The duration of activity growths in solar cycles is on average shorter than the duration of its declines. This asymmetry can result from fluctuations in dynamo parameters. A solar dynamo model with fluctuations in the α-effect shows the statistical asymmetry which increases with both fluctuation amplitude and coherence time. An interpretation for the asymmetry origin is suggested, which predicts a correlation between the asymmetry measure and delay of the polar field reversals relative to the activity maxima. Data on the twelve latest solar cycles confirm such a correlation.  相似文献

The polar cap magnetic activity MAGPC-index characterizing the intensity of disturbances affected by the IMF vertical component was derived from the antarctic station Vostok data in accordance to method of Troshichev et al. (1979a). The paper examines the statistical relationship between the 15-min values of this index and interplanetary quantities such as IMF components, solar wind velocity, interplanetary electric field and others. The results of the computation show a good correlation of MAGPC indices with interplanetary quantities including the IMF southward component. The best correlation is obtained for the merging electric field. The conclusion is : the MAGPC index derived from the background magnetic data may be used for monitoring of the convection electric field in the polar cap.  相似文献

A study of the predominant interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) polarity is made, for the time period 1957–1977. The examination of the mean positive and negative sector width for time periods (semesters) for which the Earth was in northern and southern heliolatitudes shows that the predominant polarity for every semester follows, up to a certain extent, the Rosenberg-Coleman effect. However, the statistical support is not satisfactory. The same conclusion was pointed out by a similar study of data grouped over various phases of the solar cycle.Additionally the relative frequency of positive (negative) IMF polarity days, appeared over a mean solar rotation, shows that the general pattern of the mean IMF has a tendency to reoccur in the homologous (corresponding) phases of different solar cycles.  相似文献

Using Unruh-Verlinde temperature obtained by entropic force, we directly calculate partition functions of quantum field in Schwarzschild spacetime via quantum statistical method and derive the expression of the black hole statistical entropy. In our calculation the lower limit of integral is the location of isolated horizon introduced in loop quantum gravity and the upper limit of integral is infinity. So the obtained entropy is the statistical entropy from isolated horizon to the infinite. In our calculation there are not the cutoff and approximation. The results showed that, as long as proper Immirzi parameters are selected, the entropy obtained by loop quantum gravity is consistent with the quantum statistical entropy outside the black hole horizon. Therefore the black hole entropy is a quantum entanglement entropy outside the isolated horizon.  相似文献

The broadband spectral energy distribution(SED) of blazars is generally interpreted as radiation arising from synchrotron and inverse Compton mechanisms. Traditionally, the underlying source parameters responsible for these emission processes, like particle energy density, magnetic field, etc.,are obtained through simple visual reproduction of the observed fluxes. However, this procedure is incapable of providing confidence ranges for the estimated parameters. In this work,we propose an efficient algorithm to perform a statistical fit of the observed broadband spectrum of blazars using different emission models. Moreover,we use the observable quantities as the fit parameters, rather than the direct source parameters which govern the resultant SED. This significantly improves the convergence time and eliminates the uncertainty regarding initial guess parameters. This approach also has an added advantage of identifying the degenerate parameters, which can be removed by including more observable information and/or additional constraints. A computer code developed based on this algorithm is implemented as a user-defined routine in the standard X-ray spectral fitting package,XSPEC. Further,we demonstrate the efficacy of the algorithm by fitting the well sampled SED of blazar 3 C 279 during its gamma ray flare in 2014.  相似文献

We have determined new statistical relations to estimate the fundamental atmospheric parameters of effective temperature and surface gravity, using MK spectral classification, and vice versa. The relations were constructed based on the published calibration tables(for main sequence stars) and observational data from stellar spectral atlases(for giants and supergiants). These new relations were applied to field giants with known atmospheric parameters, and the results of the comparison of our estimations with available spectral classification have been quite satisfactory.  相似文献

VLET's (Very Low Electron Temperature) are regions in the solar wind (lasting 12–30 h) in which the electron temperature is abnormally low. Because it is generally believed that the thermal conductivity parallel to the interplanetary magnetic field lines is high for electrons, i.e. the contact with the Sun should be ideal, VLET's are surprising observations. In this work a statistical analysis of many of these events is made with respect to the dependence of this phenomenon on interplanetary plasma and field parameters. In contrast with earlier work it was found that VLET's exist not only after a shock front. The statistical analysis showed further that a VLET is always associated with a VLPT (Very Low Proton Temperature) event and that, whilst on average the temperature of the electrons and protons outside the low temperature regions is about the same, the mean proton temperature inside is three times lower than that of the electrons.A particular model for VLET's is investigated in detail; the closed magnetic loop or “blob” model. By assuming: (a) pure adiabatic expansion in a radially streaming solar wind without pressure equalization across the “blob” boundary, and (b) rapid pressure equalization across the boundary, an attempt was made to quantitatively investigate the feasibility of the “blob” model in the light of plasma and field data. It can be shown that the closed magnetic loop model is unlikely to be the major cause of VLET's.  相似文献

