KEY WORDS: Northwestern India; polycyclic granulite enclave; pseudosection; high-pressure metamorphism; P–T path 相似文献

Mesoproterozoic Reworking of Palaeoproterozoic Ultrahigh-temperature Granulites in the Central Indian Tectonic Zone and its Implications 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
BHOWMIK S. K.; SARBADHIKARI A. BASU; SPIERING B.; RAITH M. M. 《Journal of Petrology》2005,46(6):1085-1119
In the southern periphery of the Sausar Mobile Belt (SMB), thesouthern component of the Central Indian Tectonic Zone (CITZ),a suite of felsic and aluminous granulites, intruded by gabbro, noritic gabbro, norite and orthopyroxenite, records the polymetamorphicevolution of the CITZ. Using sequences of prograde, peak andretrograde reaction textures, mineral chemistry, geothermobarometricresults and petrogenetic grid considerations from the felsicand the aluminous granulites and applying metamorphosed maficdyke markers and geochronological constraints, two temporallyunrelated granulite-facies tectonothermal events of Pre-Grenvillianage have been established. The first event caused ultrahigh-temperature(UHT) metamorphism (M1) (T 950°C) at relatively deepercrustal levels (P 9 kbar) and a subsequent post-peak near-isobariccooling PT history (M2). M1 caused pervasive biotite-dehydrationmelting, producing garnetorthopyroxene and garnetrutileand sapphirinespinel-bearing incongruent solid assemblagesin felsic and aluminous granulites, respectively. During M2,garnetcorundum and later spinelsillimanitebiotiteassemblages were produced by reacting sapphirinespinelsillimaniteand rehydration of garnetcorundum assemblages, respectively.Applying electron microprobe (EMP) dating techniques to monazitesincluded in M1 garnet or occurring in low-strain domains inthe felsic granulites, the UHT metamorphism is dated at 20402090Ma. Based on the deep crustal heatingcooling PTtrajectory, the authors infer an overall counterclockwise PTpath for this UHT event. During the second granulite event, the Palaeoproterozoic granulites experienced crustal attenuationto 6·4 kbar at T 675°C during M3 and subsequentnear-isothermal loading to 8 kbar during M4. In the felsic granulites, the former is marked by decomposition of M1 garnet to orthopyroxeneplagioclasesymplectites. During M4, there was renewed growth of garnetquartzsymplectites in the felsic granulites, replacing the M3 mineralassemblage and also the appearance of coronal garnetquartzclinopyroxeneassemblages in metamorphosed mafic dykes. Using monazites frommetamorphic overgrowths and metamorphic recrystallization domainsfrom the felsic granulite, the M4 metamorphism is dated at 15251450Ma. Using geochronological and metamorphic constraints, theauthors interpret the M3M4 stages to be part of the sameMesoproterozoic tectonothermal event. The result provides thefirst documentation of UHT metamorphism and Palaeo- and Mesoproterozoicmetamorphic processes in the CITZ. On a broader scale, the findingsare also consistent with the current prediction that isobaricallycooled granulites require a separate orogeny for their exhumation. Variation in Metamorphic Style along the Northern Margin of the Damara Orogen, Namibia 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The northern margin of the Inland Branch of the Pan-AfricanDamara Orogen in Namibia shows dramatic along-strike variationin metamorphic character during convergence between the Congoand Kalahari Cratons (M3 metamorphic cycle). Low-P contact metamorphismwith anticlockwise PT paths dominates in the westerndomains (Ugab Zone and western Northern Zone), and high-P Barrovianmetamorphism with a clockwise PT path is documented fromthe easternmost domain (eastern Northern Zone). The sequenceof M3 mineral growth in contact aureoles shows early growthof cordierite porphyroblasts that were pseudomorphed to biotitechloritemuscoviteat the same time as an andalusitebiotitemuscovitetransposed foliation was developed in the matrix. The peak-Tmetamorphic assemblages and fabrics were overprinted by crenulationsand retrograde chloritemuscovite. The KFMASH PTpseudosection for metapelites in the Ugab Zone and western NorthernZone contact aureoles indicates tight anticlockwise PTloops through peak metamorphic conditions of 