Gld deposits occurring in metamorphosed microcelastic rocks are distributed extensively at home and abroad. Some deposits of this type are of superlarge tonnage. The formation of gold deposits in metamorphosed microclastic rocks involves three stages:the sedimentary stage, the regionally metamorphic stage, and the ore-forming stage. At the first stage, microclastic sedimentary source rocks were developed in a relatively semi-enclosed reducing sea basin and were enriched in carbon, sulfur and gold.At the second stage, the gold adsorbed on organic matter and clay minerals was relesed and poorly concentrated during the destruction of organic matter and the depletion of clay minerals by regional metamorphism with increase temperature and pressure. At the third stage,a tectono-hydrothermal event took place. As a result, gold was leached from metamorphosed microclastic rocks, transported to ore depositional locus and/or mixed with gold of other sources in the course of migration, and finally precipitared as ores.Gold deposits of this type were eventually formed at the third stage, and they also can be classified as the orogenic belt type and the activation zone type. The gold deposits occurring in metamorphosed microcalastic rocks are the products of reworking processes and the influence of magmatism should be taken into consideration in some cases.

Gold deposits in intrusive masses include the veinlet dissemination, quartz vein and veinlet dissemination vein types,They are distributed in fracture zones along the endocontact zone of a batholith or in the centre and edge of a stock. The metallogenic epochs are Yenshanian,Hercynian,Archean,Proterozoic and Himalayan,The gold deposits are characterized by a big difference in time span between gold mineralization and the formation of host masses Ore-forming materials were derived from the masses and auriferous strata and ore-forming fluids came from meteoric and formation waters. When circulating water was heated by ascending heat flow, gold would be extracted, concentrated and transported from auriferous rocks and then precipitated in the masses during the late tectonic movement,Finally gold deposits were formed in the intrusive masses.

There are three types of gold deposits in the Jiaodong gold metallogenetic domain. The strata-bound gold deposits are a new type, which occur in a hydrocarbon-dled double-source bed enriched in gold(Au 174ng/g) and organic carbon(0.007-4.225%),At diagenetic a d hydrotherrmal stages water and oil were simultaneously activated and the stratabound gold deposits were formed from interactions between water ,oil and rocks. In the late Yanshanian period, gold oreboides were enriched and enlarged in response to tectonmoagmatism and action of complex ore-forming hydrothermal solutions. As a results,it is highly expected to find suparlarge gold deposits and the Yanzi area is expected to be a perspective target area.

