Specifications of a new Apogee Alta U47 CCD camera mounted at the Kyiv meridian axial circle (MAC) are presented. The camera is based on the 1024 × 1024 pxl e2v CCD47-10 with pixel sizes of 13 × 13 μm. Observations are carried out in the scan-drift mode with an effective exposure time of 77 s for equatorial stars. The MAC photometric system answers the standard Johnson V band, the MAC limiting magnitude V is 17 m . The test MAC observations of 2009 give positional accuracy and V magnitude errors equal to approximately 0.1″ and 0.09 m , respectively, for Tycho-2 stars. The telescope is used for observations of equatorial stars with the purpose of detecting their positions, proper motion, and brightness.  相似文献

The Eddington mission was given full approval by the European Space Agency on the 23rd May 2002, with launch scheduled for 2007/8. Its science objectives are stellar evolution and asteroseismology, and planet finding. In its current design it consists of 4 × 60 cm folded Schmidt telescopes, each with 6o × 6o field of view and its own CCD array camera. Eddington will spend 2 years primarily devoted to asteroseismology with 1–3 months on different target fields monitoring up to 50,000 stars per field, and 3 years continuously on a single field monitoring upwards of 100,000 stars for planet searching. The asteroseismic goal is to be able to detect oscillations frequencies of stars with a precision 0.1–0.3 μHz, to probe their interior structure and the study the physical processes that govern their evolution. The outer convection zone of the low-temperature white dwarf Van Maanen 2 has been studied for two different atmospheric models given byWeidemann (1960). A slight modification of the standard mixing length theory and the abundances derived by Weidemann have been used.The thickness of the convection zone is about 8 km for the atmospheric model withT eff=5780 K,g=108 cm sec–2 and about 23 km forT eff=5040,g=3.16×107K. In both cases the temperature at the lower boundary of the convection zone is about 9.8×105K. It is shown that this temperature corresponds approximately to the transition temperatureT tr to the (almost) isothermal core of the white dwarf. This value is considerably lower than the values ofT tr discussed in the literature until now.The outer convection zone consists of an upper completely non-degenerate part and a lower part with moderate degeneracy. In this lower part the degree of degeneracy is practically independent of depth.  相似文献

Variations in the dynamic parameters of Phobos have been determined after reaching critical value of the semi-major axis = 7247 km at which zero-gravity on the surface of Phobos near the equator will take place. The rate of the variations will increase significantly, e.g., in the tidal energy dissipation by one order in magnitude. The total dissipated mechanical energy during the whole tidal history of the system has been estimated as -5.5 × 1021 kg m2 s-2, the total decrease in the second zonal Stokes parameter of Phobos as -6.6 × 10-2.  相似文献

In the present investigation we measure the differential rotation of strong magnetic flux during solar cycles 21 – 23 with the method of wavelet transforms. We find that the cycle-averaged synodic rotation rate of strong magnetic flux can be written as ω=13.47−2.58sin 2 θ or ω=13.45−2.06sin 2 θ−1.37sin 4 θ, where θ is the latitude. They agree well with the results derived from sunspots. A north–south asymmetry of the rotation rate is found at high latitudes (28°<θ<40°). The strong flux in the southern hemisphere rotates faster than that in the northern hemisphere by 0.2 deg day−1. The asymmetry continued for cycles 21 – 23 and may be a secular property.  相似文献

A Reducing Camera designed by Meinel has been constructed and tested on the 61 cm NCU Cassegrain telescope. The basic principle of RC is to reduce the reflector'sf/13.5 to the equivalentf/2.7 such that the Cassegrain focus image can be reduced on a 35 mm film with almost no loss in sky coverage and in resolution but the exposure time is reduced by a factor of 25. The camera is able to obtain stellar spectra. With a grism and a standard lens the dispersion is 450 Å mm–1, which is comparable to that required for the MK classification. RC constructure and testing results are reported. We describe an imaging telescope for observations of celestial sources in the energy range between 30 keV and 1.8 MeV onboard stratospheric balloons. The detector is a 41 cm diameter, 5 cm thick NaI(Tl) crystal coupled to 19 photomultipliers in an Anger camera configuration. It is surrounded by a plastic scintillator 15 cm thick on the sides, 0.2 cm thick at the top and 20 cm thick at the bottom. The imaging device is based upon a 19 × 19 element square MURA (Modified Uniformly Redundant Array) coded mask mounted in an one-piece mask-antimask configuration. The detector's spatial resolution is about 10 mm at 100 keV. This is the first experiment to use such a mask pattern and configuration for astrophysical purposes. The expected 3 sensitivity for an on-axis source observed for 104 s at a residual atmosphere of 3.5 g cm–2 is 1.44 × 10–5 photons cm–2 s–1 keV–1 at 100 keV and 1.00 × 10–6 photons cm–2 s–1 keV–1 at 1 MeV. The angular resolution is approximately 14 arcminutes over a 13°field of view. The instrument is mounted in an automatic platform with a capability for pointing and stabilization in both azimuth and elevation axis with 2 arcmin accuracy.Presented at the 2nd UN/ESA Workshop, held in Bogotá, Colombia, 9-13 November, 1992.  相似文献