540570°Cand 2·53·2 kbar. These semi-quantitativePT loops are consistent with average PT calculationsusing THERMOCALC, which give a pooled mean of 556 ± 26°Cand 3·2 ± 0·6 kbar, indicating a high averagethermal gradient of 50°C/km. In contrast, the eastern NorthernZone experienced deep burial, high-P/moderate-T Barrovian M3metamorphism with an average thermal gradient of 21°C/kmand peak metamorphic conditions of c. 635°C and 8·7kbar. The calculated PT pseudosection and garnet compositionalisopleths in KFMASH, appropriate for the metapelite sample fromthis region, document a clockwise PT path. Early plagioclasekyanitebiotiteparageneses evolved by plagioclase consumption and the growthof garnet to increasing XFe, XMg and XCa and decreasing XMncompositions, indicating steep burial with heating. The developedkyanitegarnetbiotite peak metamorphic parageneseswere followed by the resorption of garnet and formation of plagioclasemoats, indicating decompression, which was followed by retrogressivecooling and chloritemuscovite growth. The clockwise PTloop is consistent with the foreland vergent foldthrustbelt geometry in this part of the northern margin. Earlier formed(580570 Ma) pervasive matrix foliations (M2) were overprintedby contact metamorphic parageneses (M3) in the aureoles of 530± 3 Ma granites in the Ugab Zone and 553514 Magranites in the western Northern Zone. Available geochronologicaldata suggest that convergence between the Congo and KalahariCratons was essentially coeval in all parts of the northernmargin, with similar ages of 535530 Ma for the main phaseof deformation in the eastern Northern Zone and Northern Platformand 538505 Ma high-grade metamorphism of the CentralZone immediately to the south. Consequently, NNESSW-directedconvergent deformation and associated M3 metamorphism of contrastingstyles are interpreted to be broadly contemporaneous along thelength of the northern margin of the Inland Branch. In the westheat transfer was dominated by conduction and externally drivenby granites, whereas in the east heat transfer was dominatedby advection and internally driven radiogenic heat production. The ultimate cause was along-orogen variation in crustal architecture, including thickness of the passive margin lithosphere and thicknessof the overlying sedimentary succession. Archean tonalitic-granodioritic orthogneisses bordering theSkaergaard Intrusion contain widespread boudins and lenses ofgarnet-biotite schist, quartzite, amphibolite, and ultramaficrocks. These rocks are similar to and locally gradational withnarrow intact supracrustal belts in the region. We correlateearliest isoclinal folds in supracrustal belt rocks and in earliesttonalitic-trondhjemitic-granitic (TTG1) orthogneisses with regionallydeveloped (D2) deformation. We also correlate strong foliation(Ssp1) in the supracrustal rocks and banding (Sbgn1) in earliestorthogneisses with D2 deformation which followed and overlappedearliest M1 metamorphism. Ssp1 foliation is in part axial planarwith D2 isoclinal folds transposing compositional and subparallelmetamorphic banding in the hinge areas. Ssp1 assemblages inmetapelites consist of folia of coexisting sillimanite-biotite-quartzand correspond roughly to metamorphism at the second sillimaniteisograd. We correlate syntectonic emplacement of a later generationof orthogneisses (TTG2) with strong D3 shearing-cataclasis associatedwith tectonic intercalation of supracrustal rocks and earliestorthogneisses. The latest metamorphic assemblages (M2) consistof granoblastic and porphyroblastic minerals that overprintSsp1 (M1) foliation and D3 fabrics. These assemblages formedduring largely static regional metamorphism about 2900 Ma agoand are locally aligned with fabric elements of D4 folding. Temperatures during M2 metamorphism equalled or exceeded thestability of biotite-sillimanite-quartz in metapelites and chlorite-orthopyroxene-olivine-spinel-hornblendein ultramafic rocks. Fe-Mg biotite-garnet exchange, and thepressure-dependent garnet-plagioclase-sillimanite-quartz equilibriumassemblage in metapelites yield temperature and pressure estimatesfor M2 metamorphism of 650700?C and 34 kb. Thesedata suggest that M2 assemblages formed as results of dehydrationreactions at water