Previously published solar abundances of oxygen and carbon can be corrected to be logN(O) = 8.93 and logN(C) = 8.60 on the hydrogen log-scale when new accurate forbidden electric quadrupole transition probabilities A Q(s–1) are used. Such A Q's, based on the new atomic structure and electron correlation theory, developed recently by Sinanolu and coworkers, are reported for the (1 S 0-1 D 2) lines of [C i], [N ii, [O i] and [O iii] and the (2 P-2 D) lines of [N i] and [O ii]. We present SUMER/SOHO UV measurements of chromospheric oscillations of intensity, velocity, and linewidth observed in C i, S i, O i, and C ii lines, which are formed in the altitude range from 1000 km to 2000 km above τ 500=1. Oscillations in lines originating at similar altitudes exhibit different behaviors which we discuss in terms of the formation of the lines.  相似文献

The evaluation of damping constants is discussed and the results of their empirical determination by various authors are listed in the Appendix.The results of the determination of damping constants by analysing the wings of 38 strong Fe i lines are discussed and compared with previous results obtained by the same method from 27 moderate Fe i lines.The van der Waals damping constant 6 multiplied by an enhancement factor E = 2.5 is suggested for the interpretation of Fe i Fraunhofer lines.  相似文献

Two new Th ii lines have been identified in the spectrum of the solar photosphere. The abundance derived from these lines together with the previously known Th ii line at 4019 Å, is log Th = 0.85 ± 0.20 in the log H = 12.00 scale. Analysis of three Pb i lines in the photospheric spectrum resulted in an abundance of log pb = 1.90 ± 0.10. The solar Th/Pb ratio is: Th/ Pb = 0.09 -0.005 0.09 .  相似文献

On the basis of a series of low-noise, high-resolution photometric tracings of the Fraunhofer spectrum a search has been made in the sun for the ultimate lines of neutral rhenium. The records examined show no convincing evidence for the presence of solar Rei lines. For the rhenium content of the photosphere the present investigation gives an upper limit of approximately logN Re =-0.3, on the standard scale where logN H = 12.00.  相似文献

Summary The mechanical flux originating in the convective envelope of stars is shown to depend critically by the treatment of convection. In particular, in the framework of the mixing-length theory, in passing from a mixing lengthl=H P to a mixing lengthl=H the presence of mechanical fluxes shifts from being a marginal phenomenon to a dominant one.Possible implications concerning atmospheric microturbulence in Main Sequence stars, as so asA p andA m stars, several types of variables and mass loss are briefly discussed.

The [SI] lines are due to transitions within the 3s23p4 ground configuration of neutral sulphur. The results are presented from a search for the [Si] lines in the Fraunhofer spectrum. Two identifications are proposed with faint features in the Fraunhofer spectrum: 1D2-1S0 at = 7725.02 Å and 3P2-1D2 at = 10821.23 Å. Their measured equivalent widths are shown to confirm the value for the solar abundance of sulphur, logN S = 7.21 (in the scale logN H = 12.00), which is derived from the permitted high-excitation lines. These lines give the first convincing identification of [Si] lines in an astrophysical source.  相似文献

We have obtained IUE ultraviolet spectra of the low-excitation planetary nebula CN 3-1. The recordings show the well-known doublet 2800 MgII and resonance line 2852 MgI as strong absorption lines. We show that these lines cannot be of interstellar origin and that they may be formed in two envelopes surrounding the main nebula: in the transition zone (doublet 2800 MgII) and in the neutral envelope (line 2852 MgI). These envelopes possess an important property: they contain dust particles, and even a moderate amount of such particles may influence the strength of the absorption lines of MgII and MgI.The emission line 4686 HeII has no relation to the nebula CN 3-1 and belongs to its nucleus, a star of type WR. It is very probable that the nucleus of this nebula is a binary system with a WR component (T *=50 000 K), exciting the helium lines, and a star of B0 or B2 type (T *=26 000 K) exciting the nebular linesN 1+N 2 [OIII], 3727 [OII], hydrogen lines, etc.  相似文献

