We present the results of our stellar photometry and spectroscopy for the new Local Group galaxy VV124 (UGC4879) obtainedwith the 6-m BTAtelescope. The presence of a fewbright supergiants in the galaxy indicates that the current star formation process is weak. The apparent distribution of stars with different ages in VV 124 does not differ from the analogous distributions of stars in irregular galaxies, but the ratio of the numbers of young and old stars indicates that VV 124 belongs to the rare Irr/Sph type of galaxies. The old stars (red giants) form the most extended structure, a thick disk with an exponential decrease in the star number density to the edge. Definitely, the young population unresolvable in images makes a great contribution to the background emission from the central galactic regions. The presence of young stars is also confirmed by the [OIII] emission line visible in the spectra that belongs to extensive diffuse galactic regions. The mean radial velocity of several components (two bright supergiants, the unresolvable stellar population, and the diffuse gas) is υ h = −70 ± 15 km s−1 and the velocity with which VV 124 falls into the Local Group is υ LG = −12 ± 15 km s−1. We confirm the distance to the galaxy (D = 1.1 ± 0.1 Mpc) and the metallicity of red giants ([Fe/H] = −1.37) found by Kopylov et al. (2008). VV 124 is located on the periphery of the Local Group approximately at the same distance from M31 and our Galaxy and is isolated from other galaxies. The galaxy LeoA nearest to it is 0.5 Mpc away.  相似文献

Photoelectric Vilnius seven-color photometry is presented and analyzed for a sample of 24 red giant branch and clump stars in the open cluster NGC 7789. For each star we have determined photometric spectral type, absolute magnitude, interstellar reddening, effective temperature, metallicity, and surface gravity. From averages over the stars in the sample we find the mean reddening to the cluster E YV = 0.21± 0.02 (s.d.), or E BV = 0.25, and the apparent distance modulus (mM) V = 12.21± 0.10 (s.d.), which yield a distance of 1840 pc. The mean overall metallicity is found to be [Fe/H] = −0.18± 0.09 (s.d.). The clump stars, on average, appear to be slightly more metal-rich than the other red giants, which is most probably caused by evolutionary changes of carbon and nitrogen molecular bands falling in the photometric passbands. A difference in mass between the two groups of stars has also been detected, which suggests that the clump stars might have undergone extra mass loss before reaching their core He-burning phase of evolution.  相似文献

Summary In this paper the results of the research of the stars proper motions Trapezium components are reported. They are: the galactic coordinates of the solar aprx and the Sun velocity (L =43±18°,B =+28±13°,V =13±4 km s−1), the dispersion of peculiar velocities in the direction of the galactic coordinates for the above mentioned stars (σ l =±11 km s−1, σ b =±7 km s−1).The attained accuracy of the proper motions (±0.005″ yr−1) is shown to be insufficient to the study of internal space motions in these systems. At present the work to increase the relative proper motions accuracy for multiple system components and to improve reductions from the relative to absolute proper motions, is being carried out in the Main Astronomical Observatory (Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR). The new catalogue of the AGK3 stars is composed now in the vicinity of the galactic equator in order to improve reductions from the relative to absolute proper motions. The r.m.s. errors of the proper motions, obtained in the AGK3 system, are ±0.005″ yr−1.  相似文献