partial pressures that were less than thetotal pressure. The temperature-dependent equilibrium assemblagechlorite-orthopyroxene-olivine-spinel-vapor (+hornblende), adjustedfor observed phase compositions, is consistent with the Fe-Mgbiotitegarnet exchange geothermometer. Rare-earth element, Rb-Sr and Pb-Pb isotopic, and other compositionalcharacteristics of the orthogneisses are generally consistentwith a multiple stage magmatic origin of their protoliths. OlderTTG1 orthogneisses have compositions generally consistent withformation of the magmas parental to their protoliths by partialmelting of garnetiferous source rocks such as eclogite, or lowercrust. Younger TTG2 orthogneisses have compositions that areconsistent with their formation as water-saturated second meltsin equilibrium with a hornblende-rich residuum. Their formationoccurred within a few 107 y after crustal emplacement of TTG1orthogneisses. The source of water for the formation of later(TTG2) melts may have been M2 dehydration reactions deeper withinthe supracrustal pile. 相似文献

Complex Growth Textures in a Polymetamorphic Metabasite from the Kraubath Massif (Eastern Alps) 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Zoned garnet and amphibole occur in metabasites of the KraubathMassif, Eastern Alps, that contain relic magmatic clinopyroxene. The amphibole composition gradually changes from core (XMg =0·83) to rim (XMg = 0·60·7). A numberof compositional varieties of garnet occur in the metabasite. An older porphyroblastic garnet (Py2327, Alm4143,Grs2933) has two different compositional domains, onerelatively rich in Mg (Py2730) and the other rich inCa (Grs3538) with a low Mg (Py2025) content. Theyoungest variety, which forms rims on, or microveins in, theporphyroblastic garnet, has high Ca and low Mg (Grs4057,Py27, Alm4651). The amphibole cores and garnetporphyroblasts are interpreted to represent minerals formedduring Variscan regional metamorphism under amphibolite-faciesconditions. Alpine metamorphism is represented by the most recentCa-rich and Mg-poor variety of garnet that coexists with theamphibole rims, epidote and chlorite. Fracturing in the porphyroblasticgarnet probably originated during retrogression of the Variscanamphibolite-facies assemblages. Textural relations suggest thatthe garnet in the microveins formed by dehydration of hydrousphases during an Alpine metamorphic overprint that reached PTconditions of 550583°C at 1·0 GPa. Metamorphic Evolution of the Ribeira Belt: Evidence from Outcrops in the Rio de Janeiro Area, Brazil
Migmatitic granulites and arc-related felsic intrusives of Pan-Africanage form the bedrock in the Rio de Janeiro area, SE Brazil. These rocks preserve a partial record of three parageneses. The earliest assemblage (M1) grew during fabric formation inthe rocks (D1) and is characterized by the mineral assemblagePl + Bt + Sil + Kfs + Qtz. Peak metamorphic conditions (M2)are characterized by the assemblage Bt + Crd + Kfs + Pl + Grt+ liq + Qtz and are inferred to have developed during D2 foldingof the rocks at T = 750800°C and P = 7 kbar. M3 reactiontextures overprint the M2 assemblage and comprise symplectiticintergrowth of cordierite(II) and quartz that formed after garnet, whereas secondary biotite formed as a result of reactions betweengarnet and K-feldspar. By comparing the observed modal abundanceswith modal contours of garnet, cordierite and quartz on therelevant pseudosection a post M2 PT vector indicatingcontemporaneous cooling and decompression can be deduced. Theinferred equilibrium assemblage and reaction textures are interpretedto reflect a clockwise PT path involving heating followedby post-peak decompression and associated cooling. We inferthat metamorphism occurred in response to advective heatingby the abundant syn-collisional (arc-related) I-type granitoidsin the region, consistent with the unusually high peak T/P ratio. Phase Relations in Peridotitic and Pyroxenitic Rocks in the Model Systems CMASH and NCMASH 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Alpine-type peridotites and associated pyroxenites are foundas lenses in the continental crust in many different orogens. The reconstruction of the pressuretemperature (PT)evolution of these rocks