The 30th International Geographical Congress (IGC) was held on August 16-20 in Glasgow, the United Kingdom. Approximately 2000 geographers from more than 80 countries and regions participated in the IGC. The 32nd International Geographical Congress (IGC) was held on August 26-30 in Cologne, Germany. About 3000 geographers from countries and regions across the world participated in the IGC, which caused an unprecedented number of attendees in the history of IGU. Organized by The Geographical Society of China (GSC), China had a record over 100 geographers to this congress, including Academician Qin Dahe, Vice President of IGU, and Academician Liu Changming, former Vice President of IGU.

The 31 st International Geographical Congress （IGC） was held on August 12-15 in Tunis, the Republic of Tunisia. It enjoyed the support of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technology of Tunisia, and was backed by various other ministerial departments and academic and research institutions in Tunisia. International Forum on Development and Application of Geographical Sciences: A Retrospect for the Past Three Decades and Prospect was held in Guangzhou University on 19-22, December, 2008. It was sponsored by Guangzhou University, The Geographical Society of China, and Guangdong Geographical Society. More than 200 geographers and graduate students participated in this forum from more than 140 institutions throughout the world, including USA, UK, Australia and across the Taiwan Straits.     

中国地理科学进展与展望——与美国地理学战略方向的比较(英文)

Understanding the Changing Planet: Strategic Directions for the Geographical Sciences(UCP),published by the National Research Council(USA),and its comments in The Professional Geographer propose that uppercase and plural "Geographical Sciences"(GS) is the strategic direction for geography in the next decade for better understanding of our rapidly changing planet. According to these comments,UCP valued technologies and tools excessively("task"),and did not pay much attention to methodology("discipline"). Actually,both"task" and "discipline" are geographical wings,especially in the time of "big science".Enlightenment from UCP and its comments is the strategic direction that should be balanced between "task" and "discipline",GS should be a three-dimensional construct of a disciplinary system,methodology,and technologies and tools,and this system should be scientific humanism based on scientific spirit and directed by humanism. During the last 60 years,Chinese geographers devoted themselves to GS,including practice and theory. Obviously progress and outlook are proposed as interdisciplinary GS,Earth Surface Sciences(ESS) and Geographical Construction(GC). The disciplinary system of GS is very complex,and is composed of such human knowledge domains as sciences,technologies,engineering,and philosophy. The main mission is to research the open,complex,and macro earth system(not only scientifically,but also humanistically),and one significant methodology is "comprehensive integration of qualitative and quantitative means"(CIQQM). At the same time,another changing direction in Chinese geography is Human-Economic Geography(HEG).

2020 Top 10 Research Achievements of Chinese Geography Unveiled

正The Geographical Society of China(GSC) Annual Spring Conference 2021 Chinese Geography Editing and Publishing Conference was held from May 28~(th) – 30~(th), 2021 in Xi'an, China. The Journal of Chinese Geography will be changed into Journal of Geographical Sciences in 2001 to correspond to the merge of the Institute of Geography with Commission for Integrated Survey of Natural Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) which is now the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS. 中国经济地理学研究进展（英文）

Economic geography in China's mainland has developed in a different way from that in many other countries. On the one hand, it has been increasingly active in participating in academic dialogues and knowledge development led by Anglophone countries; on the other hand, it takes practice-based and policy-oriented research, i.e. satisfying the demands from the Chinese government and society, as the linchpin of research. Since there has been a lot of literature reviewing the development of economic geography in the country before the new millennium, this paper will make a comprehensive analysis of the discipline in 2000–2015, based on a bibliometric survey and research projects done by Chinese economic geographers. The analysis indicates that(1) economic geography research in China's mainland is unevenly distributed but concentrated in several leading institutions;(2) traditional research fields like human-nature system, regional disparity, industrial location and transportation geography remain dominant while new topics such as globalization, multinational corporations and foreign direct investments, information and communication technology, producer services, climate change and carbon emission emerge as important research areas;(3) Chinese economic geography is featured by policy-oriented research funded by government agencies, having considerable impacts on regional policy making in China, both national and regional. To conclude, the paper argues that the development of economic geography in China's mainland needs to follow a dual track in the future, i.e. producing knowledge for the international academic community and undertaking policy-oriented research to enhance its role as a major consulting body for national, regional and local development.

The 2008 Annual Meeting of the Geographical Society of China （GSC） was held on July 13-15 in Changchun, Jilin Province of Northeast China. A total of over 1000 geographical researchers and educators from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Australia participated in this meeting. More than 400 papers were submitted and discussed during this academic meeting. This meeting was co-sponsored by the GSC, Northeast Institute of Geography and Agricultural Ecology （NEIGAE） under the CAS, Northeast Normal University, and Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research （IGSNRR） under the CAS. As an important part of the 2008 annual meeting, the 3rd Annual Academic Conference on Geography for Postgraduates was given a response from more than 200 postgraduates in universities and academic institutions.

国际地理联合会区域会议在智利圣地亚哥召开(英文)

The IGU Regional Conference (UGI 2011) was held on November 14-18, 2011 in Santiago, Chile. It was organized by the Military Geographic Institute (IGM). Nearly 1000 geographers across the world participated in this event. The Geographical Society of China (GSC) sent a delegation consisting of more than 40 members to attend the conference.

2019年亚洲地理大会理事会在北京召开

On November 1st,2019,Council Meeting of the Asian Geographical Association(AGA)was held at Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing,China.The meeting was chaired by Prof.Dahe Qin,who is President of the Asian Geographical Association,Director of Academic Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Former Administrator of China Meteorological Administration.At first,he extended his warm welcome to all the participants present and gave a brief review on the establishment of the Asian Geographical Association.Then,he introduced invited guests and representatives from member organizations of AGA and announced the agenda of the meeting.
