Wind forcing of the oceans is analysed for a millennium-length period of a simulation with a global coupled model. The time mean value of the zonal wind energy input to the oceans was found to be 0.97?TW, similar to other estimates, with maximum inputs in the Southern Ocean and Equatorial Pacific Ocean. The meridional wind energy input was also evaluated. The time series of the zonal wind energy input consisted of white noise, with marked multiannual and multidecadal variability, and had a range of 1.6 between minimum and maximum values. Seasonal variations in the wind energy input were most marked in the Pacific Ocean. Composites of the various climatic terms involved in the wind energy input, for maximum and minimum values of the input time series, identified distinct differences in anomaly values, particularly over the Southern Ocean. The temporal variability of the Pacific equatorial wind energy input was clearly identified with ENSO events. The model reproduced the observed structure of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation surprisingly well. The time series of this circulation exhibited interannual to centennial variability. Correlations, both instantaneous and lagged, failed to identify any meaningful relationship between the temporal variability of the circulation and the wind energy input to the Southern Ocean. The optimum correlation was found between time smoothed versions of the time series for this circulation and the heat input to the North Atlantic Ocean, implying, as noted elsewhere, that this heat input is the principal driver of the temporal variability of the circulation.  相似文献

In this study, two modes of the Silk Road pattern were investigated using NCEP2 reanalysis data and the simulation produced by Spectral Atmospheric Circulation Model of IAP LASG, Version 2 (SAMIL2.0) that was forced by SST observation data. The horizontal distribution of both modes were reasonably reproduced by the simulation, with a pattern correlation coefficient of 0.63 for the first mode and 0.62 for the second mode. The wave train was maintained by barotropic energy conversion (denoted as CK) and baroclinic energy conversion (denoted as CP) from the mean flow. The distribution of CK was dominated by its meridional component (CK y ) in both modes. When integrated spatially, CK y was more efficient than its zonal component (CK x ) in the first mode but less in the second mode. The distribution and efficiency of CK were not captured well by SAMIL2.0. However, the model performed reasonably well at reproducing the distribution and efficiency of CP in both modes. Because CP is more efficient than CK, the spatial patterns of the Silk Road pattern were well reproduced. Interestingly, the temporal phase of the second mode was well captured by a single-member simulation. However, further analysis of other ensemble runs demonstrated that the successful reproduction of the temporal phase was a result of internal variability rather than a signal of SST forcing. The analysis shows that the observed temporal variations of both CP and CK were poorly reproduced, leading to the low accuracy of the temporal phase of the Silk Road pattern in the simulation.  相似文献

The performance of reanalysis-driven Canadian Regional Climate Model, version 5 (CRCM5) in reproducing the present climate over the North American COordinated Regional climate Downscaling EXperiment domain for the 1989–2008 period has been assessed in comparison with several observation-based datasets. The model reproduces satisfactorily the near-surface temperature and precipitation characteristics over most part of North America. Coastal and mountainous zones remain problematic: a cold bias (2–6 °C) prevails over Rocky Mountains in summertime and all year-round over Mexico; winter precipitation in mountainous coastal regions is overestimated. The precipitation patterns related to the North American Monsoon are well reproduced, except on its northern limit. The spatial and temporal structure of the Great Plains Low-Level Jet is well reproduced by the model; however, the night-time precipitation maximum in the jet area is underestimated. The performance of CRCM5 was assessed against earlier CRCM versions and other RCMs. CRCM5 is shown to have been substantially improved compared to CRCM3 and CRCM4 in terms of seasonal mean statistics, and to be comparable to other modern RCMs.  相似文献

基于数字高程模型(digital elevation model,DEM)高程数据和D8算法实现了湖南中小河流流域子流域划分。利用洪水预报网络传播模型,构建中小河流各子流域径流拓扑结构并提出了空间子流域等效面雨量的概念。基于等效面雨量序列和径流观测序列,构建了基于时空概念的隐马尔可夫降水-径流模型,并利用该模型计算了中小河流各子流域不同时间尺度条件下暴雨致灾临界面雨量阈值,最后利用2010—2015年实况资料对阈值进行检验,结果证明相比传统统计法,新方法的计算结果与传统方法结果一致且具有很好的准确性和稳定性。基于2015年6月的一次暴雨灾害预报,证明了该方法适应于业务化运行。  相似文献