is, however, difficult or even impossible. With geothermobarometry, usually one point on the overall PTpath can be obtained. To use the different mineral assemblagesobserved in ultramafic rocks as PT indicators, quantitativePT phase diagrams are required. This study presents newcalculated phase diagrams for peridotitic and pyroxenitic rocksin the model systems CaOMgOAl2O3SiO2H2O(CMASH) and Na2OCaOMgOAl2O3SiO2H2O(NCMASH), which include the respective solid solutions as continuousexchange vectors. These phase diagrams represent applicablepetrogenetic grids for peridotite and pyroxenite. On the basisof these general petrogenetic grids, phase diagrams for particularperidotite and pyroxenite bulk compositions are constructed. In an example of pyroxenite from the Shackleton Range, Antarctica, the different observed mineral assemblages are reflected bythe phase diagrams. For these rocks, a high-pressure metamorphicstage around 18 kbar and an anticlockwise PT evolution, not recognized previously, can be inferred. A suite of garnetiferous amphibolites and mafic granulites occuras small boudins within layered felsic migmatite gneiss in thenorthern part of the Sausar Mobile Belt (SMB), the latter constitutingthe southern component of the Proterozoic Central Indian TectonicZone (CITZ). Although the two types of metabasites are in variousstages of retrogression, textural, compositional and phase equilibriastudies attest to four distinct metamorphic episodes. The earlyprograde stage (Mo) is represented by an inclusion assemblageof hornblende1 + ilmenite1 + plagioclase1 ± quartz andgrowth zoning preserved in garnet. The peak assemblage (M1)consists of porphyroblastic garnet + clinopyroxene ±quartz ± rutile ± hornblende in mafic granulitesand garnet + quartz + hornblende in amphibolites and stabilizedat pressuretemperature conditions of 910 kbarand 750800°C and 8 kbar and 675°C, respectively. This was followed by near-isothermal decompression (M2), andpost-decompression cooling (M3) events. In mafic granulites, the former resulted in the development of early clinopyroxene2Ahornblende2Aplagioclase2Asymplectites at 8 kbar and 775°C (M2A stage), synchronouswith D2 and later anhydrous clinopyroxene2Bplagioclase2Bilmenite2Bsymplectites and coronal assemblages at 7 kbar, 750°C (M2Bstage) and post-dating D2. In amphibolites, ilmenite + plagioclase+ quartz ± hornblende symplectites appeared during M2at 6·4 kbar and 700°C. During M3, coronal garnet+ clinopyroxene + quartz ± hornblende-bearing symplectitesin metabasic dykes and hornblende3plagioclase3 symplectitesembaying garnet in mafic granulites were formed. PT estimatesshow near-isobaric cooling from 7 kbar and 750°C to 6 kbarand 650°C during M3. It is argued that the decompressionin the mafic granulites is not continuous, being punctuatedby a distinct heating (prograde?) event. The latter is alsocoincident with a period of extension, marked by mafic dykeemplacement. The combined PT path of evolution has aclockwise sense and provides evidence for a major phase of earlycontinental subduction in parts of the CITZ. This was followedby a later continentcontinent collision event duringwhich granulites of the first phase became tectonically interleavedwith younger lithological units. This tectonothermal event,of possibly Grenvillian age, marks the final amalgamation ofthe North and the South Indian Blocks along the CITZ to producethe Indian subcontinent. Lawsonite-Omphacite-Bearing Metabasites of the Pam Peninsula, NE New Caledonia: Evidence for Disrupted Blueschist- to Eclogite-Facies Conditions 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The Diahot terrane of NE New Caledonia contains an interbeddedsequence of Cretaceous to Eocene metasediments, felsic and maficmetavolcanics that experienced c. 40 Ma high-P/T metamorphism.Metabasaltic assemblages define two prograde events (M1 andM2) and a tectonically disrupted crustal profile that extendsfrom lawsoniteblueschist conditions in the SW to paragoniteeclogiteconditions in the NE. Weakly deformed metabasalts from lowest-gradeparts of the Diahot terrane contain M1 omphacite, chlorite, lawsonite and glaucophane-bearing assemblages that partiallypseudomorph igneous plagioclase and augite, and reflect P =0·71·0 GPa and