Friedrichbeckeite is a new milarite-type mineral. It was found in a single silicate-rich xenolith from a quarry at the Bellerberg volcano near Ettringen, eastern Eifel volcanic area, Germany. It forms thin tabular crystals flattened on {0001}, with a maximum diameter of 0.6 mm and a maximum thickness of 0.1 mm. It is associated with quartz, tridymite, augite, sanidine, magnesiohornblende, enstatite, pyrope, fluorapatite, hematite, braunite and roedderite. Friedrichbeckeite is light yellow, with white to light cream streak and vitreous lustre. It is brittle with irregular fracture and no cleavage, Mohs hardness of 6, calculated density is 2.686 gcm?3. Optically, it is uniaxial positive with nω = 1.552(2) and nε = 1.561(2) at 589.3 nm and a distinct pleochroism from yellow (//ω) to light blue (//ε). Electron microprobe analyses yielded (wt.%): Na2O 2.73, K2O 4.16, BeO 4.67, MgO 11.24, MnO 2.05, FeO 1.76, Al2O3 0.15, SiO2 73.51, (Σ CaO, TiO2 = 0.06) sum 100.33 (BeO determined by LA-ICP-MS). The empirical formula based on Si = 12 is K0.87 Na0.86 (Mg1.57Mn0.28Fe0.24)Σ2.09 (Be1.83?Mg1.17)Σ3.00 [Si12O30], and the simplified formula can be given as K (□0.5Na0.5)2 (Mg0.8Mn0.1Fe0.1)2 (Be0.6?Mg0.4)3 [Si12O30]. Friedrichbeckeite is hexagonal, space-group P6/mcc, with a = 9.970(1), c = 14.130(3) Å, V = 1216.4(3) Å3, and Z = 2. The strongest lines in the X-ray powder diffraction pattern are (d in Å / I obs / hkl): 3.180 / 100 / 121, 2.885 / 70 / 114, 4.993 / 30 / 110, 4.081 / 30 / 112, 3.690 / 30 / 022. A single-crystal structure refinement (R1 = 3.62 %) confirmed that the structure is isotypic with milarite and related [12] C [9] B 2 [6] A 2 [4] T23 [[4] T112O30] compounds. The C-site is dominated by potassium, the B-site is almost half occupied by sodium, and the A-site is dominated by Mg. The site-scattering at the T2-site can be refined to a Be/(Be?+?Mg) value close to 0.61; the T1-site is occupied by Si. Micro-Raman spectroscopy reveals an increasing splitting of scattering bands around 550 cm?1 for friedrichbeckeite. The mineral can be classified as an unbranched ring silicate or as a beryllo-magnesiosilicate. With respect to the end-member formula K (□0.5Na0.5)2 Mg2 Be3 [Si12O30] friedrichbeckeite represents the Mg-dominant analogue of almarudite, milarite or oftedalite. The mineral and its paragenesis were formed during pyrometamorphic modifications of the silicate-rich xenoliths enclosed in Quaternary leucite-tephritic lava of the Bellerberg volcano. Holotype material of friedrichbeckeite has been deposited at the mineral collection of the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien, Austria. The mineral is named friedrichbeckeite in honour of the Austrian mineralogist and petrographer Friedrich Johann Karl Becke (1855–1931).  相似文献

Crystals of sodium trisilicate (Na2Si3O7) have been grown in the presence of melt at 9 GPa, 1200 °C using the MA6/8 superpress at Edmonton, and the X-ray structure determined at room pressure (R=2.0%). Na2Si3O7 is monoclinic with a=8.922(2) Å, b= 4.8490(5) Å, c=11.567(1) Å, β=102.64(1)° (C2/c), D x = 3.295 g·cm-3. Silicon occurs in both tetrahedral and octahedral coordination ([6]Si∶[4]Si = l∶2). The SiO4 tetrahedra form a diorthosilicate [Si2O7] group and are linked by the isolated SiO6 octahedra via shared corners into a framework of 6-membered ([4]Si-[4]Si-[6]Si[4]Si-[4] Si-[6]Si) and 4-membered ([4]Si-[6]Si-[4]Sr-[6]Si) rings: 〈[6]Si-O〉=1.789 Å, 〈[4]Si-O〉= 1.625 Å, [4]Si-O-[4]Si=132.9° and the bridging oxygen is overbonded (s = 2.22). Channels parallel to b-axis and [110] accommodate Na in irregular 6-fold coordination: 〈Na-O〉 = 2.511 Å.  相似文献