A lot of new gold deposits have been found on the eastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau during the past two decades. Among them, three main types of gold deposits have been recognized, including quartz-vein-type, shearzone-type and porphyry-type. The former two types of gold deposits are mainly hosted within metamorphic rocks, while the latter is related to Cenozoic magmatism. Although all of these gold deposits are believed to have been formed during the uplift process of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in the Cenozoic era (Wang et al., 2002b), precise isotopic age constraints have still been lacking until quite recently. This paper presents new ^40Ar/^39Ar data of some gold deposits on the eastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which indicate that gold mineralization in the region occurred in response to the episodic stages of the orogenies. Recently obtained ^40Ar/^39Ar data on quartz and feldspars from several gold deposits, such as the Sandiao deposit, the Baijintaizi deposit, the Pusagang deposits, provide new constraints on gold mineralization on the eastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Geochronological studies of gold deposits along the Daduhe River indicate that there are three stages of gold mineralization. The early two stages occurred as early as 65.1 Ma in the Shuibaiyang deposit and 58.95 Ma in the Ruoji deposit, while the latter stage occurred as late as 25.35 Ma in Baijintaizi and 24.70 Ma in Sandiao. Isotopic dating of three plagioclases from the Beiya deposit, Zhifanggou deposit and Luobodi deposit and a K-feldspar from the Jinchangqing deposit in Yunnan Province indicates that these deposits were formed at two stages. The Zhifanggou and Jinchangqing deposits have early stage records as old as 58.82 Ma in Zhifanggou and 55.49 Ma in Jinchangqing, but all of the above four deposits in Yunnan have late stage records of 23.18 Ma in Jinchangqing, 24.54 Ma in Zhifanggou, 24.60 Ma in Luobodi and 24.56 Ma in Hongnitang. The above results suggest that the gold deposits on the eastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau were formed concentratedly at two main episodes, i.e. the end of the Paleocene (about 58 Ma) and the boundary between the Paleogene and the Neogene (about 25 Ma). The later episode appears to be looks like more important and was coupled with the Sichuan movement, which was extensively activated at that period. The beginning of the Cenozoic Era (about 65 Ma) might be another episode of gold mineralization, but only one deposit (Shuibaiyang) in this study has been proved to have been be formed at this stage and might be earlier than the initial collision between the Indian Plate and the Eurasia Plate. In view of geology, the above three episodes of gold mineralization are associated with three events of tectonicmagmatism and/or fluid events. Even though the gold deposits (for example, the Shuibaiyang deposit, Ruoji deposit and Pusagang deposit) were formed at different episodes, all of them are genetically related to tectonic movements in largescale shear zones. It looks like theat tectonic events (including large-scale strike-slip) between Paleogene and Neogene had a wide influence upon gold mineralization, with new deposits formed and old deposits enriched or superimposed to be a higher grade by new stage of mineralization. The above data suggest that gold deposits were not only concentrated in some areas, but also formed mainly at different boundaries of geological times, indicating that there existed some peak stages of gold mineralization (metallogenic episodes), and that the gold deposits were formed mainly by episodic mineralization.

The greenstone belt and metamorphosed microclastic rock-type superlarge gold deposits in China are hosted in metamorphic rocks and later intrusive bodies.Sedimentation.regional metamorphism and mineralization contributed a lot to the formation of the deposits,so did remelting magmatic process to some deposits, but the deposits were finally formed by reworking processes. The key factor leading to the formation of superlarge gold deposits is the reworking intensity, which for superlarge gold deposits is reflected by the large-scale reworked source rocks and even ore materials of various sources, strongly oxidized ore-forming fluids with a long and repeated active history and stable geothermal heat current. The factor which decides the reworking intensity is the network consisting of structures of different classes.

Gengma region, Sanjiang district is known to have some large-scale gold deposits. GIS predictive model for hydroghermal gold potential was carried out in this region using weights of evidence modeling technique. Datasets used include large-scale hydroghermal gold deposit records, geological, geophysical and remote sensing imagery. Based on the geological and mineral characteristics of areas with known gold occurrences in Sanjiang, several geological features were thought to be indicative of areas with potential for the occurrence of hydroghtermal gold deposits. Indicative features were extracted from geoexploration datasets for use as input in the predictive model. The features include host rock lithology, geologic structures, wallrock alteration and associated (volcanic-plutonic) igneous rocks. To determine which of the indicative geological features are important spatial predictors of area with potential for gold deposits, spatial analysis was done through the modeling method. The input maps were buffered and the optimum distance of spatial association for each geological feature was determined by calculating the contrast and studentized contrast. Five feature maps were converted to binary predictor patterns and used as evidential layers for predictive modeling. The binary patterns were integrated in two combinations, each of which consists of four patterns in order to avoid over prediction due to the effect of duplicate features in the two structural evidences. The two produced potential maps define almost similar favorable zones. Areas of intersections between these zones in the two potential maps placed the highest predictive favorable zones in the region.

The relations between ultrabasic rocks and gold deposits in time, space and genesis are discussed in this paper, the research results show that the ore-forming materials of the gold deposits is characteristic of crust-mantle mixing,The formation of the gold deposits is related with the activity of juvenile fluids along with the intrusion of ultrabasic dikes. The ascending juvenile fluids not only offered part of the gold.water and mineralizers for gold mineralization but also promoted the remobilization, deposition and enrichment of gold in crustal sediments.