T = 350400°C.M1 assemblages are enveloped by a steeply SW-dipping S2 foliationthat becomes progressively more intense towards the NE overa distance of c. 15 km. S2 assemblages are divided into fourzones: (1) lawsoniteomphacite; (2) lawsoniteclinozoisitespessartine;(3) clinozoisitehornblendealmandine; (4) almandineomphacite.S2 assemblages reflect a PT gradient that spans the exposed15 km of the Diahot terrane from P = 0·81·0GPa and T = 350400°C (Zone 1) to P = 1·61·7GPa and T = 550600°C (Zone 4). The systematic mineralogicalchanges reflect parts of a PT array between 1·0and 1·7 GPa that was extensively disrupted by tectonicthinning during exhumation. Talc-, Magnesite- and Ti-Clinohumite-Bearing Ultrahigh-Pressure Meta-Mafic and Ultramafic Complex in the Dabie Mountains, China 总被引:18,自引:4,他引:18
The Bixiling mafic-ultramafic metamorphic complex is a 15km2 tectonic block within biotite gneiss in the southern Dabieultrahigh-pressure terrane, central China. The complex consistsof banded eclogites that contain thin layers of garnet-bearingcumulate ultramafic rock. Except for common eclogitic phases(garnet, omphacite, kyanite, phengite, zoisite and rutilc),banded eclogites contain additional talc and abundant coesiteinclusions in omphacite, zoisite, kyanite and garnet. Some metaultramaficrocks contain magnesite and Ti-clinohumite. Both eclogites andmeta-ultramafic rocks have undergone multi-stage metamorphism.Eclogite facies metamorphisrn occurred at 610700C andP>27 kbar, whereas amphibolite facies retrograde metamorphismis characterized by symplectites of plagioclase and hornblendeafter omphacite and replacement of tremolite after talc at P<615kbar and T <600C. The meta-ultramafic assemblages such asolivine + enstatite + diopside + garnet and Ti-clinohumite +diopside + enstatite + garnet + magnesite olivine formed at700800C and 4767 kbar. Investigation of the phaserelations for the system CaO-MgO-SiO2-H2O-CO2 and the experimentallydetermined stabilities of talc, magnesite and Ti-clinohumiteindicate that (1) UHP talc assemblages are restricted to Mg-Algabbro composition and cannot be an important water-bearingphase in the ultramafic mantle, and (2) Ti-clinohumite and magnesiteare stable H2O-bearing and CO2-bearing phases at depths >100km. The mafic-ultramafic cumulates were initially emplaced atcrustal levels, then subducted to great depths during the Triassiccollision of the Sine-Korean and Yangtze cratons. In the Granite Falls-Montevideo area, Minnesota, granulite faciesmineral assemblages were collected from three major lithologicunitshornblende-pyroxene gneiss, garnet-biotite gneiss, and granitic gneiss. Mineral assemblages most commonly observedare: plagioclase-hornblende-orthopyroxene-clinopyroxene-magnetite-ilmenite-(biotite-quartz);quartz-plagioclase-biotite-garnet-orthopyroxene-(orthoclase);quartz-plagioclase-biotite-garnet-(orthoclase); quartz-plagioclase-microcline-(garnet-hematite);and quartz-plagio-clase-microcline-biotite-(garnet-hematite-rutile).Partial analyses of isomorphous phases from the hornblende-pyroxenegneiss and the garnet-biotite gneiss were determined with anelectron microprobe. Negligible compositional variation within single grains andof a particular mineral within a given specimen, regular distributionof Fe and Mg between coexisting hornblende, ortho-pyroxene,and clinopyroxene, obedience of the mineral assemblages to theGibbs Phase Rule, and lack of empirically determined incompatiblephases indicate a close approach to chemical equilibrium duringmetamorphism. Plots of coexisting biotite, garnet, and orthopyroxeneon an appropriate phase diagram result in some crossing tielines which cannot be adequately explained by temperature orpressure differences, but suggest that H2O and/or O2 were notperfectly mobile components during metamorphism. This is alsoindicated by interlayering of hornblende assemblages with pyroxeneassemblages and by different iron oxide phases in essentiallythe same mineral assemblage. Textural and chemical relationships of retrograde metamorphicassemblages suggest that some retrograde reactions are a resultof cooling following the granulite-facies metamorphism, butthat others may have resulted from recrystallization duringa stage of thermal metamorphism that is reflected in the potassium-argonand rubidium-strontium biotite ages of the metamorphic rocks. 相似文献

