We have obtained center-to-limb photoelectric spectra of the CN(1,1) B-X bandhead region λ3868–3872 Å at Kitt Peak National Observatory. From these spectra and a detailed analysis of the formation of the CN (1, 1) spectrum we derive a best-fit upper photospheric model differing from the HSRA which is consistent with our previous CN(0, 0) λ3883 spectra. We derive a solar carbon abundance of log A c = 8.30 ± 0.10 compared to the HSRA value of log A c = 8.55 ± 0.10. In addition we specify the regions of formation for the CN(0, 0) λ3883.35 and CN(1, 1) λ 3871.38 bandheads at disc center and limb.  相似文献

Spectroheliograms taken in the CN(0, 0) violet band near 3883 Å show very small scale network and cell structures with high contrast. The bandhead itself, which is a broad feature due to overlap of several CN lines, allows the diagnostic simplicity of a continuum since motions, magnetic fields, and broadening mechanisms are unimportant. We have obtained spectroheliograms in the bandhead and center-to-limb photoelectric spectra of CN(0, 0) at Kitt Peak National Observatory. From the photoelectric spectra and a detailed analysis of the formation of the CN(0, 0) spectrum we derive a best-fit one-component upper photospheric model differing from that of the HSRA and recommend a change in solar carbon abundance from the HSRA value of logA c = 8.55 to logA c = 8.25. The solar Nb abundance is derived from five Nb i and ten Nb ii lines in the photospheric spectrum. Equivalent widths are obtained from measurements on spectra recorded at Kitt Peak National Observatory. Synthetic spectrum calculations gave abundances of 2.23 and 2.08 from neutral and ionized lines respectively in the logarithmic A H = 12.00 scale. This gives an average abundance value of A Nb = 2.13 ± 0.10.  相似文献

Absorption band spectra of BH and BO have been searched for and not found in spectra of sunspots.Electronic oscillator strengths are available only for the A 1 -X 1 + system of the BH molecule. Eleven high-dispersion spectra of Venus, taken with blue Doppler shifts have enabled us to unmask the 7323.88 Å forbidden line of Ca ii from terrestrial absorption. We obtain an equivalent width of 7.4±0.4 mÅ for this line in integrated sunlight. Our value of W λ is smaller than previous values and much more accurate. The HSRA solar model gives a solar calcium abundance of A Ca = 6.21.  相似文献

Sunspot spectra for LiI 6708Å lines and for several FeI and CaI lines were obtained. Observations were performed in January and in August, 2011 using the TST-2 telescope with a charge-coupled camera at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory. The sunspot models were calculated by using the observing profiles of FeI and CaI lines. Lithium abundance was determined by using the calculated sunspot models and LiI 6708Å observed profiles; this equals log(N Li) = 0.98 and 0.95 (in the scale logA(H) = 12.0).  相似文献

Preliminary results of magnetic field measurements in small sunspots from spectrograms obtained with the aid of the McMath Solar Telescope at the Kitt Peak National Observatory are presented. The measured intensities are greater than or equal to about 1200 Gauss. Furthermore, a broadening of the Fei line 6302.508 Å was found in some places of intergranular space. Observations of a limb flare and an associated loop prominence were obtained in H with the 512 channel magnetograph of the Kitt Peak National Observatory. Simultaneous radial and torsional oscillations with a period near 75 s, wavelength of 37 000 km, and amplitude of 1–2 km s–1 were detected in the loop approximately 90 min before the onset of the flare. We interpret these coupled oscillations in terms of a kink instability of a current carrying flux tube. During a stay at the Kitt Peak National Observatory the writer has tried to find an influence of flare radiation on the high photospheric and low chromospheric lines of the area occupied by the flare. Observations have been made in the H region and in the region of the H and K lines. When flare emission is present in sunspots some of the faint (molecular) lines seem to be weakened. Forty-seven well exposed photographic plates of Venus which show the spectrum of the carbon dioxide band at 7820Å were obtained at Table Mountain Observatory in September and October 1972. These spectra showed a semiregular four-day variation in the CO2 abundance over the disk of the planet (Young et al., 1974). We also find evidence for temporal variations in the rotational temperature of this band and temperature variations over the disk. The two quantities, CO2 abundance and temperature, do not show any obvious relationship; however, an increase in the temperature usually is accompanied by a decrease in the abundance of CO2. The average temperature, found from a curve-of-growth analysis assuming a constant CO2 line width, is 249±1.4K (one standard deviation). This temperature is noticeably higher than the rotational temperature of 242±2K found for this same band in 1967 (Schorn et al., 1969) and of 242±1.2K in 1968–1969 (Young et al., 1971).  相似文献