The status of the Galactic thick disk is reviewed. Consideration of the recent literature suggests that its vertical scale height and normalisation with respect to the thin disk remain uncertain to within a factor two, with values reported in the ranges 750–1500 pc, and 0.02–0.13, respectively. The bulk of the thick disk has kinematics (σU, σV, σW) = (65, 54, 38 km s-1), and lags the thin disk by some 40 km s-1; differences of opinion exists as to whether kinematics change with distance from the Galactic plane. The bulk of the thick disk has [Fe/H] ∼ −0.6, with little or no evidence for a vertical gradient. The question of gradients is critical for an understanding of thick disk cosmogony and needs closer attention. The reality of the so-called metal-weak thick disk (material having disklike kinematics and [Fe/H] ≤ −1.0) is also considered. The case for such material seems to be steadily growing: in the range −1.6 ≤ [Fe/H] ≤ −1.0, recent estimates suggest ρMWTDHalo ∼ 0.1-0.3. While many workers regard the thick disk as a discrete entity, the caveat is made that this is a sufficient condition, but not one necessarily required by the observations. Best practice requires that both the discrete model and the alternative extended configuration be compared with observational data to examine the relative likelihood of their relevance. Recent theoretical advances are also discussed, together with the need for in situ measurements of the thick disk away from the Galactic plane. Early-Type Stars
Away from the young disk, several classes of early type stars are found. They include (i) the old, metal-poor blue horizontal branch stars of the halo and the metal-poor tail of the thick disk; (ii) metal-rich young A stars in a rapidly rotating subsystem but with a much higher velocity dispersion than the A stars of the young disk, and (iii) a newly discovered class of metal-poor young main sequence A stars in a subsystem of intermediate galactic rotation (Vrot ≈ 120 km s−1). The existence and kinematics of these various classes of early type stars provide insight into the formation of the metal-poor stellar halo of the Galaxy and into the continuing accretion events suffered by our Galaxy. ISOGAL is a survey at 7 and 15 μm with ISOCAM of the inner galactic disk and bulge of our Galaxy. The survey covers ∼ 22 deg2 in selected areas of the centrall = ±30 degree of the inner Galaxy. In this paper, we report the study of a small ISOGAL field in the inner galactic bulge (l = 0°,b = −1°, area = 0.033deg2). Using the multicolor nearinfrared data (IJKs) of DENIS (DEep Near Infrared Southern Sky Survey) and mid-infrared ISOGAL data, we discuss the nature of the ISOGAL sources. The various color-color and color-magnitude diagrams are discussed in the paper. While most of the detected sources are red giants (RGB tip stars), a few of them show an excess in J-Ks and Ks-[15] colors with respect to the red giant sequence. Most of them are probably AGB stars with large mass-loss rates.  相似文献

We analyze the three-dimensional kinematics of about 82 000 Tycho-2 stars belonging to the red giant clump (RGC). First, based on all of the currently available data, we have determined new, most probable components of the residual rotation vector of the optical realization of the ICRS/HIPPARCOS system relative to an inertial frame of reference, (ω x , ω y , ω z ) = (−0.11, 0.24, −0.52) ± (0.14, 0.10, 0.16) mas yr−1. The stellar proper motions in the form μα cos δ have then be corrected by applying the correction ω z = −0.52 mas yr−1. We show that, apart from their involvement in the general Galactic rotation described by the Oort constants A = 15.82 ± 0.21 km s−1 kpc−1 and B = −10.87 ± 0.15 km s−1 kpc−1, the RGC stars have kinematic peculiarities in the Galactic yz plane related to the kinematics of the warped stellar-gaseous Galactic disk. We show that the parameters of the linear Ogorodnikov-Milne model that describe the kinematics of RGC stars in the zx plane do not differ significantly from zero. The situation in the yz plane is different. For example, the component of the solid-body rotation vector of the local solar neighborhood around the Galactic x axis is M 32 = −2.6 ± 0.2 km s−1 kpc−1. Two parameters of the deformation tensor in this plane, namely M 23+ = 1.0 ± 0.2 km s−1 kpc−1 and M 33M 22 = −1.3 ± 0.4 km s−1 kpc−1, also differ significantly from zero. On the whole, the kinematics of the warped stellar-gaseous Galactic disk in the local solar neighborhood can be described as a rotation around the Galactic x axis (close to the line of nodes of this structure) with an angular velocity −3.1 ± 0.5 km s−1 kpc−1 ≤ ΩW ≤ −4.4 ± 0.5 km s−1 kpc−1.  相似文献