Contrasting P-T Paths in the Eastern Himalaya, Nepal: Inverted Isograds in a Paired Metamorphic Mountain Belt 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Petrology and phase equilibria of rocks from two profiles inEastern Nepal from the Lesser Himalayan Sequences, across theMain Central Thrust Zone and into the Greater Himalayan Sequencesreveal a Paired Metamorphic Mountain Belt (PMMB) composed oftwo thrust-bound metamorphic terranes of contrasting metamorphicstyle. At the higher structural level, the Greater HimalayanSequences experienced high-T/moderate-P metamorphism, with ananticlockwise PT path. Low-P inclusion assemblages ofquartz + hercynitic spinel + sillimanite have been overgrownby peak metamorphic garnet + cordierite + sillimanite assemblagesthat equilibrated at 837 ± 59°C and 6·7 ±1·0 kbar. Matrix minerals are overprinted by numerousmetamorphic reaction textures that document isobaric coolingand re-equilibrated samples preserve evidence of cooling to600 ± 45°C at 5·7 ±1·1 kbar.Below the Main Central Thrust, the Lesser Himalayan Sequencesare a continuous (though inverted) Barrovian sequence of high-P/moderate-Tmetamorphic rocks. Metamorphic zones upwards from the loweststructural levels in the south are: Zone A: albite + chlorite + muscovite ± biotite; Zone B: albite + chlorite + muscovite + biotite + garnet; Zone C: albite + muscovite + biotite + garnet ± chlorite; Zone D: oligoclase + muscovite + biotite + garnet ± kyanite; Zone E: oligoclase + muscovite + biotite + garnet + staurolite+ kyanite; Zone F: bytownite + biotite + garnet + K-feldspar + kyanite± muscovite; Zone G: bytownite + biotite + garnet + K-feldspar + sillimanite+ melt ± kyanite. The Lesser Himalayan Sequences show evidence for a clockwisePT path. Peak-P conditions from mineral cores average10·0 ± 1·2 kbar and 557 ± 39°C,and peak-metamorphic conditions from rims average 8·8± 1·1 kbar and 609 ± 42°C in ZonesDF. Matrix assemblages are overprinted by decompressionreaction textures, and in Zones F and G progress into the sillimanitefield. The two terranes were brought into juxtaposition duringformation of sillimanitebiotite ± gedrite foliationseams (S3) formed at conditions of 674 ± 33°C and5·7 ± 1·1 kbar. The contrasting averagegeothermal gradients and PT paths of these two metamorphicterranes suggest they make up a PMMB. The upper-plate positionof the Greater Himalayan Sequences produced an anticlockwisePT path, with the high average geothermal gradient beingpossibly due to high radiogenic element content in this terrane. In contrast, the lower-plate Lesser Himalayan Sequences weredeeply buried, metamorphosed in a clockwise PT path anddisplay inverted isograds as a result of progressive ductileoverthrusting of the hot Greater Himalayan Sequences duringprograde metamorphism. This study explores the origin and geochemical evolution ofapatite, monazite, and xenotime along two metamorphic traverses. The first, from the Kigluaik Mountains, Seward Peninsula, Alaska, consists of a localized (85 cm) orthopyroxeneclinopyroxene-bearingdehydration zone. The second consists of orthopyroxene ±clinopyroxene-bearing granulite facies metabasite layers interlayeredwith metapelites over a 34 km traverse, along the ValStrona, IvreaVerbano Zone, Northern Italy (IVZ). In bothdehydration zones small Th- and U-poor inclusions of monaziteand/or xenotime occur in the apatite. These inclusions are metasomaticallyinduced and nucleated within the apatite via the coupled substitutionsNa+ + (Y + REE)3+ = 2 Ca2+ and Si4+ + (Y + REE)3+ = P5+ + Ca2+.These are not present in apatite from the original amphibolitefacies gneiss. Apatite, in both dehydration zones, also showsa relative increase in both F and Cl compared with apatite fromthe amphibolite facies zone. Granulite facies metabasites inthe IVZ also contain isolated monazite grains, which range fromuniform to complexly zoned in Th the (1330·1 mol% ThSiO4). These are the product of breakdown and subsequentmobilization of the lanthanides and actinides from monazite-(Ce)in the metapelite layers into the metabasite layers at the startof granulite facies metamorphism. Metamorphic History of Sapphirine-bearing and Related Magnesian Gneisses from Namaqualand, South Africa 总被引:1,自引:2,他引:1