A statistical study has been carried out of the relationship between plasma flow Doppler velocities and magnetic field parameters during the emergence of active regions at the solar photospheric level with data acquired by the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) onboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). We have investigated 224 emerging active regions with different spatial scales and positions on the solar disc. The following relationships for the first hours of the emergence of active regions have been analysed: i) of peak negative Doppler velocities with the position of the emerging active regions on the solar disc; ii) of peak plasma upflow and downflow Doppler velocities with the magnetic flux growth rate and magnetic field strength for the active regions emerging near the solar disc centre (the vertical component of plasma flows); iii) of peak positive and negative Doppler velocities with the magnetic flux growth rate and magnetic field strength for the active regions emerging near the limb (the horizontal component of plasma flows); iv) of the magnetic flux growth rate with the density of emerging magnetic flux; v) of the Doppler velocities and magnetic field parameters for the first hours of the appearance of active regions with the total unsigned magnetic flux at the maximum of their development.  相似文献

A unifying theoretical approach is presented to derive from the general principles of Quantum Electrodynamics both the radiative transfer equations for polarized radiation and the statistical equilibrium equations for an atomic system interacting with a polarized radiation field. The radiation field is described by means of Stokes parameters while the atomic system is described in terms of its density-matrix operator. The non-diagonal terms of the density matrix are fully accounted for so that this formalism can be suitably employed to describe a wide variety of physical phenomena like resonance scattering, the Hanle effect and the Zeeman effect, either in optically thin or optically thick atmospheres, together with all the possible intermediate situations. The general formulae derived in the first sections of the paper are subsequently particularized introducing the dipole approximation in the relevant matrix elements describing the interaction between the atomic system and the radiation field. The final equations assume a quite compact expression by the introduction of suitable spherical tensors connected with the components of the polarization unit vectors associated with each direction of the radiation field. The general expressions and the main properties of these tensors are discussed in the Appendix.  相似文献

The influence of the momentum addition, which may be associated with the average or fluctuation transverse component of the magnetic field or others, on the acceleration the solar wind or stellar wind is studied in a local streamtube. The results show that the larger the momentum addition the stronger the acceleration of the wind. For example, if the typical transverse magnetic field is about 0.1 of the longitudinal field, the velocity of the solar wind at 1 AU may be increased by 40%. The coronal hole may be considered as a streamtube, the presence of a high stream from the coronal hole may be explained by the existence of an average or fluctuation transverse magnetic field in the streamtube. A similar conclusion may be applied to the polar region, where the velocity of the solar wind will be larger than elsewhere as if there is a transverse component of magnetic field, as well as to the stellar wind. The influence of other parameters on the acceleration of the solar wind is also discussed. From the viewpoint of the solar wind mechanism, the present paper shows that the momentum addition in the subsonic flow region can increase the velocity of the solar wind at 1 AU.  相似文献

We examine the hypothesis about the formation of meteor streams near the Sun. Families of short-perihelion orbit comets, many of which pass just a few radii from the solar surface at perihelion and have high dust production efficiencies, are assumed to be candidates for the parent bodies of these meteor streams. Our statistical analysis of orbital and kinematic parameters for short-perihelion meteoric particles recorded at the Earth and comets from the Kreutz family and the Marsden, Kracht, and Meyer groups led us to certain conclusions regarding the proposed hypothesis. We found a correlation between the ecliptic longitude of perihelion for comet and meteor orbits and the perihelion distance. This correlation may be suggestive of either a genetic connection between the objects of these two classes or the result of an as yet unknown mechanism that equally acts on short-perihelion comet and meteor orbits. A reliable conclusion about this genetic connection can be reached for the meteors that belong to the Arietids stream and the Marsden comet group.  相似文献

A model of protostar formation under two current carrying gas filaments collision is presented. The model implies MHD approach involving self-gravity and radiative cooling effects. We suppose that through the current carrying gas filament collision a magnetic field reconnection takes place. Using an appropriate self-consistent presentation for time and special dependences of physical quantities in MHD equations, we derive the full set of equations that describes time evolution of the physical quantities just after an occurrence of magnetic field reconnection. Numerical simulations reveal that the process consists of three main phases of evolution. The first is an appearance of preceding peaks in time profiles of density and temperature following by the next phase of depression of both temperature and density and the final fast condensation phase with either cooling or heating of matter depending on initial parameters of problem. Effects of initial conditions like as magnetic field strength, current strength, initial gravity energy, cooling time and a geometry of collision are investigated. Main conclusion is that protostar formation takes place within the time interval less than one free fall time and it is preceded by the appearance of dense and hot matter with lifetime much less than free fall time. The final temperature of the protostar depends on the physical conditions and mainly on the ratio between free fall time and cooling time in the colliding current carrying gas filaments.  相似文献

