The cyclic arrangement of lithofacies of the Karharbari Formation of the Damuda Group from a part of the Talchir Gondwana basin has been examined by statistical techniques. The lithologies have been condensed into five facies states viz. coarse-, medium-, fine-grained sandstones, shale and coal for the convenience of statistical analyses. Markov chain analysis indicates the arrangement of Karharbari lithofacies in form of fining upward cycles. A complete cycle consists of conglomerate or coarse-grained sandstone at the base sequentially succeeded by medium-and fine-grained sandstones, shale and coal at the top. The entropy analysis categorizes the Karharbari cycles into the C-type cyclicity, which is essentially a random sequence of lithologic states. Regression analysis undertaken in the present study indicates the existence of sympathetic relationship between total thickness of strata (net subsidence) and number and average thickness of sedimentary cycle and antipathic relationship between number and average thickness of sedimentary cycle. These observations suggest that cyclic sedimentation of the Karharbari Formation was controlled by autocyclic process by means of lateral migration of streams activated by intrabasinal differential subsidence, which operated within the depositional basin and the channels carrying coarse grade clastic sediments, which make the cycles thicker, tend to be more common in the areas of maximum subsidence. Clastic sediments issued from the laterally migrating rivers interrupted the cyclic sedimentation of the Karharbari Formation in many instances.  相似文献

Total thickness of strata and coal cycle parameters of the three formations, i.e. Karharbari, Barakar, and Barren Measures of the Damuda Group of the Talchir Gondwana basin were subjected to bivariate and multivariate statistical analyses. Polynomial regression lines were fitted to data sets consisting of total thickness of strata, number of coal cycles, and average thickness of coal cycles of the three formations of the Damuda Group. A significant direct relationship is observed between total thickness (net subsidence) of strata and number of coal cycles, while a significant inverse relationship exists between the number of coal cycles and their average thickness. Principal component and multiple regression analyses suggest that lithological parameters of the coal bearing strata reflect the dynamic of the basin subsidence. The sedimentary distributive mechanism in the form of lateral migration of streams or drainage diversion caused in response to differential subsidence of the depositional surface seem to be appropriate mechanisms for the development of coal cycles and peat swamps in the Talchir basin. Often during Karharbari sedimentation, peat accumulated in abandoned channels was scoured away by high energy migrating channels. On the other hand, Barakar peat swamps developed in a distal part of the flood plain, as a result of which many of the coal seams could be of appreciable thickness. The advent of arid climatic condition retarded the growth of vegetation to a larger extent that prevented profuse development of coal seams during the Barren Measures Formation.  相似文献

Cyclic characters of Karharbari, Barakar and Barren Measures Formations of the Talchir Gondwana basin have been studied in the subsurface logs statistically using first order Markov chain and entropy analyses. Results strongly suggest that the sediments of these formations were deposited by Markovian mechanism and all the three formations represent cyclic sedimentation. The complete cycles of all the three formations are identical and exhibit fining-upward character. Each complete cycle starts with a thin conglomerate or pebbly to coarse-grained sandstone at the base and successively followed by medium- and fine-grained sandstones, interbedded sandstone-shale, shale and terminates with a coal seam at the top. There are, however, minor variations of facies transition in different formations. Entropy analysis also corroborates these findings. The upward sequence of facies states, which is stationary at individual localities, is non-stationary over the entire area. Broad regional variations in the depositional environment, that are not significant at the local scale, may be the plausible explanation. The Karharbari, Barakar and Barren Measures sediments of the Talchir Gondwana basin fit suitably into the concept of fluvial cycles.  相似文献