A new pyroxene with formula (Na0.86Mg0.14)(Mg0.57Ti0.43)Si2O6, synthesized in a high-pressure toroidal ‘anvil-with-hole’ apparatus at P = 7 GPa and T = 1700 °C, was characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. The compound was found to be monoclinic (R1 = 2.56 %), space group C2/c, with lattice parameters a = 9.687(2), b = 8.814(1), c = 5.290(1) Å, β = 107.853(2)°, V = 430.08(1) Å3. The coexistence of Mg and Ti4+ at the M1 site does not induce strong modifications either to the M1 site or to the adjacent M2 site. The Raman spectrum of synthetic Na–Ti-pyroxene was obtained for the first time and compared with that of Mg2Si2O6 (with very low concentrations of Na and Ti). The structural characterization of the Na–Ti–Mg-pyroxene is important, because the study of its thermodynamic constants provides new constraints on thermobarometry of the upper mantle assemblages.  相似文献

Microprobe analysis, single crystal X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy were applied on Fe-rich osumilite from the volcanic massif of Mt. Arci, Sardinia, Italy. Osumilite belongs to the space group P6/mcc with unit cell parameters a = 10.1550(6), c = 14.306(1) Å and chemical formula (K0.729)C (Na0.029)B (Si10.498 Al1.502)T1 (Al2.706 Fe 0.294 2+ )T2 (Mg0.735 Mn0.091 Fe 1.184 2+ )AO30. Structure refinement converged at R = 0.0201. Unit cell parameter a is related to octahedral edge length as well as to Fe2+ content, unlike the c parameter which does not seem to be affected by chemical composition. The determination of the amount of each element on the mineral surface, obtained through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy high-resolution spectra in the region of the Si2p, Al2p, Mg1s and Fe2p core levels, suggests that Fe presents Fe2+ oxidation state and octahedral coordination. Two peaks at 103.1 and 100.6 eV can be related to Si4+ and Si1+ components, respectively, both in tetrahedral coordination. The binding energy of Al2p, at 74.5 eV, indicates that Al is mostly present in the distorted T2 site, whereas the Mg peak at 1,305.2 eV suggests that this cation is located at the octahedral site. X-ray absorption at the Fe L2,3-edges confirms that iron is present in the mineral structure, prevalently in the divalent state and at the A octahedral site.  相似文献

The solubility of Tio2 in phlogopites has been experimentally determined in the system K2Mg6Al2Si6O20(OH)4-K2Mg4TiAl2Si6O20(OH)4-K2Mg5TiAl4Si4O20(OH)4 between 825–1300°C and 10–30 kbar under vapour absent conditions. Starting compositions lie along the join K2Mg6Al2Si6O20(OH)4-K2Mg4.5TiAl3Si5O20(OH)4 which represents a combination of the Mg[VI]2Si[IV] = Ti[VI]2Al[VI] and 2Mg[VI] = Ti[VI][VI] substitution mechanisms for Ti in phlogopites. The results of the experiments indicate a systematic increase in solubility of Ti with increasing temperature and decreasing pressure for given bulk Tio2 content. Under isobaric conditions high temperature Ti-saturated phlogopite breaks down to Ti-deficient phlogopite + rutile + vapour. Mass balance calculations suggest that the vapour phase may contain K2O dissolved in H2O and that the reaction is controlled by the vapour phase. Analyses of phlogopites coexisting with rutile and vapour can be represented in terms of the end-member components phlogopite [K2Mg6Al2Si6O20(OH)4], eastonite [K2Mg5Al4Si5O20(OH)4], an octahedral site deficient Ti-phlogopite (Ti-OSD) of composition K2(Mg4Ti□)Al2Si6)O20(OH)4, and Ti-eastonite [K2Mg5TiAl4Si4O20(OH)4]. With decreasing amounts of Ti in these phlogopites there is a decrease in the Ti-eastonite component and increase in the eastonite component. The general equation for the breakdown of Ti-phlogopite solid solution to Ti-free phlogopite + rutile + vapour is: 14 Ti-eastonite + 7 Ti-OSD ? 16 eastonite + 3 phlogopite + 21 rutile + 4 H2O + 2 K2O. Lack of knowledge of H2O and K2O activities in the vapour phase does not permit evaluation of thermodynamic constants for this reaction. The Ti solubility in phlogopites and hence its potential as a geothermobarometer under lower crustal to upper mantle conditions is likely controlled by common mantle minerals such as forsterite.  相似文献