An analysis of the spectral distribution of intensity of the Hei recombination continuum is probably the only direct method for determination of the electron temperature of helium emission regions on the Sun. On the basis of data on the Hei Lyman continuum, obtained by Dupree and Reeves from OSO-4, the electron temperature of undisturbed helium regions is determined: T e = = 12500 K. Such a low T e value is a serious argument in favour of the predominant role of UV coronal radiation in the helium ionization on the Sun. Comparison of the Hei Lyman continuum data with results of observations of the 10830 line showed that the visible helium lines and Hei Lyman continuum are produced within the same regions of the undisturbed solar atmosphere at T e = 12500 K.  相似文献

Nine coronal emission lines representing five stages of Fe ionization and one stage of Ni were observed in an enhanced coronal region. The data from these observations are presented along with a density model of the enhanced region obtained from the FeXIII and NiXV emission line ratios as a function of position angle. The electron densities obtained from FeXIII lines range from N e = 108 to 109 cm–3, and are slightly lower for NiXV line data. Estimates of the variation of temperature over the enhanced region are inferred from the observed line intensities.  相似文献

Nine high- and low-resolution IEU spectra at different orbital phases during different cycles, of the hydrogen-poor single-lined spectroscopic binary KS per (HD 30353) have been studied. The near-UV spectrum is characterized by the presence of several lines of once ionized metals which show the same orbital RV shifts observed in the visual range. The MgII resonance lines present a sharp interstellar + circumstellar core and an emission peak at about 83 and 92 km s–1. The far UV spectrum is characterized by the presence of strong absorptions of the resonance lines ofNV,CIV, SiIV, SiIII.Direct determination of the IS extinction from the 2200 Å feature givesE(B-V)=0.33. A comparison of corrected logarithmic continuous energy distribution with the theoretical models by Kurucz, indicates that the companion is a hot star,T e=15000 K; logg=4. A comparison with the recent UV work ofv Sgr, shows that, KS Per is very similar tov Sgr.Based on observations by the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) collected at the Villafrance Satellite Tracking Station and obtained from the IUE data bank.  相似文献

The center-to-limb variation of equivalent widths of 198 Fei lines in the spectral region 5500 to 7000 Å was studied with five photospheric models. The gf-values of Corliss and Warner (1964) were used in the analysis. The photospheric iron abundance was found to vary with excitation potential. This can be explained by a systematic error in the gf-values of high excitation lines and an error of 250 to 500K in the temperature of the arcs used for measuring the gf-values. Departures from LTE in the solar Fei lines are also a possibility. The adopted photospheric abundance of iron, log(N Fe/N H) is - 5.2.  相似文献

From a high-resolution spectrum of a sunspot umbra (1.1 < < 2.3 m) we derive models of the temperature stratification in the deep layers of the umbra. The observed spectrum is corrected for straylight using the Hi Paschen line at gl = 1.282 m. A method is described for the iterative fitting of empirical temperature models to spectral information, and the method is applied to the present data. We find that the observed profiles of 3 high-excitation lines of Sii and the observed continuum contrast between umbra and photosphere cannot be reproduced with a single one-component model of the umbral atmosphere: the Si i lines require a model that is 460 K hotter at gt 0.5 = 3 than the continuum model. This indicates that hot and cool components coexist within the umbra. A temperature model derived from the relative intensity in the wings of 3 low-excitation lines of Mgi, Ali, and Sii is not significantly different from the continuum model.Based on observations obtained at Kitt Peak National Observatory, which is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. A method for obtaining the source function and value of r 0 k c/k L,0 from the variation of equivalent width across the solar disk has been applied to several infrared Fraunhofer lines. The results indicate that most of the lines investigated have non-L.T.E. source functions which are less than or equal to the mean continuum intensity. De Jager and Neven (1968) appear to have underestimated the departures from L.T.E. in a number of cases.  相似文献