利用Marr小波变换和交叉小波变换,对河南省近50年气温、Nin。海区KSTA、南方涛动指数SOI月平均距平序列进行了时频特征分析。结果表明:河南气温距平(△T)、海面温度距平(△Tss)以及南方涛动指数距平(△Iso)序列中都存在着不同时间尺度的周期分量,并且各周期分量具有不同的强度;河南省气温变化与ENSO振荡过程之间也存在着多尺度联系。  相似文献

一些研究认为,原观测场时间序列的第一特征向量场与时间平均场表现出强相似。经研究得出,原观测场时间序列的这两个统计场间存在本质差异。它们的相似性依赖于原观测场时间序列在相空间中的结构。时间平均场(气候场)与时间偏差(异常)场集的相对强弱在二者相似与否中起到重要作用。  相似文献

Output from a simulation with the CSIRO Mark 2 climatic model has been used to investigate the secular variability of tropical cyclone formation over the globe using Gray’s Seasonal Genesis Parameter. This simulation differs from previous surrogate studies in using a coupled atmospheric-oceanic model, instead of specified sea surface temperatures, as well as being of multi-millenial duration, compared with decadal length simulations used elsewhere. Mean climatological values for each season for a 5,000-year period indicate that the model replicated the broad patterns of spatial and temporal variability. Results are presented in some detail for three regions, the southwest and northwest Pacific Oceans and the low latitude North Atlantic Ocean. A marked range of temporal variabilities of surrogate tropical cyclone numbers was obtained in the simulation, possibly indicating that the present, observed increase in these numbers may not be outside that attributable to natural variability. The component terms of the Seasonal Genesis Parameter permit the contribution of individual climatic terms to the generation of tropical cyclones to be identified. This approach highlighted the important role of relative vorticity and relative humidity, in addition to the governing influence of vertical wind shear. The remote influence of ENSO, versus that of local sea surface temperature anomalies, on surrogate tropical cyclone numbers was examined and revealed different outcomes depending on the region under consideration. The global total of surrogate tropical cyclone numbers exhibited noticeable interannual variability. The simulation reproduced most of the observed correlations between tropical cyclones and relevant climatic variables, but many of the correlations were not stable within the 5,000-year time series used. This suggests that observed correlations based on, typically, 100-years or less of data may not be representative of possible future outcomes. With minor exceptions all climatological time series associated with the Seasonal Genesis Parameter were found to be Gaussian.  相似文献

The Regional Integrated Environmental Model System(RIEMS 2.0) with NCEP Reanalysis II is utilized to simulate the severe freezing rain and snow storm event over southern China in January 2008,which caused severe damage in the region.The relationships between the freezing rain process and the large-scale circulation,in terms of the westerly and low-level jets,water vapor transportation,and northerly wind area/intensity indices,were analyzed to understand the mechanisms of the freezing rain occurrence.The results indicate the following:(1) RIEMS 2.0 reproduced the pattern of precipitation in January 2008 well,especially for the temporal evolution of daily precipitation averaged over the Yangtze River valley and southern China;(2) RIEMS 2.0 reproduced the persistent trough in the South Branch of the westerlies,of which the southwesterly currents transported abundant moisture into southern China;(3) RIEMS 2.0 reasonably reproduced the pattern of frequencies of light and moderate rain,although it overestimated the frequency of rain in southern China.This study shows that RIEMS 2.0 can be feasibly applied to study extreme weather and climate events in East Asia.  相似文献

A disaggregation method used by the UK water industry to disaggregate simulated hourly data to the 5-min time-scale is examined using data from Heathrow (London). This analysis shows the shortcomings of this algorithm, both in reproducing the temporal structure of rainfall depths and generating extreme events. An alternative method is proposed, based upon a random cascade with a log-Poisson generator. This is a parsimonious model requiring only two parameters per season. It is shown to provide a clear improvement upon the existing disaggregator, both in terms of temporal structure and extreme behaviour. It could thus be a powerful tool for urban hydrology which requires data at fine time-scale for design purposes and simulation studies. The utility of such a tool depends upon its potential for operational use, i.e., for implementation without any fine-scale data. The model's performance is found to be maintained when hourly rainfall time series are the only available data.  相似文献

A numerical model of a non-stationary atmospheric planetary boundary layer (PEL) over a horizontally homogeneous flat surface is derived on the basis of similarity theory. The two most typical turbulence regimes are reproduced: one corresponding to a convectively growing PBL and another corresponding to a stably stratified quasi-equilibrium PBL. The PBL is treated as a unit. Hence, its evolution is characterized by temporal changes of intrinsic parameters, such as the PBL depth, the vertically averaged values of potential temperature, specific humidity and components of wind velocity, the near-surface values of heat, water vapor and momentum fluxes. The internal structure of the PBL is considered self-similar. This allows one to represent the interaction between the air flow and the underlying surface by means of universal heat/mass transfer and resistance laws. Numerical experiments on the diurnal variations of meteorological fields in the lower 2 km layer confirm the ability of the model to reproduce the main features of the phenomena, known from observations.On leave from: Insitute of Limnology, Academy of Sciences of the Russia, SU-196199, St. Petersburg, Russia.  相似文献