The Fe-rich Li-bearing magnesionigerite-6N6S occurs in the Xianghualing tin-polymetallic ore field, Linwu County, Hunan Province, Peoples Republic of China. It was found near the outer contact zone of the Laizhiling granite body and in the Middle-Upper Devonian carbonate rocks of Qiziqiao Formation. The mineral formed during the skarn stage. Its empirical formula is Sn1.81Li0.67(Fe1.43Zn1.19 Mn0.41)Σ3.03(Al14.89Mg1.46 Ti0.11Si0.01)Σ16.47O30(OH)2. The structure for magnesionigerite-6N6S was solved and refined in space group R-3?m, with a?=?5.7144(8), c?=?55.446(11) Å, V?=?1568.0(4) Å3, to R1?=?0.0528. Based on the structural refinement of single crystal diffraction data the formula of magnesionigerite-6N6S is Sn1.80Li0.97(Fe1.89Zn0.91) Σ2.80 (Al14.60Mg1.63 Ti0.20)Σ16.43O30(OH)2 with Z?=?3. Fe-rich Li-bearing magnesionigerite-6N6S contains 0.74 wt.% Li2O. The idealized charge-balanced composition of magnesionigerite-6N6S may be expressed by bivalent and trivalent cations: (Mg2+)4(Al3+)18O30(OH)2. The simplified general formula for the 6N6S polysomes in the nigerite and högbomite groups can be given as A x B18-x O30(OH)2, x?=?~4, where A?=?Mg2+, Fe2+, Zn2+; B?=?Al3+, Sn4+, Ti4+, Li+, □.  相似文献

We present structural information obtained on spinel and alumina at high temperature (298-2400 K) using in-situ XANES at the Mg and Al K-edges. For spinel, [4](Alx,Mg1−x)[6](Al2−x,Mgx)O4, with increasing temperature, a substitution of Mg by Al and Al by Mg in their respective sites is observed. This substitution corresponds to an inversion of the Mg and Al sites. There is a significant change in the Al K-edge spectra between crystal and liquid, which can be attributed to a change of the [6]Al normally observed in corundum at room temperature, to a mixture of [6]Al-[4]Al in the liquid state. This conclusion is in good agreement with previous 27Al NMR experiments. Furthermore, both experiments at the Al and Mg K-edges are in good agreement with XANES calculation made using FDMNES code.  相似文献