In the Lower Gondwana succession of the Jharia basin of eastern India, the Barren Measures Formation is characterized by the cyclic disposition of fine-grained lacustrine deposits and relatively coarse-grained fluvial deposits. The cyclic variation in the rate of coarse clastic input is attributed to the sedimentary response to basin tectonics. The sandstone-shale alternations of the Barren Measures succession can be correlated with the tectonic cyclothems developed on the hangingwall dip-slope and adjoining trough in a continental half-graben setting. Enhancement of the gradient of the hangingwall dip-slope during reactivation of the basin margin faults led to progradation of the existing fluvial system towards the half-graben trough and deposition of the coarser clastics on the fine-grained lacustrine deposits of the trough. Peneplanation of the hangingwall slope and slow increase in the lake level caused lacustrine transgression and retrogration of the fluvial system on the hangingwall block. The fluvial sediments were onlapped by the fine-grained lacustrine deposits. Episodic rejuvenation of the basin margin faults thus caused development of tectonic cyclothem on the hangingwall block. The paleocurrent pattern indicates that a persistent northward paleoslope was maintained during Barren Measures sedimentation. The inferred depositional settings were much more extensive than the present limit of the outcrop. The faults, presently defining the northern limit of the Barren Measures Formation, were possibly emplaced after Barren Measures sedimentation. The final movement along these fault planes caused preservation of the downthrown hangingwall block and the Barren Measures sediments on the footwall block were eroded during subsequent denudation. The Southern Boundary Fault came into existence after the deposition of the Barren Measures sediments.  相似文献

The quantitative relationships between lithological variables from the Late Paleozoic coal bearing cycles have been investigated using factor analysis in an attempt to analyze net subsidence during the deposition of these cycles. The results suggest that there are only two non-zero eigenvalues in varimax matrix which indicate that the hyper ellipsoid enclosing the data points have seven axes of zero length and exists an ordinary two dimensional ellipsoid. The data points can be located with reference to two mutually perpendicular axes. Loading on thickness of sandstones, thickness of shale, number of sandstone beds and number of shale beds are extremely high on RF-I and low on the other factor. This would lead to the interpretation that a balance was maintained throughout the Barakar sedimentation between the rate of deposition and the rate of subsidence. On the other hand, loading on number of coal beds is high on ‘ suggesting that the development of peat swamps (coal beds) is not a normal feature during the Late Paleozoic Barakar sedimentation in this Gondwana sub-basin.  相似文献

In case of autocyclic sedimentation, direct relationship exists between net thickness of strata and number of coal cycles. Many of the coal basins including coal bearing Gondwana basins of India are good examples of autocyclic sedimentation, in which the cyclicity is attributed to intrabasinal differential subsidence of the basin floor. In the present work an attempt has been made to quantify the intrabasinal subsidence in a part of the Barakar Formation of the Talchir Gondwana basin. Eight undisturbed intervals were delineated in the Barakar stratigraphy. During different phases of sedimentation, different parts of the study area subsided with varying magnitudes. The areas of maximum subsidence accommodated thicker sediment column in comparison to the areas of slow subsidence rate.  相似文献

A statistical approach by a modified Markov process model and entropy function is used to prove that the early Permian Barakar Formation of the Bellampalli coalfield developed distinct cyclicities during deposition. From results, the transition path of lithological states typical for the Bellampalli basin is as: coarse to medium-grained sandstone → interbedded fine-grained sandstone/shale → shale → coal and again shale. The majority of cycles are symmetrical but asymmetrical cycles are present as well. The chi-square stationarity test implies that these cycles are stationary in space and time. The cycles are interpreted in terms of in-channel, point bar and overbank facies association in a fluvial system. The randomness in the occurrence of facies within a cycle is evaluated in terms of entropy, which can be calculated from the Markov matrices. Two types of entropies are calculated for every facies state; entropy after deposition E(post) and entropy before deposition E(pre), which together form entropy set; the entropy for the whole system is also calculated. These values are plotted and compared with Hattori’s idealized plots, which indicate that the sequence is essentially a symmetrical cycle (type-B of Hattroi). The symmetrical cyclical deposition of early Permian Barakar Formation is explained by the lateral migration of stream channels in response to varying discharge and rate of deposition across the alluvial plain. In addition, the fining upward cycles in the upper part enclosing thick beds of fine clastics, as well as coal may represent differential subsidence of depositional basin.  相似文献