Based on data for 102 OB3 stars with known proper motions and radial velocities, we have tested the distances derived by Megier et al. from interstellar Ca II spectral lines. The internal reconciliation of the distance scales using the first derivative of the angular velocity of Galactic rotation Ω′0 and the external reconciliation with Humphreys’s distance scale for OB associations refined by Mel’nik and Dambis show that the initial distances should be reduced by ≈20%. Given this correction, the heliocentric distances of these stars lie within the range 0.6–2.6 kpc. A kinematic analysis of these stars at a fixed Galactocentric distance of the Sun, R 0 = 8 kpc, has allowed the following parameters to be determined: (1) the solar peculiar velocity components (u , v , ω ) = (8.9, 10.3, 6.8) ± (0.6, 1.0, 0.4) km s−1; (2) the Galactic rotation parameters Ω0 = −31.5 ± 0.9 km s−1 kpc−1, Ω′0 = +4.49 ± 0.12 km s−1 kpc−2, Ω″0 = −1.05 ± 0.38 km s−1 kpc−3 (the corresponding Oort constants are A = 17.9 ± 0.5 km s−1 kpc−1, B = −13.6 ± 1.0 km s−1 kpc−1 and the circular rotation velocity of the solar neighborhood is |V 0| = 252 ± 14 km s−1); (3) the spiral density wave parameters, namely: the perturbation amplitudes for the radial and azimuthal velocity components, respectively, f R = −12.5±1.1 km s−1 and f ϑ = 2.0 ± 1.6 km s−1; the pitch angle for the two-armed spiral pattern i = −5.3° ± 0.3°, with the wavelength of the spiral density wave at the solar distance being λ = 2.3 ± 0.2 kpc; the Sun’s phase in the spiral wave x = −91° ± 4°.  相似文献

Combining Hipparcos proper motions and the radial velocity data, we have studied the Cepheid kinematics on the basis of the three-dimensional Ogorodnikov-Milne model. The results seem to show a slight contracting motion of the Galaxy in the solar neighbourhood, ∂ V θ / ∂θ / R = −2.60 ± 1.07 km s-1 kpc-1, which is along the solar circle. Under the hypothesis of a circular stream model, we have determined the galactic rotation V θ = −240.5 ± 10.2 km s-1 for the classical Cepheids. A comparison of observed stellar distributions with a three-component model of the Galaxy is presented. The analysis is based on photometric and photoelectric data obtained along the main Galactic meridian and in two fields near the North Galactic pole (programme MEGA). The assumed model considers the Galaxy as composed of the disk (main sequence and disk red giants), the thick disk and spheroid populations. To model the observed colour distribution, we distinguish main sequence stars and disk red giants as the disk subsystem; white dwarfs, subdwarfs and intermediate giants as the thick disk subsystem; extreme subdwarfs, spheroid giants and horizontal branch stars as the spheroid subsystem. A statistical relation between the apparent and absolute magnitudes of stars which make the maximum contribution to the star counts for a given disk subsystem is derived. In order to achieve the best agreement between the model and observations, we fit the values of the ‘dip’ (aw) of the disk luminosity function, the correction to the absolute magnitude of disk red giants (ΔMVRG) and the expression for interstellar extinction. As the main result, we obtained aw = 0.6 (logarithmic scale) and ΔMVRG = 0.5 mag; the interstellar extinction has to be taken into account by the modified Sandage law.  相似文献

Radial velocities are given for some 900 stars within 15‡ of the North Galactic Pole, including almost all such stars classified G5 or later in theHenry Draper Catalogue. Luminosities, two-dimensional spectral classes, composition indices, and distances are derived for the majority of the sample throughDDO andBV photometry. More than half of the stars are classified as G5-K5 giants: they show a clear relationship between composition and velocity dispersion for the two Galactic componentsV andW, and a less well-defined trend forU. Four abundance groups exhibit characteristics which imply association with, respectively, the thick disk, old thin disk, young thin disk, and Roman’s “4150” group. The sample is contained within l kpc of the Galactic plane, and no trends with distance are evident.  相似文献