A series of alumina-free micas was synthesized hydrothermally in the potassium-poor portion of the system K2O-MgO-SiO2-H2O. One end member of this series has the composition KMg2.5[Si4O10](OH)2, which, because of its octahedral occupancy, is intermediate between the dioctahedral and trioctahedral micas. From this end member a series of mica solid solutions extends towards more Mg-rich compositions. Single phase micas were obtained along the substitution line 2Mg for Si which appears to involve incorporation of part of the Mg in tetrahedral sites. It leads to a theoretical end member with a structural formula KMg3[Si3.5Mg0.5O10](OH)2. Solid solutions containing up to 75 mole % of this theoretical end member could be synthesized. The observed densities, water contents, and a one-dimensional Fourier synthesis are consistent with the assumed substitution. At 1 kb fluid pressure and 620° C the Si-rich end member KMg2.5[Si4O10](OH)2 decomposes to a more Mg-rich mica, the roedderite phase K2Mg5Si12O30, liquid, and H2O-rich vapor. With increasing Mg-content the thermal stability of the mica solid solutions increases up to 860°C at a composition of about K2O·6.2MgO·7.4SiO2·2H2O, i.e. KMg2.8[Si3.7Mg0.3O10](OH)2. This mica disintegrates directly into forsterite + liquid + H2O-rich vapor. The mica phase richest in Mg with a composition of about K2O·6.5MgO·7.25SiO2·2H2O, i.e. KMg2.875 [Si3.625Mg0.375O10](OH)2, breaks down at 765° C into forsterite, a more Si-rich mica, liquid, and H2O-rich vapor. This binary series of alumina-free micas forms a complete series of ternary solid solutions with normal phlogopite, KMg3[Si3AlO10](OH)2. Analyses of some natural phlogopites showing Si in excess of 3.0 (up to 3.18) per formula unit can be explained through this ternary miscibility range.  相似文献

?-Na2Si2O5, ζ-Na2Si2O5, Na2Si[Si2O7], and Na6Si3[Si9O27] have been synthesized using an MA6/8 superpress. Densification in high-pressure sodium silicates is effected largely by changes in packing. In the relaxed (1 bar) structures, cation polyhedra and thermal/displacement parameters are similar to those of low-pressure silicates, but the extra-framework cation positions are oversized. The two mixed [4]Si and [6]Si framework silicates of known structure (Na2Si[Si2O7] and Na6Si3[Si9O27]) belong to the limited homologous series Na2mSim[Sin–mO2n+m], with m<n. The structure-composition relationships of wadeite-type, A2Ge4O9-type, and Na6Si3[Si9O27] silicates and germanates depend on T-O distance and size of the large extra-framework cation. Characteristic features of the SiO4 tetrahedral units are present in micro-Raman spectra of mixed [4]Si and [6]Si framework silicates, but bands uniquely attributable to SiO6 octahedra are weak or obscured. However, [6]Si has a profound indirect influence on the Raman spectra, resulting in intense and complex low-frequency bands, assigned to symmetric bending modes with coupled displacements at both bridging oxygens and nonbridging oxygens bonded to [6]Si, and a shift to higher frequency and reduction in intensity of the high-frequency bands assigned to symmetric [4]Si-Onbr stretching vibrations. Raman spectroscopy does not appear to be a useful structural probe for small amounts of [6]Si in silicate glasses and melts.  相似文献

Na2MgSiO4 crystals prepared hydrothermally at 700° C and 3,000 atm are related to carnegieite with SG Pmn21, a=7.015(2), b=10.968(2), and c=5.260(1). Na conductivity in Na2MgSiO4 is 3.0×10?5 (ohm-cm)?1 at 300° C but can be raised to 1.1×10?3 (ohm-cm)?1 by creating Na vacancies in the composition Na1.9Mg0.9Al0.1O4. Na4Mg2Si3O10 is also a cristobalite-related carnegieite with the orthorhombic cell a=10.584(7), b=14.328(7), and c=5.233(5). The Na conductivity of Na4Mg2Si3O10 is 4.8×10?3 (ohm-cm)?1 at 300° C.  相似文献

Idiomorphic crystals of roedderite occur in melt-coated cavities of xenoliths of contact-altered quartz-sillimanite and quartz-feldspar gneisses which were ejected with the tephritic lava of the Bellerberg volcano. Physical and chemical properties of three different sets of crystals agree generally with those of roedderites from meteorites, in which so far the mineral had been found exclusively. In detail, however, there are characteristic chemical differences amongst the Eifel roedderites with one set of crystals matching closely the ideal formula (Na,K)2Mg5 Si12O30, a second set containing excess alkalies according to the substitution Na+0.5 Mg2+, and a third set richer in iron having an alkali deficiency following Fe3+Fe2++Na+.The terrestrial roedderites are considered to be precipitates from highly alkaline, MgSi-rich, but Aldeficient gas phases that evolved through contact heating of the gneisses by the tephrite magma.  相似文献