A new method of analysis namely, Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) is applied to the Indian Summer Monsoon (June-September) Rainfall (ISMR) series. The method is efficient in extracting the statistically significant oscillations with periods 2.8 and 2.3 year from the white noise of the ISMR series. The study shows that 2.8 / 2.3 year cycle captures the variability of the ISMR related to Southern Oscillation / Quasi Biennial Oscillation. The temporal structure of these oscillations show that these are in phase in extreme (excess and drought) monsoon conditions as well as in El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) years. Both these oscillations show minimum variability during the period 1920-1940 and there is an increasing trend in the variability of these oscillations in the recent decades. The study enables to obtain pure signal consisting of reconstructed time series using these two Oscillations, from the original white noise series.  相似文献

This study presents the characterization of regional means and variability of temperature and precipitation in 1961–2000 for Thailand using regional climate model RegCM3. Two fine-resolution (20 km) simulations forced by ERA-40 reanalysis data were performed, with the default land covers and with a land-cover modification strategy suggested by a previous work. The strategy was shown to substantially alleviate the problem of systematic underestimation of temperature given by the default simulation, for most part of Thailand in both dry and wet seasons. The degree of bias in precipitation tends to vary differently in every sub-region and season considered. The patterns of seasonal variation of both climatic variables are acceptably reproduced. Simulated 850-hPa winds have general agreement with those of ERA-40, but wind speed is overestimated over the Gulf of Thailand during the dry months, potentially bringing excessive moisture to and causing more rain than actual in the south. Long-term trends in temperature are reasonably predicted by the model while those in observed and simulated precipitations for upper Thailand are in the opposite directions. Apart from the conventional methods used in characterization, spectral decomposition using Kolmogorov–Zurbenko filters was applied to inspect the model’s capability of accounting for variability (here, in terms of variance) in both climatic variables on three temporal scales (short term, seasonal, and long term). The model was found to closely estimate the total variances in the original time series and fairly predict the relative variance contributions on all temporal scales. The latter finding is in line with the results from an additional spectral coherence analysis. Overall, the model was shown to be acceptably adequate for use in support of further climate studies for Thailand, and its evident strength is the capability of reproducing seasonal characteristics and, to a lesser degree, trends.  相似文献

静止气象卫星的快速区域扫描是监测不同天气过程的有利手段。以获取的风云静止气象卫星快速区域扫描数据为基础,选取2011年台风梅花(1109)及2012年台风海葵(1211)的观测数据,采用Hovm(o|¨)ller分析图、变异系数等参数,研究不同时空分辨率观测数据对台风云系结构特征参数监测的敏感性影响。分析结果表明:可见光通道10 min观测时间间隔配以1.25 km空间分辨率可以很好地反映云系演变特征,在相同观测时间分辨率条件下,降低空间分辨率会对云系结构特征的提取有较大影响;在相同空间分辨率条件下,观测时间分辨率的降低对云系结构及演变特征的分析影响较小;基于变异系数的分析说明云像元特性在60 min的观测时间间隔下发生了较大变化,如果以60 min为观测时间间隔将会失去较多的云像元变化特征。水汽通道不同观测时间的变异系数差值小于红外通道1,说明云像元在红外通道1的特性演变对观测时间的敏感性高于水汽通道,提高观测频率可获取更多的云像元红外通道1的辐射特性。  相似文献