This paper presents the RCGP catalogue of more than 0.5 million candidate red clump stars with the limiting magnitude K s = 9.5 m . These stars are selected from the PPMX catalogue as the most probable red clump members by analyzing the color-reduced proper motion diagrams built from the proper motions given in PPMX and J, K s -photometry given in the 2MASS catalogue. Reddening of the selected stars is used to find extinction in the K s -band and to consider it in the further analysis. The two-dimensional galactic rotation model generalized by Ogorodnikov is used to investigate the tangential velocity field of the selected red clump members, most of which are thin disk stars located within 1.5 kpc from the sun. The values of kinematic parameters and solar components are determined as a function of stellar heights above the galactic equatorial plane and their heliocentric distances.  相似文献

Based on currently available observations of 28 maser sources in 25 star-forming regions with measured trigonometric parallaxes, proper motions, and radial velocities, we have constructed the rotation curve of the Galaxy. Taking different distances to the Galactic center R 0, we have estimated the peculiar velocity of the Sun, the angular velocity of Galactic rotation, and its three derivatives. For R 0 = 8 kpc, we have found the circular velocity of the Sun to be V 0 = 243 ± 16 km s−1, which corresponds to a revolution period of 202 ± 10 Myr. We have obtained the Oort constants A = 16.9 ± 1.2 km s−1 kpc−1 and B = −13.5 ± 1.4 km s−1 kpc−1. Our simulation of the influence of a spiral density wave has shown that the peculiar velocity of the Sun with respect to the local standard of rest and the component (V )LSR depend significantly on the Sun’s phase in the spiral wave.  相似文献

Based on multicolor photometry from the 2MASS and Tycho-2 catalogues, we have produced a sample of 38 368 branch red giants that has less than 1% of admixtures and is complete within 500 pc of the Sun. The sample includes 30 671 K giants, 7544Mgiants, 49 C giants, and 104 suspected supergiants or S stars. The photometric distances have been calculated for K, M, and C stars with an accuracy of 40%. Tycho-2 proper motions and PCRV radial velocities are used to analyze the stellar kinematics. The decrease in the stellar distribution density with distance from the Galactic equator approximated by the barometric law, contrary to the Besanconmodel of the Galaxy, and the kinematic parameters calculated using the Ogorodnikov-Milne model characterize the overwhelming majority of the selected K and M giants as disk stars with ages of more than 3 Gyr. A small number of K and M giants are extremely young or, conversely, thick-disk ones. The latter show a nonuniform distribution in the phase space of coordinates and velocities, arguing against isothermality and full relaxation of the disk and for the theory of dynamical streams or superclusters. The spatial distribution and kinematics of the selected C stars force us to consider them as asymptotic branch giants with masses of more than 2M and ages of less than 2 Gyr probably associated with the Gould Belt. The offset of the Sun above the Galactic equator has been found from the distribution of stars to be 13 ± 2 pc, which coincides with the previously obtained value for the clump red giants.  相似文献

A quiescent filament was observed near the center of the disk (N5, W5) with the MSDP spectrograph of the 50 cm refractor of the Pic-du-Midi Observatory on June 17, 1986. We focus our study on the statistical moments of the Dopplershift,V 1, and the intensity,I 1, at the center of a chord of the Hα profile (±0.256 Å), versus the minimum intensityI 0. We use a statistical model simulating a numbern max of threads (of optical thicknessτ 0 and source functionS 0), seen over the chromosphere. The threadsj along the same line-of-sighti are identical except for the velocityv j (gaussian distributionv 0,σ v). We search for the best fit between the observed and simulated quantities:V 1,σ (V 1),I 1,σ(I 1), and the histogram of theI 0 values over the field of view. A good fit is obtained with: (a) threads characterized byτ 0 = 0.2,S 0 = 0.06 (unit of the continuum at disk center), mean upward velocityv 0 = 1.7 km s−1 and gaussian-type velocity distributionσ v = 3.5 km s−1. Other possible values ofτ 0 andσ v are discussed; (b) underlying chromosphere deduced from observed quiet Sun (outside the filament) by modifying the chromospheric velocities: additional mean upward velocity 0.7 km s−1, standard deviation reduced by a factorF c ∼ 0.7. The results are discussed in connection with the values deduced from prominence observations.  相似文献