Early- to middle-Miocene fluvial sandstones of the Rio Vero Formation were studied, in an area around the town of Barbastro, south central Pyrenees Spain. The outstanding quality of outcrops in this area allows a three-dimensional study of architectural elements.Six architectural elements are recognised, described in detail, and interpreted from three key localities. Seven main lithofacies were identified and sub-divided into gravelly, sandy and fine-grained lithofacies. The architectural elements and lithofacies have been combined with a hierarchy of depositional bounding surfaces to fully interpret the evolution of the depositional system at the meso- and macro-scale. Not only the different architectural elements and lithofacies of the complete braided fluvial system, but also the lateral variation of the architectural elements were emphasised in this study. Differential tectonic movements, seasonal climate change, and their effect on vertical and lateral evolution of the area were the main control on basin sedimentation, channel interconnection, palaeocurrent patterns, and consequently the fluvial architecture.The presence of lateral ramp anticlines caused the fluvial system to be laterally restricted, with the main channel-belts being located in the areas of highest subsidence and lowest topography. Intervening topographic highs acted as both flood plains and lateral barriers between the main channel systems. The proposed depositional model comprises broad, low-sinuosity, perennial, but seasonal moderate-energy streams. The sandstone architecture is dominated by channel-fill and sheet sands, and associated simple and more complex bars. Adjacent to the main channel-belts fine-grained sandstones, siltstones and immature paleosols occur.The along-strike relationship between major fluvial systems and their outlets into a foreland basin has important implications for the infill of the basin and the modelling of fluvial systems along mountain belt fronts.  相似文献

The quantitative relationships between lithological variables of Early Permian Barakar coal measures of western Singrauli Gondwana sub-basin are investigated using principal component analysis in an attempt to reveal simple relationships undetected by conventional quantitative methods. The results not only confirm and amplify those of the simple regression analysis described in Casshyap et.al. (1988), but are also interpreted in terms of evolution of coal swamps. If the total thickness of strata, total thickness of clastic sediments, total thickness of coal seams, number of sandstone beds, number of shale beds, number of coal seams and clastic ratio are considered, the first three components accounts for 80% of the total variance and the lithological variables generally fall into two groups. One group contains the first four variables, namely, total thickness of strata, total thickness of sandstone, total thickness of shale and total thickness of coal seams, all of which have basin-like regional patterns of sedimentation linked to net subsidence. The other group of variables, which are somewhat less closely related to net subsidence such as number of sandstone beds, number of shale beds and number of coal seam. The sand/shale ratio and clastic ratio are dependent on the other variables and seem to be unrelated to net subsidence. The principal component results, at best in geological term, may be explained by the to and fro lateral migration of a river channel across its flood plain coupled with a gradual isostatic adjustment of the basin floor in response to the weight of the sediments and differential subsidence through space and time.  相似文献

从构造和充填序列的角度分析了呼和湖凹陷下白垩统成煤环境,为该凹陷煤炭资源开发提供指导。呼和湖凹陷下白垩统主要经历伸展断陷和裂后热沉降断坳2个构造演化阶段。其中伸展断陷阶段可划分为初始张裂阶段、断裂强烈拉张阶段和断陷快速沉降阶段;裂后热沉降断坳阶段可划分为断坳转换沉降阶段和断坳沉降阶段。根据断陷盆地充填序列组合特征,将呼和湖凹陷下白垩统自下而上确定为底部粗碎屑冲积物段(Fm)、湖相细碎屑沉积段(Lm)、含煤碎屑岩段和湖相段(Cm-Lm)、湖相细碎屑沉积段(Lm)、含煤碎屑岩段和湖相段(Cm-Lm)和含煤碎屑岩段(Cm)类型。将构造演化和填充序列结合起来,探讨了南屯组二段、大磨拐河组二段和伊敏组的成煤环境。南屯组二段沉积时期,煤层主要发育在断陷湖盆沼泽长期稳定发育的滨湖地带和废弃的辫状河三角洲上。大磨拐和组二段沉积时期,凹陷为断坳浅水湖盆,北部聚煤作用主要发育在扇三角洲砂体上,南部聚煤作用主要发育在湖泊沼泽长期发育的滨湖地带。伊敏组沉积时期,凹陷全面淤浅,浅水洼地成为主要的聚煤场所。   相似文献