The applications of the spectral analysis methods discovered by Kirchhoff for the investigation of stellar magnetic fields are considered. The statistical properties of the mean magnetic fields for OBA stars have been investigated by analyzing data from two catalogs of magnetic fields. It is shown that the mean effective magnetic field ℬ of a star can be used as a statistically significant characteristic of its magnetic field. The magnetic field distribution functions F(ℬ) have been constructed for B-type and chemically peculiar (CP) stars, which exhibit a power-law dependence on ℬ. A sharp decrease in F(ℬ) in the range of weak magnetic fields has been found. The statistical properties of the magnetic fluxes for main-sequence stars, white dwarfs, and neutron stars are analyzed.  相似文献

We consider a number of questions pertaining to the famous Gnevyshev-Ohl rule. We discuss various formulations of the rule and show that it is not violated in its exact formulation in the last pair of 11-year cycles 22 and 23. The rule has been found to hold not only for statistical indices of solar activity but also in the context of physical parameters of the solar magnetic field: the sunspot magnetic flux and the open magnetic flux. We have established that the hypothesis by Usoskin et al. (2001) about the “loss“ of one cycle at the end of the 18th century allows the Gnevyshev-Ohl rule, which regulates the behavior of physical parameters of the solar magnetic field, to be made universal, without any exceptions, at least in the last 400 years. Thus, in fact, we can talk about the Gnevyshev-Ohl law of the long-term dynamics of the solar magnetic field, a law that holds at both normal and extreme levels of solar activity.  相似文献

The discrepancy between a long distance-scale derived from Hipparcos -based distances to globular clusters via main-sequence fitting to local subdwarfs, and a short distance-scale derived from the absolute magnitude of field RR Lyraes via statistical parallaxes and the Baade–Wesselink method could be accounted for whether an intrinsic difference of about ∼0.1–0.2 mag was found to exist between horizontal branch (HB) stars populating the sparse general field and the dense globular clusters. In this paper we discuss the possible existence of such a systematic difference comparing the period-shifts observed for field and cluster RR Lyraes. Various approaches based on different parameters and data sets for both cluster and field variables were used in order to establish the size of such a hypothetical difference, if any. We find that on the whole very small not significant differences exist between the period–metallicity distributions of field and cluster RR Lyraes, thus confirming with a more quantitative approach, the qualitative conclusions by Catelan . This observational evidence translates into a very small difference between the horizontal branch luminosity of field and cluster stars, unless RR Lyraes in globular clusters are about 0.06 M more massive than field RR Lyraes at same metallicity, which is to be proven.  相似文献

In this paper we analytically estimate the magnetic field scale of planets with physical core conditions similar to that of Earth from a statistical physics point of view. We evaluate the magnetic field on the basis of the physical parameters of the center of the planet, such as density, temperature, and core size. We look at the contribution of the Seebeck effect on the magnetic field, showing that a thermally induced electrical current can exist in a rotating fluid sphere. We apply our calculations to Earth, where the currents would be driven by the temperature difference at the outer-inner core boundary, Jupiter and the Jupiter’s satellite Ganymede. In each case we show that the thermal generation of currents leads to a magnetic field scale comparable to the observed fields of the considered celestial bodies.  相似文献

The proper motions and stellar magnitudes for more than 20 000 stars distributed in areas around eight open clusters in the directions of the Sagittarius-Carina and Perseus spiral arms were used to determine the cluster membership. Both spatial-kinematical and statistical criteria were used for member seletion. The luminosity functions of cluster members were constructed and used for the further data improvement. The safest portions of the luminosity function free both from evolved stars and faint field star contamination were used for mass function construction. The composite mass function was derived from the data on five young clusters with log t < 8.2. A dependence of the mass function slope on the adopted input parameters (mass-luminosity relation and distance scale) and on member selection procedure was tested. The slope was found to vary in a range from 1.36 to 1.80 for lg M/M⊙ between 0.3 and 1.2. A possible relation between the individual MF slopes and cluster ages was indicated. The results are in good agreement with published data.  相似文献

With increasingly large data sets, weak lensing measurements are able to measure cosmological parameters with ever-greater precision. However, this increased accuracy also places greater demands on the statistical tools used to extract the available information. To date, the majority of lensing analyses use the two-point statistics of the cosmic shear field. These can be either studied directly using the two-point correlation function or in Fourier space, using the power spectrum. But analysing weak lensing data inevitably involves the masking out of regions, for example to remove bright stars from the field. Masking out the stars is common practice but the gaps in the data need proper handling. In this paper, we show how an inpainting technique allows us to properly fill in these gaps with only   N log  N   operations, leading to a new image from which we can compute straightforwardly and with a very good accuracy both the power spectrum and the bispectrum. We then propose a new method to compute the bispectrum with a polar fft algorithm, which has the main advantage of avoiding any interpolation in the Fourier domain. Finally, we propose a new method for dark matter mass map reconstruction from shear observations, which integrates this new inpainting concept. A range of examples based on 3D N -body simulations illustrates the results.  相似文献