In accordance with the characteristics of associated minerals, trace elments in the altered rocks around the veins and the composition of wolframite and mica, the vein wolframite deposits in the Nanling Region can be divided into two geochemical types:the wolframite-beryl-molybdenite-bismutite (native bismuth) type and the wolframite.cassiterite-sulfide (copper, zine, lead) type. Vein wolframite deposits of these two geochemical types were formed under different conditions. The wolframite-beryl-molybdenite-bismutite (native bismuth) type may be connected with high pH-Eh conditions whereas the wolframite-eassiterite-sulfide (copper, zinc, lead) type with low pH-Eh conditions. It is concluded that the two geochemical types of vein wolframite deposits are genetically related with two different geochemical types of granites in the Nanling Region.

Caledonian gold deposits are widely distributed in South China. They are developed in both South China Caledonian fold belt and adjacent Proterozoic Jiangnan uplift. The host rocks are Proterozoic metamorphosed microclastic rocks in the Jiangnan uplift and Proterozoic and Cambrian strata,as well as Chengjiang and Caledonian igneous bodies in the South China flod belt. The distince differences between the Caledonian and the most developed Yenshanian glod deposits in South China are reflected in age and host-rock type, relations to Yenshanian magmatic activities, element association, mineral assemblage and glod deposit type. The studies have proven hat the Caledonian epoch is a principal metallogenic period of gold deposits in South China. This conclusion is of very important enlightening significance in exploration of Caledonian gold deposits in South China as well as in other Caledonian fold belts and adjacent uplifts in China.

Orogenic disseminated and Carlin gold deposits share much similarity in alteration and mineralization. The disseminated orogenic Zhenyuan Au deposit along the Ailaoshan shear zone, southeastern Tibet, was selected to clarify their difference. The alteration and mineralization from the different lithologies, including meta-quartz sandstone, carbonaceous slate,meta-(ultra)mafic rock, quartz porphyry and lamprophyre were researched.According to the mineral assemblage and replacement relationship in all types of host rocks, two reactions show general control on gold deposition:(1)replacement of earlier magnetite by pyrite and carbonaceous material;(2)alteration of biotite and phlogopite phenocrysts in quartz porphyry and lamprophyre into dolomite/ankerite and sericite.Despite the lamprophyre is volumetrically minor and much less fractured than other host rocks,it contains a large portion of Au reserve, indicating that the chemically active lithology has played a more important role in gold precipitation compared to structure.LA-ICP-MS analysis shows that Au mainly occurs as invisible gold in fine-grained pyrite disseminated in the host rocks, with Au content reaching to 258.95 ppm.The diagenetic core of pyrite in meta-quartz sandstone enriched in Co,Ni,Mo,Ag and Hg is wrapped by hydrothermal pyrite enriched in Cu,As,Sb,Au,Tl,Pb and Bi.Different host rock lithology has much impact on the alteration and mineralization features.Carbonate and sericite in altered lamprophyre show they have higher Mg than those developed in other of host rocks denoting that the carbonate and sericite incorporated Mg from phlogopite phenocrysts in the primary lamprophyre during alteration. The ore fluid activated the diagenetic pyrite in meta-quartz sandstone leading the hydrothermal pyrite enriched in Cu,Mo,Ag,Sb,Te,Hg,Tl,Pb and Bi,but the hydrothermal pyrite in meta-(ultra)mafic rock is enriched in Co and Ni as the meta-(ultra)mafic rock host rock contain high content of Co and Ni.However,Au and As shear similar range in both types of host rocks indicating that these two elements most likely come from the deep source fluid rather than the host rocks. It was shown in the disseminated orogenic gold deposit that similar hydrothermal alteration with mineral assemblage of carbonate(mainly dolomite and ankerite),sericite, pyrite and arsenopyrite develops in all types of host rocks. This is different from the Nevada Carlin type,in which alteration is mainly dissolution and silicification of carbonate host rock.On the other hand,Au mainly occur as invisible gold in both disseminated orogenic and Carlin gold deposits.