青海聚乎更矿区不仅赋存丰富的煤炭资源,同时也是全球陆域中纬度高海拔地区天然气水合物的首要发现地,同时也是我国非常规天然气(煤层气和页岩气)勘探开发的潜在热点地区,且天然气水合物勘探的层位主要为中侏罗世含煤岩系。通过对青海聚乎更矿区中侏罗世含煤地层野外露头、钻孔岩心、测井等资料整理分析的基础上,对研究区内中侏罗世含煤岩系沉积时期的沉积环境及古地理进行了分析。以定量和定性分析相结合的方法对研究区岩相古地理进行重建。以钻孔沉积相分析为基础,结合单因素分析多因素综合作图法及研究区目的层段沉积相断面图分析,最终恢复各段沉积期的岩相古地理格局。木里组下段岩性主要为细砾岩、含砾粗砂岩及粗砂岩等粗粒岩性,分析认为木里组下段主要发育辫状河沉积;木里组上段随着水体的不断加深,发育形成 了研究区主采的下1、下2煤层,该段主要以三角洲沉积为主,同时研究区西南区域发育滨浅湖沉积;江仓组上段沉积时期,水体进一步加深,成煤环境逐渐变差,发育形成多套薄煤层,以三角洲沉积为主,西南区域的滨浅湖沉积范围进一步扩大;江仓组上段是发现水合物的主要层段,其岩性主要以油页岩、暗色泥岩等为主,含有典型的湖泊沉积的瓣鳃类化石,为湖泊沉积。总体上,聚乎更矿区在中侏罗世经历了辫状河、三角洲平原、三角洲前缘、滨浅湖、半深湖-深湖的持续变深的演化过程。  相似文献

North Karanpura coal field is the western most marginal coal bearing segment of east-west trending Damodar valley basin. It consists of middle Permian Barakar Formation with sandstone, siltstone, coal and shale being the dominant lithofacies, deposited in a fluvial meandering environment, giving rise to repetitive fining upwards cycles. Study of geophysical logs, the drilled core holes were used to identify lithofacies, correlate coal seams with splitmerge behavior; which has been used to understand lateral and vertical facies disposition. Geophysical logs have been employed to compute various coal assay parameters–ash, fixed carbon, moisture, volatile content, cleat porosity, vitrinite reflectance seam wise. Study of log based coal assay parameters, calibrated with lab based values depicts lateral coal quality variation, i.e. decreasing ash content, higher fixed carbon from east to west, which can be a great proxy for future development of field or mine planning.  相似文献

二连盆地吉尔嘎朗图凹陷是一个陆相断陷聚煤盆地,下白垩统赛汉塔拉组是其主要含煤地层,作者利用岩心、钻孔资料对其岩相类型、沉积相、层序地层及聚煤作用特征进行研究。(1)赛汉塔拉组主要由砂砾岩、砂岩、粉砂岩、泥岩、碳质泥岩及厚层褐煤组成,发育扇三角洲平原相、扇三角洲前缘相、辫状河三角洲平原相、辫状河三角洲前缘相、滨浅湖相,分别属于扇三角洲沉积体系、辫状河三角洲沉积体系和湖泊沉积体系。(2)识别出2种层序界面:不整合面和下切谷冲刷面,将赛汉塔拉组划分为2个三级层序。从层序Ⅰ到层序Ⅱ,煤层厚度逐渐增大,聚煤作用逐渐增强。(3)在滨浅湖环境下厚煤层主要形成于湖侵体系域早期,在扇/辫状河三角洲环境下厚煤层主要形成于湖侵体系域晚期,煤层厚度在凹陷中部最大,向西北和东南方向均变小。聚煤作用明显受基底沉降作用影响,可容空间增加速率与泥炭堆积速率相平衡,从而形成了区内巨厚煤层。  相似文献