Sapphirine occurs with cordierite, phlogopite, spinel, sillimanite, corundum, orthopyroxene, and gedrite in granulite facies Mg-and Al-rich paragneisses within the low P, high T NamaqualandMetamorphic Complex. The gneisses reveal a three-stage texturalhistory. Sapphirine appeared during a second stage of progrademineral growth which produced nodular structures and intergrowthsinvolving spinel, corundum, and sillimanite, pseudomorphingan earlier generation of coarse, amphibolite facies minerals.A third generation of coarse, cross-cutting, mainly hydrousminerals (gedrite, kornerupine, phlogopite) is sporadicallydeveloped. The wide variety of cofacial mineral assemblages allows thedelineation of the stable mineral associations of sapphirinein the system K2O-MgO-FeO-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O under P-T conditionsindependently estimated at about 5 kb, 750800 °C.The natural assemblages provide constraints which, taken togetherwith existing thermodynamic and experimental data, allow theestimation of P-T slopes of sapphirine equilibria. The mineraltextures thus indicate sapphirine growth under increasing T,decreasing a(H2O), and constant or slightly increasing P. The preservation of prograde reaction textures during fine-grainedmineral growth probably results from the reduced importanceand/or more CO2-rich composition of the metamorphic fluid undergranulite facies conditions in these refractory rocks. Aqueousfluids were locally reintroduced after the metamorphic peak. 相似文献

Contact metamorphism of siliceous dolomite in the southern partof the metamorphic aureole of the Alta stock (Utah, USA) producedthe prograde isograd sequence: talc (Tc), tremolite (Tr), forsterite(Fo), and periclase (Per). Calcite (Cc)dolomite (Do)geothermometry and phase equilibria define a general progradeTX(CO2) path of decreasing X(CO2) with rising temperaturefor the dolomite. High-variance assemblages typify the aureole.Per + Cc and Fo + Cc + Do characterize the inner aureole (Perand Fo zones), and Tr + Do + Cc and Tc + Do + Cc are widespreadin the outer aureole (Tr and Tc zones). Low-variance assemblagesare rare and the thickness of reaction zones (coexisting reactantand product minerals) at the isogradic reaction fronts are narrow(tens of metres or less). The mineral assemblages, calculatedprogress of isograd reactions, and the prograde TX(CO2)path all indicate that massive dolomite was infiltrated by significantfluxes of water-rich fluids during prograde metamorphism, andthat the fluid flow was down-temperature and laterally awayfrom the igneous contact. Fluid infiltration continued throughat least the initial retrograde cooling of the periclase zone.Down-T fluid flow is also consistent with the results of CcDogeothermometry and patterns of 18O depletion in this area. Theclose spatial association of reacted and unreacted chert nodulesin both the tremolite and talc zones plus the formation of tremoliteby two reactions indicate that the outer aureole varied in X(CO2),and imply that fluid flow in the outer aureole was heterogeneous. The occurrence of dolomite-rich and periclase (brucite)-absent,high- 相似文献

K-feldsparplagioclasequartz mineral textures aswell as biotite and hornblende compositions are compared forsuites of metamorphosed mafic rocks from two widely separatedtraverses. A portion of either traverse has experienced a high-gradedehydration event transforming it from an H2O-rich, hornblende-bearingzone to an H2O-poor, hornblende-free, orthopyroxene-bearing,granulite facies zone at 700800°C and78 kbar. In the Kigluaik Mountains, Seward Peninsula,Alaska, dehydration took place over an 85 cm thick layer ofmetatonalite in contact with a marble during regional metamorphismand involved a CO2-rich fluid, whereas for the Val Strona diOmegna traverse, IvreaVerbano Zone, northern Italy, dehydrationtook place over a 34 km thick sequence of metabasitesinterlayered with metapelites in a contact metamorphic eventinvolving basaltic magmas intruded at the base of the sequence.Orthopyroxene-bearing samples from both dehydration zones showmicro-veins of K-feldspar along quartz and