The crystal structure and chemical composition of a crystal of (Mg14?x Cr x )(Si5?x Cr x )O24 (x ≈ 0.30) anhydrous Phase B (Anh-B) synthesized in the model system MgCr2O4–Mg2SiO4 at 12 GPa and 1600 °C have been investigated. The compound was found to be orthorhombic, space group Pmcb, with lattice parameters a = 5.900(1), b = 14.218(2), c = 10.029(2) Å, V = 841.3(2) Å3 and Z = 2. The structure was refined to R 1 = 0.065 using 1492 independent reflections. Chromium was found to substitute for both Mg at the M3 site (with a mean bond distance of 2.145 Å) and Si at the octahedral Si1 site (mean bond distance: 1.856 Å), according to the reaction Mg2+ + Si4+ = 2Cr3+. Such substitutions cause a reduction in the volume of the M3 site and an increase in the volume of the Si-dominant octahedron with respect to the values typically observed for pure Anh-B and Fe2+-bearing Anh-B. Taking into account that Cr3+ is not expected to be Jahn–Teller active, it appears that both the Cr3+–for–Mg and Cr3+–for–Si substitutions in the Anh-B structure decrease the distortion of the octahedra. Electron microprobe analysis gave the Mg13.66(8)Si4.70(6)Cr0.62(4)O24 stoichiometry for the studied phase. The successful synthesis of this phase provides new information for the possible mineral assemblages occurring in the Earth’s deep upper mantle and shed new light on the so-called X discontinuity that has been observed at 275–345 km depth in several subcontinental and subduction zone environments.  相似文献

Tremolite (CaxSr1–x)2Mg5[Si8O22/(OH)2] and diopside (CaxSr1–x)Mg[Si2O6] solid solutions have been synthesized hydrothermally in equilibrium with a 1 molar (Ca,Sr)Cl2 aqueous solution at 750°C and 200 MPa. The solid run products have been investigated by optical, electron scanning and high resolution transmission electron microscopy, electron microprobe, X-ray-powder diffraction and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The synthesized (Ca,Sr)-tremolites are up to 2000 µm long and 30 µm wide, the (Ca,Sr)-diopsides are up to 150 µm long and 20 µm wide. In most runs the tremolites and diopsides are well ordered and chain multiplicity faults are rare. Nearly pure Sr-tremolite (tr0.02Sr-tr0.98) and Sr-diopside (di0.01Sr-di0.99) have been synthesized. A continuous solid solution series, i.e. complete substitution of Sr2+ for Ca2+ on M4-sites exists for (Ca,Sr)-tremolite. Total substitution of Sr2+ for Ca2+ on M2-sites can be assumed for (Ca,Sr)-diopsides. For (Ca,Sr)-tremolites the lattice parameters a, b and β are linear functions of composition and increase with Sr-content whereas c is constant. For the diopside series all 4 lattice parameters are a linear function of composition; a, b, c increase and β decreases with rising Sr-content. The unit cell volume for tremolite increases 3.47% from 906.68 Å3 for tremolite to 938.21 Å3 for Sr-tremolite. For diopside the unit cell volume increases 4.87 % from 439.91 Å3 for diopside to 461.30 Å3 for Sr-diopside. The observed splitting of the OH stretching band in tremolite is caused by different configurations of the next nearest neighbors (multi mode behavior). Resolved single bands can be attributed to the following configurations on the M4-sites: SrSr, SrCa, CaCa and CaMg. The peak positions of these 4 absorption bands are a linear function of composition. They are shifted to lower wavenumbers with increasing Sr-content. No absorption band due to the SrMg configuration on the M4-site is observed. This indicates a very low or negligible cummingtonite component in Sr-rich tremolites, which is also supported by electron microprobe analysis.  相似文献