In a previous paper Lyttleton (1976) has shown that the apparent secular accelerations of the Sun and Moon, as given by de Sitter, can be largely explained if the Earth is contracting at the rate required by the phase-change hypothesis for the nature of the core. More reliable values for these accelerations have since become available which warrant a redetermination of the various effects concerned on the basis of constantG, and this is first carried out in the present paper. The lunar tidal couple, which is the same whetherG is changing or not, is found to be (4.74±0.38)×1023 cgs, about three-quarters that yielded by the de Sitter values, while within the theory the Moon would take correspondingly longer to reach close proximity to the Earth at about 1.5×109 years ago.The more accurate values of the accelerations enable examination to be made of the effects that a decreasingG would have, and it is shown that a valueG/G=–3×10–11 yr–1 can be weakly satisfied compared with the close agreement found on the basis of constantG, while a value as large numerically asG/G=–6×10–11 yr–1 seems to be definitely ruled out. On the iron-core model, an intrinsic positive component of acceleration of the angular velocity cannot be reconciled at all with the secular accelerations even for constantG, and far less so ifG is decreasing at a rate suggested by any recent cosmological theory.ItG=0, the amount of contraction available for mountain-building would correspond to a reduction of surface area of about 49×106 km2 and a volume to be redistributed of 160×109 km3 if the time of collapse were 2.5×109 years ago. For earlier times, the values are only slightly reduced. IfG/G=–3×10–11 yr–1, the corresponding values are 44×106 km2 and 138×109 km3 for collapse at –2.5×109 yr, and not importantly smaller at 38×106 km2 and 122×109 km3 for collapse at –4.5×109 yr. Any of these values would suffice to account in order of magnitude for all the eras of mountain-building. An intense brief period of mountain-building on an immense scale would result from the Ramsey-collapse at whatever time past it may have occurred.  相似文献

SOHO/MDI magnetograms have been used to analyze the longitude distribution of the squared solar magnetic field 〈B 2〉 in the activity cycle no. 23. The energy of the magnetic field (〈B 2〉) is shown to change with longitude. However, these variations hardly fit the concept of active longitudes. In the epochs of high solar activity, one can readily see a relationship between longitude variations of the medium-strong ((|B| > 50 G or |B| > 100 G) and relatively weak (|B| ≤ 50 G or |B| ≤ 100 G) fields at all latitudes. In other periods, this relationship is revealed mainly at the latitudes not higher than 30°. The background fields (|B| ≤ 25 G) also display longitude variations, which are, however, not related to those of the strong fields. This makes us think that the fields of solar activity are rather inclusions to the general field than the source of the latter.  相似文献

The 1s 2-1s6p H auto-ionization resonance has been observed as a diffuse interstellar line in several highly reddened O and B stars. The identification based on its wavelength has been confirmed by its equivalent width in HD 183143. The addition of the 1s 2-1snp diffuse-line series raises the total H oscillator strength of absorption to a value close to 2.  相似文献

Observations of the forbidden coronal lines Fe xiv 530.3 nm and Fe x 637.4 nm obtained at the National Solar Observatory at Sacramento Peak are used to determine the variation of coronal temperature at latitudes above 30 during solar activity cycles 21–23. Features of the long-term variation of emission in the two lines are also discussed. Temperatures at latitudes below 30 are not studied because the technique used to determine the coronal temperature is not applicable in active regions. The polar temperature varies cyclically from approximately 1.3 to 1.7 MK. The temperatures are similar in both hemispheres. The temperature near solar minimum decreases strongly from mid-latitudes to the poles. The temperature of the corona above 80 latitude generally follows the sunspot cycle, with minima in 1985 and 1995–1996 (cf. 1986 and 1996 for the smoothed sunspot number, Rz) and maxima in 1989 and 2000 (cf. 1989 and 2000 for Rz). The temperature of the corona above 30 latitude at solar maximum is nearly uniform, i.e., there is little latitude dependence. If the maximum temperatures of cycles 22 and 23 are aligned in time (superposed epochs), the average annual N + S temperature (average of the northern and southern hemisphere) in cycle 23 is hotter than that in cycle 22 at all times both above 80 latitude and above 30 latitude. The difference in the average annual N + S maximum temperature between cycles 23 and 22 was 56 kK near the poles and 64 kK for all latitudes above 30. Cycle 23 was also hotter at mid-latitudes than cycle 22 by 60 kK. The last 3 years of cycle 21 were hotter than the last 3 years of cycle 22. The difference in average annual N + S temperatures at the end of cycles 21 and 22 was 32 kK near the poles and 23 kK for all latitudes above 30. Cycle 21 was also hotter at mid-latitudes than cycle 22 by at least 90 kK. Thus, there does not seem to be a solar-cycle trend in the low-coronal temperature outside of active regions.  相似文献