Identifications are proposed for twenty of the twenty-eight coronal lines observed in the spectra obtained during a rocket flight into the path of the 7 March, 1970 solar eclipse. The methods by which the lines have been identified are discussed. Most of the lines identified are from forbidden transitions between levels in the ground 2p n and 3p n configurations in high ions of magnesium, silicon, sulphur, iron, and nickel. The temperature range represented is from 6.9 × 105 K to 2.5 × 106 K. The classification of three lines of Fexii and two of Nixiv has led to a revised identification for the near ultraviolet 2 D 3/2-2 P 1/2 transition in Fe xii. This transition can be identified with the line at 3072 Å rather than that at 3021 Å as previously suggested in the literature.  相似文献

Observations of solar X-ray line emission using crystal spectrometers during a large chromospheric flare have provided a list of wavelengths with a precision of 0.003 Å in first order of diffraction and correspondingly better in higher orders. In addition to the resonance, intersystem (1 1 S 0-2 3 P 1) and forbidden (1 1 S 0-2 3 S 1) transitions of ions of the Hei isoelectronic sequence, we have recorded satellite lines arising from ions in the Lii, Bei and Bi isoelectronic sequences. These satellite features are most prominent in the iron spectrum. Apparent decreases in the ratio of forbidden and intersystem line intensities of Mgxi and Sixiii during the flare are used to derive electron densities possibly as high as 1 × 1013 cm–3 in the Mgxi emitting region and 1 × 1014 cm–3 in the Sixiii region during the event. A search for satellite lines on the long-wavelength side of the Lyman-alpha line of Hi-like ions has yielded no positive identifications.  相似文献

The polarization structure in several spectral lines in solar type stars is computed using the method described by McKenna (1981, 1984a). The frequency redistribution function used for these calculations is a linear combination ofR II andR III. The line profiles and polarization structures have been computed for several weak solar resonance lines includingKi 7664 Å, Sri 4607 Å, Baii 4554 Å, for various polar angles along the stellar disk. Both the line profiles and polarization structures as well as the center to limb behavior of the line center polarization agree well with observations.The somewhat stronger resonance line Cai 4227 Å shows a different polarization structure when compared to the weaker solar resonance lines. It is found that for strong resonance lines the proper redistribution function to be used is a linear combination ofR III andR v (see McKenna, 1981, 1984b; Heinzel, 1981). The major reason for this is that for strong resonance lines both the upper and lower levels are broadened by collisions. This violates the assumptions upon which the redistribution functionsR II andR III are based.  相似文献

The relationship between Doppler shift patterns observed in the transition region and magnetic field patterns observed in the photosphere is studied using coaligned pairs of Civ Dopplergrams and Fei magnetograms. Categories of magnetic features are defined - including neutral lines, unipolar regions, strong field regions, weak field regions, and magnetic boundaries - and from these, magnetic associations are determined for 159 V 0 lines separating areas of relative blueshift and redshift observed in and around active regions. The cases are subdivided on the basis of whether blueshifts or redshifts are observed on the side of the V 0 line nearest the solar limb.Two main results are that V 0 lines associated with neutral lines tend to have limbward blueshifts, while V 0 lines associated with unipolar regions tend to have limbward redshifts. These and other results provide supportive evidence for the active region model proposed recently by Klimchuk, in which relative redshifts occur where strong vertical fields penetrate the surface, and relative blueshifts occur where these same fields have spread out to become horizontal. It is likely that the relative blueshifts correspond to absolute Doppler shifts of very small amplitude, possibly even absolute redshifts.The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Spectrographic observations of the flash spectrum were made by the Kwasan Observatory at the total solar eclipse on 7 March, 1970. The integrated intensities of Fexiv 5303, Fex 6374, and the continuum were measured on the spectrograms as a function of height above the Sun's limb. It was found that a large amount of emission in the coronal lines originates in the interspicular regions of the chromosphere. Analysis of the data yielded that the interspicular regions consist of coronal material of T e = 1.6 × 106–1.2 × 106 and log N e = 8.5–9.5, and that a decrease in T e and an increase in N e occur with decreasing height.  相似文献