The structure of phase F, a non-stoichiometric hydrous silicate synthesized in a uniaxial, split-sphere, multi-anvil apparatus at conditions of 17 GPa and 1000° C, has been solved and refined in space group P63cm, using synchrotron X-ray data for a single crystal of a size 18 × 24 × 30 μm. The composition and unit cell for phase F are Mg3.35Si5.51H7.26O18, a=5.073(3) Å, c=14.013(9) Å, 7= 312.3(5) Å3. The structure contains layers with many similarities to superhydrous phase B. The layers of oxygen atoms are stacked in the ABCBAC-type double cubic closest packing arrangement. The bulk modulus of phase F was estimated from the structural and compositional relationship to superhydrous phase B and periclase.  相似文献

Amphiboles were synthesized from bulk compositions prepared along the join Ca1.8Mg5.2Si8O22(OH)2–Ca1.8Mg3Ga4Si6O22(OH)2 hydrothermally at 750–850 °C and 1.0–1.8 GPa, and along the join Ca2Mg5Si8O22F2–Ca2Mg3Ga4Si6O22F2, anhydrously at 1000 °C and 0.7 GPa to document how closely the tschermak-type substitution is obeyed in these analogues of aluminous amphiboles. Electron-microprobe analyses and Rietveld X-ray diffraction structure refinements were performed to determine cation site occupancies. The extent of Ga substitution was found to be limited in both joins, but with the fluorine series having about twice the Ga content (0.6 atoms per formula unit, apfu) of the hydroxyl-series amphiboles (0.3 apfu). The tschermak-type substitution was followed very closely in the hydroxyl series with essentially equal partitioning of Ga between tetrahedral and octahedral sites. The fluorine-series amphiboles deviated significantly from the tschermak-type substitution and, instead, appeared to follow a substitution that is close to a Ca-pargasite substitution of the type: [6]Ga3++2[4]Ga3++1/2[A] Ca2+ = [6]Mg2++2[4]Si4++1/2[A]□. Infrared spectroscopy revealed an inverse correlation between the intensity of the OH-stretching bands and the Ga content for the hydroxyl- and fluorine-series amphiboles. The direct correlation between the Ga and F content and inverse relationship between the Ga and OH content may be a general phenomenon present in other minerals and suggests, for example, that high F contents in titanite are controlled by the Al content of the host rock and that there may be similar direct Al–F correlations in tschermakitic amphiboles. Evidence for the possibility that Al (Ga) might substitute onto only a subset of the tetrahedral sites in tschermakitic amphiboles was sought but not observed in this study. The crystal structure of the rare secondary mineral cualstibite-1M (formerly cyanophyllite), originally reported to have the chemical formula 10CuO·2Al2O3·3Sb2O3·25H2O and orthorhombic symmetry, was solved from single-crystal intensity data (Mo- X-radiation, CCD area detector, 293 K, 2θmax?=?80) collected on a twinned crystal containing very minor Mg. The mineral is monoclinic, P21/c (no. 14), with a?=?9.938(1), b?=?8.890(1), c?=?5.493(1) Å, β?=?102.90(1)°, V?=?473.05(11) Å3; R1(F)?=?0.0326. All crystals investigated turned out to be non-merohedric twins. The atomic arrangement has a distinctly layered character. Brucite-like sheets composed of two [4?+?2]-coordinated (Cu,Al,Mg) sites are linked by weak hydrogen-bonding (O···O?~?2.80 Å) to isolated regular Sb(OH)6 octahedra (<Sb-O>?=?1.975 Å). The layered, pseudotrigonal character explains the perfect cleavage and the proneness to twinning. The Sb site is fully occupied and the two (Cu,Al,Mg) sites have occupancies of Cu0.79Al0.17Mg0.04 and Cu0.72Al0.23Mg0.05. The Cu-richer site shows a slightly stronger Jahn-Teller-distortion. The resulting empirical formula, which necessitates a H2O-for-OH substitution to obtain charge balance, is (Cu2.23Al0.63Mg0.14)(OH)5.63(H2O)0.37[Sb5+(OH)6]. The ideal chemical formula is (Cu,Al)3(OH)6[Sb5+(OH)6], with Cu:Al = 2:1. The structure is closely related to those of trigonal cualstibite-1T [Cu2AlSb(OH)12, P-3, with ordered Cu-Al distribution in the brucite sheets], and its Zn analogue zincalstibite-1T [Zn2AlSb(OH)12]. Cualstibite-1M and cualstibite-1T are polytypes and, together with zincalstibite-1T, zincalstibite-9R and omsite, belong to the cualstibite group within the hydrotalcite supergroup, which comprises all natural members of the large family of layered double hydroxides (LDH).  相似文献