This detailed quantitative basin analysis of fluvial deposits in a subsiding Namurian structural basin is aimed at discovering underlying statistical relationships between numbers of fluvial cycles, bulk lithological composition and net subsidence which could be used as a background to future sophisticated computer simulation experiments and would also facilitate comparison with other ancient basins. The succession studied lies between two widespread marine bands, one of Arnsbergian (E2) and one of Kinderscoutian (R1) age, and is dominated by upward-fining cycles: 94% of the semi-cycles containing sand, here termed grain-size cycles, are upward-fining and the ratio of fine members (mudstone+siltstone) to coarse members ranges from 0·23 to 5·0. Trend-surface analysis reveals basement structures, which influenced sedimentation, including a Caledonoid graben. Correlation coefficient values and results of principal component analysis demonstrate that the numbers of rooty horizons and grain-size cycles, together with the total thicknesses of sandstone and of mudstone+siltstone, all tend significantly towards a linear relationship with the total thickness of strata and hence net subsidence. The average thickness of grain-size cycles tends towards an inverse linear relationship with net subsidence. This probably reflects the presence of stacked, relatively thin, channel-fills within persistent channel belts. These belts tend to be localized in the areas of greatest subsidence within the basin and follow courses basically similar to channels already discovered in the underlying deltaic sediments. The highest concentrations of mudstone+siltstone tend to lie on the flanks of the basin, but high local sand concentrations found at points on the margin where channels entered the basin from the NW and NE and left to the SW, effectively disrupt any significant relationship between net subsidence and the proportion of sand. Coal has been selectively preserved on the flanks of the basin and the number of rooty horizons is greatest in an area of low subsidence which lay somewhat remote from the main channel belts.  相似文献

The Sylhet trough located on the north-eastern margin of present Bengal basin, contains ~22 km of Tertiary sediments and well known as a hydrocarbon producing province. A detailed facies characterization of the subsurface Miocene Surma Group sediments (especial emphasis on reservoirs sandstones) from Jalalabad gas field within the Sylhet trough has been done using core log analysis and wireline log (gamma ray) interpretation. Texture and sedimentary structures of the cores suggests that the nine individual lithofacies types which can be grouped together into three facies associations, namely, fine-grained facies associations (FFA), medium-grained facies association (MFA) and coarse-grained facies associations (CFA). Major changes in gamma ray log motifs and various bounding discontinuities indicate six para-sequence sets (basin wide) and twenty eight para-sequences (local environmental changes) within the depth range from 2200-2800 m. Detailed facies analysis of the cores and wireline log reveals that the interbedding facies within the associations in the Surma Group commonly develop small-scale fining-upward (FU) cycles, coarsening-upward (CU) and random intercalations (RD). The sediments of the Surma Group of the Jalalabad field have been interpreted as deposits of the shallow marine to tide-dominated deltaic depositional setting. The cyclic nature of sedimentation pattern of the Surma Group probably records an almost continuous existence of this prograding deltaic regime and a tectonic setting characterized by a mixture of prolonged basin subsidence and regional transgression coupled with sporadic regressive phases.  相似文献