We have developed a camera dedicated to imaging faint transient noctilucent phenomena, such as aurorae, electric discharges, meteors or impact flashes, on dark planetary hemispheres. The Smart Panoramic Optical Sensor Head (SPOSH) is equipped with a back-illuminated 1024×1024 CCD chip E2V 47-20 with up to 90% quantum efficiency and has a custom-made optical system of high light-gathering power with a wide field of view of 120°×120°. Images can be obtained over extended periods at high rate to make monitoring for transient events possible. To reduce the data transmission rate, only those images (or relevant portions thereof) that contain events are returned to the user. The camera has a sophisticated processing unit prepared to interface with a spacecraft system, for image processing and event detection at rates of up to 3 images per second at full resolution. While software optimized for detection of any noctilucent phenomenon can be implemented, the software is currently optimized for the detection of meteors. Over the past years, we have routinely carried out outdoor tests with 4 camera breadboard units that demonstrate that the camera has excellent radiometric performance and geometric resolution at low light levels over its large field of view. The camera has been demonstrated to capture meteors of magnitudes as faint as +6m moving at angular speeds of 5°/s. The camera opens up new science opportunities for planetary missions.  相似文献

The astrophysical jet experiment at Caltech generates a T=2–5 eV, n=1021–1022 m−3 plasma jet using coplanar disk electrodes linked by a poloidal magnetic field. A 100 kA current generates a toroidal magnetic field; the toroidal field pressure inflates the poloidal flux surface, magnetically driving the jet. The jet travels at up to 50 km/s for ∼20–25 cm before colliding with a cloud of initially neutral gas. We study the interaction of the jet and the cloud in analogy to an astrophysical jet impacting a molecular cloud. Diagnostics include magnetic probe arrays, a 12-channel spectroscopic system and a fast camera with optical filters. When a hydrogen plasma jet collides with an argon target cloud, magnetic measurements show the magnetic flux compressing as the plasma jet deforms. As the plasma jet front slows and the plasma piles up, the density of the frozen-in magnetic flux increases.  相似文献

R-matrix calculations of electron impact excitation rates in 0 III are used to derive the electron-density-sensitive emission-line ratioR = 1 (2s 2 2p 23 P 2-2s 2 2P 23 P 1)/I (2s 22p 23 P 1 - 2s 22p 23 P 0) =I (52μm)/I (88μm) for a range of electron temperatures(Te = 5000-20000 K) and densities(N e =10–10 5 cm−3) applicable to planetary nebulae. Electron densities deduced from the observed values ofR in several planetary nebulae are in excellent agreement with those deduced from C1 I and Ar IV, which provides support for the accuracy of the atomic data adopted in the calculations.  相似文献

The effects of the amount of sodium ions, their solar angles correlation, temperature and velocities, have been explained as consequences of the almost full penetration of the second mode of micrometeorite fluxes (M>10–8 g) across the Io atmosphere to its surface, whereas volcanism may satisfy only the amount of sodium.Conclusions about the formation of fine grains on the Io surface, unflooded by lava, are presented. The upper limit on the quiet time solar neutron flux from 1–20 MeV has been measured to be less than 2 × 10-3 n cm-2 s–1 at the 95% confidence level. This result is deduced from the OGO-6 neutron detector measurements of the day-night effect near the equator at low altitudes for the period from June 7, 1969, to December 23, 1969. The integrated magnitudes of 221 Galactic open clusters have been used to derive the luminosity function. The completeness of the data has also been discussed. In the luminosity distribution the maximum frequency of clusters occurs nearI (Mv) = −3 m . 5, and some plausible reasons for a sharp cut-off atI (Mv) = −2m. 0 have been discussed. It is concluded that the paucity of the clusters fainter thanI (M v) = −2 m .0 is not purely due to selection effects. The surface density of the clusters for different magnitude intervals has. been obtained using the completeness radius estimated from the logN- logd plots. A relation betweenI (Mv) and surface density has been obtained which yields a steeper slope than that obtained by van den Bergh & Lafontaine (1984).  相似文献

Identifications are proposed for twenty of the twenty-eight coronal lines observed in the spectra obtained during a rocket flight into the path of the 7 March, 1970 solar eclipse. The methods by which the lines have been identified are discussed. Most of the lines identified are from forbidden transitions between levels in the ground 2p n and 3p n configurations in high ions of magnesium, silicon, sulphur, iron, and nickel. The temperature range represented is from 6.9 × 105 K to 2.5 × 106 K. The classification of three lines of Fexii and two of Nixiv has led to a revised identification for the near ultraviolet 2 D 3/2-2 P 1/2 transition in Fe xii. This transition can be identified with the line at 3072 Å rather than that at 3021 Å as previously suggested in the literature.  相似文献

Cylindrically symmetric inhomogeneous string cosmological model in presence of electromagnetic field is investigated. We have assumed that F 23 is the only non-vanishing component of F ij . To get the deterministic solution, it has been assumed that the expansion (θ) in the model is proportional to the eigen value σ 1 1 of the shear tensor σ i j .