Mont Semiol (also called Mont Semiouse), Montbrison, Loire, France, is the only place where the zeolite offrettite is known to occur. Now, a new mineral, Mazzite, has been found in the same locality. It occurs in the form of tiny needles, and its properties closely match those of the synthetic “molecular sieve” Ω. The chemical formula is Na0.03K1.91Ca1.35Mg1.99[Al9.77Si26.54O72]·28.03 H2O. Lattice dimensions are a=18.392 Å, c=7.646 Å, with P 63/mmc as most probable space group; Dcalc.=2.108. Offrettite and mazzite occur in association with phillipsite, chabazite, calcite and siderite. The mineral has been so named in honour of Prof. Fiorenzo Mazzi.  相似文献

Examination of schorlomite from ijolite at Magnet Cove (USA) and silicocarbonatite at Afrikanda (Russia), using electron-microprobe and hydrogen analyses, X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy, shows the complexity of substitution mechanisms operating in Ti-rich garnets. These substitutions involve incorporation of Na in the eightfold-coordinated X site, Fe2+ and Mg in the octahedrally coordinated Y site, and Fe3+, Al and Fe2+ in the tetrahedrally coordinated Z site. Substitutions Ti4+Fe3+Fe3+–1Si–1 and Ti4+Al3+Fe3+–1Si–1 are of major significance to the crystal chemistry of schorlomite, whereas Fe2+ enters the Z site in relatively minor quantities (<3% Fe). There is no evidence (either structural or indirect, such as discrepancies between the measured and calculated Fe2+ contents) for the presence of [6]Ti3+ or [4]Ti4+ in schorlomite. The simplified general formula of schorlomite can be written as Ca3Ti4+2[Si3-x(Fe3+,Al,Fe2+)xO12], keeping in mind that the notion of end-member composition is inapplicable to this mineral. In the published analyses of schorlomite with low to moderate Zr contents, x ranges from 0.6 to 1.0, i.e. Ti4+ in the Y site is <2 and accompanied by appreciable amounts of lower-charged cations (in particular, Fe3+, Fe2+ and Mg). For classification purposes, the mole percentage of schorlomite can be determined as the amount of [6]Ti4+, balanced by substitutions in the Z site, relative to the total occupancy in the Y site: ([6]Ti4+[6]Fe2+[6]Mg2+[8]Na+)/2. In addition to the predominant schorlomite component, the crystals examined in this work contain significant (>15 mol.%) proportions of andradite (Ca3Fe3+2Si3O12), morimotoite (Ca3Fe2+TiSi3O12), and Ca3MgTiSi3O12. The importance of accurate quantitative determination and assignment of Fe, Ti and other cations to the crystallographic sites for petrogenetic studies is discussed.