The Qinshui basin in southeastern Shanxi Province is an important base for coalbed methane exploration and production in China. The methane reservoirs in this basin are the Carboniferous and Permian coals. Their thickness is strongly controlled by the depositional environments and the paleogeography. In this paper, sedimentological research was undertaken on the outcrop and borehole sections of the Taiyuan and Shanxi formations in the Qinshui basin and the basin-wide lithofacies paleogeography maps for these two formations have been reconstructed. The Taiyuan Formation is composed of limestones, aluminous mudstones, siltstones, silty mudstones, sandstones, and mineable coal seams, with a total thickness varying from 44.9 m to 193.48 m. The coal seams have a thickness ranging between 0.10 and 16.89 m, averaging 7.19 m. During the deposition of the Taiyuan Formation, the northern part of the basin was dominated by a lower deltaic depositional system, the central and southern parts were dominated by a lagoon environment, and the southeastern corner was occupied by a carbonate platform setting. Coal is relatively thick in the northern part and the southeastern corner. The Shanxi Formation consists of sandstones, siltstones, mudstones, and coals, with the limestones being locally developed. The thickness of the Shanxi Formation is from 18.6 m to 213.25 m, with the thickness of coal seams from 0.10 to 10 m and averaging 4.2 m. During the deposition of the Shanxi Formation, the northern part of the Qinshui basin was mainly dominated by a lower deltaic plain distributary channel environment, the central and southern parts were mainly an interdistributary bay environment, and the southeastern part was occupied by a delta front mouth bar environment. The thick coals are distributed in the central and southern parts where an interdistributary bay dominates. It is evident that the thick coal zones of the Taiyuan Formation are consistent with the sandstone-rich belts, mainly located in the areas of the northern lower deltaic plain and southeastern barrier bar environments, whereas the thick coal zones of the Shanxi Formation coincide with the mudstone-rich belts, located in the areas of the central and southern interdistributary bay environments. Electronic computers have enabled the quantitative relationships between stratigraphic variables to be calculated for a sequence of Namurian (E1 zone) cycles deposited in a differentially subsiding basin east of Stirling. Despite their limitations, coefficients of correlation and linear regression equations provide a relatively simple means of expressing the relationships between critical variables and so provide a useful way in which various cyclically deposited sequences can be compared. All possible pairs chosen from eleven variables are investigated, including the total number and average thickness of cycles, total number of coals and total thicknesses of coal, sandstone and shale. These six variables all tend to show a linear relationship with total thickness of strata and hence net subsidence. A second part of this paper, to be published later, will examine the relationships between variables in more detail, using the technique of factor analysis.  相似文献

黑龙江东部二龙山盆地是一新生代陆相聚煤盆地,中新世富锦组是其含煤地层。通过对富锦组沉积相、层序地层和聚煤作用特征的研究,可以看出:富锦组主要由凝灰质粉砂岩及中细砂岩、凝灰质砾岩及褐煤组成,发育滨浅湖相、深-半深湖相、冲积扇扇根相、扇中相及沼泽相,分别属于湖泊沉积体系和冲积扇沉积体系;富锦组是一个以区域不整合面为上下界的三级层序,其低位体系域对应底部砾岩段,湖侵体系域对应下部砂岩段和中部含煤段,高位体系域对应上部砂岩段;研究区煤层形成于湖侵体系域末期,且以盆地中部煤层厚度最大,向西北和西南方向煤层均变薄;聚煤作用明显受基底沉降作用影响,在湖侵体系域末期基底稳定沉降阶段,可容空间增加速率与泥炭堆积速率相平衡,从而形成了区内巨厚煤层。   相似文献

Cross-association analysis of lithologies and microfacies of two borehole sections of the Barren Measures Formation, Talcher coalfield situated 12 km apart show strikingly dissimilar results. In case of lithologies, one-to-one correlation becomes significant, which suggests continuity of the formation throughout the Barren Measures Formation and prevalence of braided stream depositional environment. However, lack of significant correlation of microfacies suggests existence of different sub-environments at different parts of the Barren Measures Formation during each stage of sedimentation. When channel facies were laid down at one place, homotaxial leeve, floodplain and swamp facies were deposited elsewhere.  相似文献

凤山盆地是燕山构造带内的一个早白垩世伸展盆地。盆地内沉积岩相和相组合的详细分析结果显示,盆地内部发育不同的沉积相带,并显示明显的空间变化。盆地北部和西部边缘以冲积扇砾岩和扇三角洲砂岩、砾岩沉积为主,盆地中心为湖泊细粒沉积。古流向和物源恢复结果证明,盆地沉积物主体来自北部和西部变质岩基底。盆地构造沉降和沉积过程主要受北缘和西缘张性断层的控制。断层下盘基底岩石的抬升与盆地边界正断层活动相关,从而成为盆地主要的物源区。凤山盆地的演化可划分为3个阶段,即早期火山喷发阶段、中期强烈断陷阶段和晚期填平阶段。  相似文献