 A comparison is made between modelled (NCEP/NCAR reanalysis) and observed (CRC and CRU dataset) annual and monthly precipitation over tropical Africa during the period 1958–1997. The split moving-windows dissimilarity analysis (SMWDA) is used to locate abrupt changes in rainfall time series. In the NCEP reanalysis data, we identify a main abrupt shift, which occurs in 1967 and concerns more than 50% of grid points. In the observation, this shift is only found over parts of tropical North Africa. Three other NCEP abrupt shifts (1975, 1983 and 1987) in the reanalysis shown by the SMWDA, each concerning about 20% of tropical Africa, are not identified in the observation. One hypothesis concerning the 1967 marked abrupt shift is a problem of data assimilation in the NCEP/NCAR model which generated artificial shifts in the time series. In view of this result, further comparisons have been restricted to the period 1968–1997. On a continental scale, while the CRC and NCEP mean seasonal rainfall patterns are almost the same, however, some regional features are not well reproduced. Using five regional rainfall indexes, the mean seasonal rainfall cycle is correctly reproduced, but the NCEP reanalysis generally underestimates the amounts during the rainy season. The NCEP reanalysis rainfall is closer to the observation when the region shows a single rainy season. The correlation values between NCEP and CRC interannual rainfall variations over the period 1968–1997 are very low and seldom significant. The NCEP four main structures of rainfall variability as deducted from rotated principal component analysis are not realistic at all and the associated time series are systematically dominated by a marked low-frequency variability not present in the observation. However, the main teleconnections between ENSO and African rainfall variations are fairly well reproduced, with a correct location of the main structures, but with lower correlation values than those found in the observation. Scenario-neutral response surfaces illustrate the sensitivity of a simulated natural system, represented by a specific impact variable, to systematic perturbations of climatic parameters. This type of approach has recently been developed as an alternative to top-down approaches for the assessment of climate change impacts. A major limitation of this approach is the underrepresentation of changes in the temporal structure of the climate input data (i.e., the seasonal and day-to-day variability) since this is not altered by the perturbation. This paper presents a framework that aims to examine this limitation by perturbing both observed and projected climate data time series for a future period, which both serve as input into a hydrological model (the HBV model). The resulting multiple response surfaces are compared at a common domain, the standardized runoff response surface (SRRS). We apply this approach in a case study catchment in Norway to (i) analyze possible changes in mean and extreme runoff and (ii) quantify the influence of changes in the temporal structure represented by 17 different climate input sets using linear mixed-effect models. Results suggest that climate change induced increases in mean and peak flow runoff and only small changes in low flow. They further suggest that the effect of the different temporal structures of the climate input data considerably affects low flows and floods (at least 21% influence), while it is negligible for mean runoff.  相似文献

This paper compares the performance of seven disaggregation models, based on various approaches and/or concepts, for the generation of 10-min time step rainfall series from hourly rainfall series. The so-called constant disaggregation model and a linear model based on the external temporal pattern of rainfall are first considered. The other models are stochastic: the first ones are based on a given probability density function applying for the 10-min rainfall amounts of the hour to disaggregate. This probability density function is either uniform or derived from the external temporal pattern of rainfall. The other stochastic models are scaling models using canonical or microcanonical multiplicative random cascades. The comparison of the models is based on their ability to reproduce some important statistical characteristics of the observed time series: variance, skewness coefficient, wet/dry properties of 10-min rainfall amounts; rainfall amounts quantiles for different return periods; autocorrelation of 10-min rainfall amounts. A continuous hydrological simulation is next applied to produce for each generated rainfall series a continuous discharge series used afterwards for a retention design. The ability of the different disaggregation models to produce rainfall time series resulting in the same retention design than the one obtained with the observed rainfall series is finally analysed. Deterministic models as well as simpler stochastic models have rather bad performances when compared to the others. Because it is non-conservative, the model based on a microcanonical random cascade performs also very poorly. It significantly overestimates all studied statistics. Models based on microcanonical random cascades achieve the best performance. They perform reasonably well for the reproduction of rainfall statistics and almost perfectly for the reproduction of runoff and storage design variables. Results finally highlight the interest of including in the disaggregation scheme information related to the external temporal pattern of rainfall.  相似文献

针对大连地区气象台站少,研究区域气候比较困难的实际,以大连地区7个气象台站作为基本站,以各自所辖的气象哨作为订正站.探讨适合大连地区月平均气温的短序列订正的简便实用方法.构建了12个气象哨与各自基本站之间月平均气温序列订正的一元线性回归方程和差值订正方程,并从统计学和订正误差的角度进行了比较分析.结果表明:两种方法的订正误差无显著性差异,均可以用于大连地区月平均气温的短序列订正.  相似文献

采用NCEP-NCAR再分析资料,分析了2006年4月29日登陆缅甸并造成云南省强降水过程的孟加拉湾风暴结构。并且利用美周新一代中尺度WRF(weather Researchand Forecast)模式对2006年4月28~30日云南强降水过程进行了数值模拟研究。结果表明:孟加拉湾风暴登陆前后结构具有明显变化,从基本对称结构演变为非对称结构,WRF模式较好地模拟出盂加拉湾风暴登陆前后环流场特征和风暴移动路径以及造成云南强降水雨带的分布特征。  相似文献