Spatially resolved measurements of Saturn's reflectivity in the 6190-, 7250-, and 8996-Å methane bands are analyzed to determine cloud vertical structures in the Equatorial Zone, South Equatorial Belt, and North and South Temperate Regions near latitudes ±30°. Radiative transfer models are computed for a simple two-parameter structure. The parameters are A0, the methane column abundance in an aerosol-free layer at the top of the atmosphere, and A1, the specific abundance of methane in a semi-infinite homogeneous gas and cloud mixture deep in the atmosphere. For the Equatorial Zone, a model with A0 = 37 ± 3 m-am and A1 = 26 ± 2 m-am fits all three bands. For the North Temperate Region, a model with A0 = 39 m-am and A1 = 47 m-am comes close to fitting all three bands. For the South Equatorial Belt and South Temperate Region, a single A0 and A1 do not fit all three bands. The structure for the South Equatorial Belt resembles that for the North Temperate Region. The level where unit cloud optical depth occurs in the South Temperate Region is deeper than the corresponding level at other latitudes. Some suggestions are proposed to explain differences between model parameters derived using different absorption bands.  相似文献

A preliminary solar Mn abundance of logN(Mn) = 5.41 (logN(H) = 12.00) is derived on the basis of fitting theoretical line profiles which include hyperfine structure (HFS) broadening to the profiles of the 5394.7, 5432.6, and 5537.8 lines of Mn observed at the center of the solar disk with the double-pass spectrograph of the McMath solar telescope at Kitt Peak. Feature-to-feature identification is made on simultaneous Ca ii K-line spectrograms (SG) and K2v spectroheliograms (SHG). The line profiles in plages and in the network boundary nearly always have double-peaked reversal in the core, while those inside the cells present all possibilities: double-peaked, single-peaked on violet side, single-peaked on red side, and unreversed absorption. Statistics of the profiles in the quiet chromosphere show that 50% are K232 double-peaked, 20% are K2v single-peaked, 10% are K2r single-peaked, and 20% show only incipient reversal or even totally lack any reversal. We call attention to the nontrivial contribution of these absorption profiles which are formed in dark regions shown on SHG's.The physical conditions inferred from different kinds of profiles are briefly discussed.In part to be included in a dissertation to be submitted to the Graduate School, University of Maryland, by S. We present a relatively completeV-band light curve of SZ Psc for 1978 and a partial light curve for 1977. From the 1978 light curve we derive a new time of primary minimum, JD2443823.674±0.001, and a Russell-model solution,i=75°.8±0°.1,r h =0.096±0.003,r c =0.351±0.001, andL h =0.253±0.002. The hotter component of this system is a F5-8 main-sequence star, the cooler component a K3-4 star well above the main sequence. The system is detached with the larger component filling only 82% of its Roche lobe. The distortion wave in this RS CVn-type binary seems not to migrate regularly as do those in many other such systems, but rather seems to change phase and amplitude more erratically. Between 1977 and 1978 its phase stayed practically constant while its amplitude decreased by a factor of three. We discuss the implications of this behavior for the spot model of RS CVn-type activity. We find that the traditional comparison star for SZ Psc, HD 219018, is very likely a constant star contrary to a recent suggestion that it is variable. Observations of the Ca ii H, K, and infrared triplet lines are compared with theoretical predictions from the slab models of Heasley and Milkey (1976). While the theoretical models describe the hydrogen and helium emission spectra of quiescent prominences satisfactorily the predicted Ca ii lines are systematically too bright. High-resolution (0.1-Å) spectra of the 6815-Å band of methane are presented for Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Spectra for Uranus, Neptune, and the equatorial region of Saturn were acquired with the SPIFI (W. H. Smith, T. R. Hicks, and J. P. Born (1978). Proceedings of the 4th International Colloquium on Astrophysics, Triest, July 3–7, 1978. pp. 593–599) at the 2.2-m telescope of the Mauna Kea Observatory during May and June 1980. Additional spectra were obtained for Jupiter and the northern temperate and polar regions of Saturn in December 1980 and January 1981 from Kitt Peak National Observatory's McMath Solar Telescope. The spectra show a dichotomy in strength of methane absorption between Jupiter-Saturn and Uranus-Neptune. A simple model analysis, based on homogeneous scattering models, is unable to resolve whether this dichotomy is due to an actual increase in the methane mixing ratio with solar distance or to the temperature dependence of line strengths and absorption pathlengths in these atmospheres. If the rotational quantum number for the prominent 6818.9-Å feature is J < 4, then significant aerosol extinction must exist within the visibly accessible portion of Uranus' atmosphere for the methane mixing ratio to be greater than the solar value.  相似文献