Pale-blue to pale-green tourmalines from the contact zone of Permian pegmatites to mica schists and marbles from different localities of the Austroalpine basement units (Rappold Complex) in Styria, Austria, are characterized. All these Mg-rich tourmalines have small but significant Li contents, up to 0.29 wt% Li2O, and can be characterized as dravite, with FeO contents of ?~?0.9–2.7 wt%. Their chemical composition varies from X (Na0.67Ca0.19?K0.02?0.12) Y (Mg1.26Al0.97Fe2+ 0.36Li0.19Ti4+ 0.06Zn0.01?0.15) Z (Al5.31?Mg0.69) (BO3)3 Si6O18 V (OH)3? W [F0.66(OH)0.34], with a?=?15.9220(3), c?=?7.1732(2) Å to X (Na0.67Ca0.24?K0.02?0.07) Y (Mg1.83Al0.88Fe2+ 0.20Li0.08Zn0.01Ti4+ 0.01?0.09) Z (Al5.25?Mg0.75) (BO3)3 Si6O18 V (OH)3? W [F0.87(OH)0.13], with a?=?15.9354(4), c?=?7.1934(4) Å, and they show a significant Al-Mg disorder between the Y and the Z sites (R1?=?0.013–0.015). There is a positive correlation between the Ca content and?<?Y-O?>?distance for all investigated tourmalines (r?≈?1.00), which may reflect short-range order configurations including Ca and Fe2+, Mg, and Li. The tourmalines have XMg (XMg?=?Mg/Mg?+?Fetotal) values in the range 0.84–0.95. The REE patterns show more or less pronounced negative Eu and positive Yb anomalies. In comparison to tourmalines from highly-evolved pegmatites, the tourmaline samples from the border zone of the pegmatites of the Rappold Complex contain relatively low amounts of total REE (~8–36 ppm) and Th (0.1–1.8 ppm) and have low LaN/YbN ratios. There is a positive correlation (r?≈?0.91) between MgO of the tourmalines and the MgO contents of the surrounding mica schists. We conclude that the pegmatites formed by anatectic melting of mica schists and paragneisses in Permian time. The tourmalines crystallized from the pegmatitic melt, influenced by the metacarbonate and metapelitic host rocks.  相似文献

Growing recognition of triple-chain silicates in nature has prompted experimental research into the conditions under which they can form and the extent of solid solution that is feasible for some key chemical substitutions. Experiments were done primarily in the range of 0.1–0.5 GPa and 200–850 °C for durations of 18–1,034 h. A wide range of bulk compositions were explored in this study that can be classified broadly into two groups: those that are Na free and involve various possible chemical substitutions into jimthompsonite (Mg10Si12O32(OH)4), and those that are Na bearing and involve chemical substitutions into the ideal end-member Na4Mg8Si12O32(OH)4. Numerous attempts to synthesize jimthompsonite or clinojimthompsonite were unsuccessful despite the type of starting material used (reagent oxides, magnesite + SiO2, talc + enstatite, or anthophyllite). Similarly, the chemical substitutions of F for OH, Mn2+, Ca2+, or Fe2+ for Mg2+, and 2Li+ for Mg2+ and a vacancy were unsuccessful at nucleating triple-chain silicates. Conversely, nearly pure yields of monoclinic triple-chain silicate could be made at temperatures of 440–630 °C and 0.2 GPa from the composition Na4Mg8Si12O32(OH)4, as found in previous studies, though its composition is most likely depleted in Na as evidenced by electron microprobe and FTIR analysis. Pure yields of triple-chain silicate were also obtained for the F-analog composition Na4Mg8Si12O32F4 at 550–750 °C and 0.2–0.5 GPa if a flux consisting of Na-halide salt and water in a 2:1 ratio by weight was used. In addition, limited chemical substitution could be documented for the substitutions of 2 Na+ for Na+ + H+ and of Mg2+ + vacancy for 2Na+. For the former, the Na content appears to be limited to 2.5 cations giving the ideal composition of Na2.5Mg8Si12O30.5(OH)5.5, while for the latter substitution the Na content may go as low as 1.1 cations giving the composition Na1.1Mg9.4Si12O31.9(OH)4.1 based on a fixed number of Si cations. Further investigation involving Mg for Na cation exchange may provide a pathway for the synthesis of Na-free clinojimthompsonite. Fairly extensive solid solution was also observed for triple-chain silicates made along the compositional join Na4Mg8Si12O32(OH)4–Ca2Mg8Si12O32(OH)4 where the limit of Ca substitution at 450 °C and 0.2 GPa corresponds to Na0.7Ca1.8Mg7.8Si12O31.9(OH)4.1 (with the OH content adjusted to achieve charge balance). Aside from the Na content, this composition is similar to that observed as wide-chain lamellae in host actinolite. The relative ease with which Na-rich triple chains can be made experimentally suggests that these phases might exist in nature; this study provides additional insights into the range of compositions and formation conditions at which they might occur.  相似文献