plagioclase grainboundaries as well as replacement antiperthite in plagioclase.K came primarily from the breakdown of hornblende + quartz toorthopyroxene ± clinopyroxene, feldspar and fluid. Biotiteeither was stabilized or formed in the dehydration zones andis enriched in Ti, Mg, F and Cl relative to biotite in the amphibolitefacies zone. The O'okiep Copper District is underlain by voluminous 10351210Ma granite gneiss and granite with remnants of metamorphosedsupracrustal rocks. This assemblage was intruded by the 1030Ma copper-bearing Koperberg Suite that includes jotunite, anorthosite, biotite diorite and hypersthene-bearing rocks ranging from leuconoriteto hypersthenite. New sensitive high-resolution ion microprobeage data demonstrate the presence of 17002000 Ma zirconas xenocrysts in all of the intrusive rocks, and as detritalzircon in the metasediments of the Khurisberg Subgroup. Thesedata are consistent with published SmNd model ages ofc. 1700 Ma (TCHUR) and c. 2000 Ma (TDM) of many of the intrusivesthat support a major crust-forming event in Eburnian (Hudsonian)times. In addition, UThPb analyses of zirconsfrom all major rock units define two tectono-magmatic episodesof the Namaquan Orogeny: (1) the O'okiepian Episode (11801210Ma), represented by regional granite plutonism, notably theNababeep and Modderfontein Granite Gneisses and the Concordiaand Kweekfontein Granites that accompanied and outlasted (e.g.Kweekfontein Granite) regional tectonism [F2(D2)] and granulite-faciesmetamorphism (M2); (2) the Klondikean Episode (10201040Ma), which includes the intrusion of the porphyritic RietbergGranite and of the Koperberg Suite that are devoid of regionalplanar or linear fabrics. Klondikean tectonism (D3) is reflectedby major eastwest-trending open folds [F3(D3a)], andby localized eastwest-trending near-vertical ductilefolds [steep structures; F4(D3b)] whose formationwas broadly coeval with the intrusion of the Koperberg Suite.A regional, largely thermal, amphibolite- to granulite-faciesmetamorphism (M3) accompanied D3. This study demonstrates, interalia, that the complete spectrum of rock-types of the KoperbergSuite, together with the Rietberg Granite, was intruded in ashort time-interval (<10 Myr) at c. 1030 Ma, and that therewere lengthy periods of about 150 Myr of tectonic quiescencewithin the Namaquan Orogeny: (1) between the O'okiepian andKlondikean Episodes; (2) from the end of the latter to the formalend of Namaquan Orogenesis 800850 Ma ago. High-pressure metamorphic rocks form a coastal belt, 175 kmby 35 km, in northeastern New Caledonia. Metamorphic grade rangesfrom lawsonite-albite schists through glaucophane-epidote schiststo omphacite-garnet-quartz gneisses. In the eclogitic terrane, metabasites, locally containing relict pillow structure andigneous textures, with well-preserved eclogitic mineral assemblages, are intercalated with metasedimentary gneisses containing albite-epidote-garnet? glaucophane and barroisite. Omphacite is partly retrogressedto albite and ferromagnesian minerals in almost every paragneiss. The paragneisses show strong evidence of penetrative foldingand microfracturing and were more permeable to metamorphic fluidsthan were the metabasites. The metabasites are inferred to havebeen relatively dry and free of penetrative deformationduring the latter stages of metamorphism and thus were preservedmetastably during uplift, erosion, and cooling. Fe-Mg exchange thermometry between omphacite and garnet suggeststemperatures between 520 and 600 ?C. Omphacite + quartz (molper cent jadeite = 3743) does not coexist stably withalbite suggesting minimum pressures near 12 kb at 550 ?C. Remnantsof more jadeite-rich pyroxenes in paragneisses (jd5060)suggest even higher pressure. The stable coexistence of chloritoidalmandine-quartz in paragneisses suggests relatively H2O-rich fluids werein equilibrium with this assemblage. The widespread stable occurrenceof sphene suggests relatively low fco2 during metamorphism.Late stage healed fractures in quartz contain H2O-rich fluidinclusions with relatively low density isochores. Limited geochronologicdata combined with these petrologic data suggest a fairly rapidinitial rate of uplift followed by a much slower rate of uplift 相似文献