We interpret the de‐reddened UBV data for the field SA 133 to deduce the stellar density and metallicity distribution functions. The logarithmic local space density for giants, D*(0) = 6.40, and the agreement of the luminosity function for dwarfs and sub‐giants with the one of Hipparcos confirms the empirical method used for their separation. The metallicity distribution for dwarfs gives a narrow peak at [Fe/H] = +0.13 dex, due to apparently bright limiting magnitude, Vo = 16.5, whereas late‐type giants extending up to z ∼ 4.5 kpc from the galactic plane have a multimodal distribution. The metallicity distribution for giants gives a steep gradient d[Fe/H]/dz = –0.75 dex kpc–1 for thin disk and thick disk whereas a smaller value for the halo, i.e. d[Fe/H]/dz = –0.45 dex kpc–1. A reanalysis of the (seemingly very distant) open cluster Shorlin 1, the group of stars associated with WR 38 and WR 38a, is made on the basis of existing UBV and JHK s observations for cluster members. The 2MASS observations, in particular, imply a mean cluster reddening of E BV =1.45±0.07 and a distance of 2.94±0.12 kpc. The reddening agrees with the UBV results provided that the local reddening slope is described by E UB /E BV =0.64±0.01, but the distance estimates in the 2MASS and UBV systems agree only if the ratio of total-to-selective extinction for the associated dust is R=A V /E BV =4.0±0.1. Both results are similar to what has been obtained for adjacent clusters in the Eta Carinae region by similar analyses, which suggests that “anomalous” dust extinction is widespread through the region, particularly for groups reddened by relatively nearby dust. Dust associated with the Eta Carinae complex itself appears to exhibit more “normal” qualities. The results have direct implications for the interpretation of distances to optical spiral arm indicators for the Galaxy at =287°–291°, in particular the Carina arm here is probably little more than ∼2 kpc distant, rather than 2.5–3 kpc distant as implied in previous studies. Newly-derived intrinsic parameters for the two cluster Wolf-Rayet stars WR 38 (WC4) and WR 38a (WN5) are in good agreement with what is found for other WR stars in Galactic open clusters, which was not the case previously.  相似文献

Based on currently available kinematic data, we have searched for stars outside the Hipparcos list that either closely encountered in the past or will encounter in the future the Solar system within several parsecs. For the first time, we have identified two single stars, GJ 3379 (G 099-049) and GJ 3323 (LHS 1723), as candidate for a close encounter with the solar orbit. The star GJ 3379 could encounter the Sunmore closely to aminimumdistance d min = 1.32±0.03 pc at time t min = −163 ± 3 thousand years. We have found two potential candidates for a close encounter that have only photometrical distances: the white dwarf SSSPM J1549-3544 without any data on its radial velocity and the L-dwarf SDSS J1416+1348. The probabilities of their penetration into the Oort cloud region are 0.09 (at a model radial velocity <V r < = 50 km s−1) and 0.05, respectively.  相似文献

A sample of subdwarfs with accurate space velocities and standarized metallicities is presented. This was constructed by combining Hipparcos parallaxes and proper motions with radial velocities and metallicities from Carney et al. (1994; CLLA). The accurate Hipparcos parallaxes lead to an – upward – correction factor of 11% of the photometric distance scale of CLLA. The kinematical behaviour of the subdwarfs is discussed in particular in relation to their metallicities. Most of the stars turn out to be thick disk stars, but the sample contains also many genuine halo stars. While the extreme metal poor halo does not rotate, a population of subdwarfs with metallicities in the range −1.6≤ [Fe/H] ≤ −1.0 dex appears to rotate around the galactic center with a mean rotation speed of about 100 km s-1.
