Professor Zuo Dakang died at Beijing on January 3, 1992. Prof. Zuo is the Chairman of the Academic Committee of the Institute of Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Director of the Earth Science Section, National Natural Science Foundation of China and the former Director of the Institute of Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The Journal of Chinese Geography will be changed into Journal of Geographical Sciences in 2001 to correspond to the merge of the Institute of Geography with Commission for Integrated Survey of Natural Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) which is now the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS. The 110th Anniversary of the Geographical Society of China(GSC)&the China Conference on Geography 2019 was held at China National Convention Center(CNCC),Beijing,China and Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research,Chinese Academy of Sciences(IGNSRR)from November 1st to 3rd,2019.Under the theme of“Innovation,Development and Glory–Theory and Practice of Chinese Geography”,the event attracted about 3000 participants from more than 20 countries of the world.     

Prof. YU Guirui,associate editor-in-chief of JRE,was elected as Academician of Chinese Academy of Science in 2019

Professor Yu,elected as an Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)in 2019,is a chief research scientist in the Key Laboratory of Ecosystem Network Observation and Modeling,Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research,Chinese Academy of Sciences.He received his PhD in soil science from Shenyang Agricultural University in 1993,and his PhD in environmental science from Chiba University in Japan in 1997.He was elected by the CAS 100-Talent Program in 1999,and was a beneficiary of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2002.He serves as a chair of ChinaFLUX and AsiaFlux,and is the chief editor of the Journal of Applied Ecology.

2007 Annual Meeting of the Geographical Society of China （GSC） was held on November 2-4 in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province of East China. A total of over 1300 geographical researchers and educators from 190 geographical institutions across the country participated in this meeting. More than 800 papers were submitted and discussed during this academic meeting. This meeting was co-sponsored by the GSC, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences （CAS）, Nanjing University, and Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research （IGSNRR） under the CAS.     

中国地理学会2008学术年会在长春召开

The 2008 Annual Meeting of the Geographical Society of China （GSC） was held on July 13-15 in Changchun, Jilin Province of Northeast China. A total of over 1000 geographical researchers and educators from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Australia participated in this meeting. More than 400 papers were submitted and discussed during this academic meeting. This meeting was co-sponsored by the GSC, Northeast Institute of Geography and Agricultural Ecology （NEIGAE） under the CAS, Northeast Normal University, and Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research （IGSNRR） under the CAS. As an important part of the 2008 annual meeting, the 3rd Annual Academic Conference on Geography for Postgraduates was given a response from more than 200 postgraduates in universities and academic institutions.

Biographical information GuoDong Cheng, born on 11 July, 1943, in Shanghai, China, received his Bachelor of Science in 1965, from the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology at Beijing Geology College （now China University of Geosciences）.