A search has been carried out for the presence of rotational lines of two bands of the (0, 0) and (1, 1) A 1Π?–?X 1Σ+ system of the AlH molecule in the high resolution Fourier Transform Spectra of sunspots observed at the National Solar Observatory at Kitt Peak. Though the presence of the AlH molecule in sunspots was confirmed by Wallace, Hinkle, and Livingston (An Atlas of Sunspot Umbral Spectra in the Visible from 15?000 to 25?000 cm?1 (3920 to 6664 Å), Tech. Rep. 00-001, National Solar Observatory, Tucson, AZ, 2000), there is no report on the rotational temperature in the literature by identifying AlH molecular lines. The results obtained in this new search using a suitable identification technique are compared with the results reported by Wallace, Hinkle, and Livingston (2000). In view of the fact that the rotational temperatures of the molecules could be used to test photospheric and sunspot models, the effective rotational temperature for the (0, 0) band of the A?–?X system of AlH molecule is estimated by measuring the equivalent widths of well resolved spectral lines and its value justifies the existence of the AlH molecule in sunspots.  相似文献

Existing models of the solar atmosphere predict a limb brightening in the far infrared wavelengths. At shorter wavelengths this effect is confined to the extreme limb but at 25 it extends inward from the limb to cos = 0.3. Observations of I()/I(1.0) were made with the McMath Solar Telescope through atmospheric windows at 10.4, 17.9, 20.4, and 24.2 microns, respectively. The measurements, after having been smoothed, are compared with the theoretical predictions taking into account the diffraction pattern of the telescope. The published sunspot spectrum obtained with National Solar Observatory/Kitt Peak laboratory’s high signal to noise ratio telescope and high resolution Fourier Transform Spectrometer were used for the study. A search was made for the prominent lines of the (0, 0) and (1, 1) A2Δ − X2Π for Silicon hydride isotopomers which lie between 23500 cm−1 and 24500 cm−1. The presence of lines from the (0, 0) and (1, 1) A2Δ − X2Π transition of SiH molecule coincided with the sunspot umbral lines suggest that Silicon hydride appears to be a non-negligible component of sunspot umbrae. However, the presence of A2Δ − X2Π (0, 0) and (1, 1) bands of SiD was found to be doubtful because of the lack of number of well identified lines in sunspot umbral spectra. Equivalent widths have been measured for well-resolved lines and, thereby, the rotational temperatures have been estimated for the band systems for which the presence is confirmed.  相似文献
