The radial-velocity curves of optical components in X-ray binary systems can differ from the radial-velocity curves of their barycenters due to tidal distortion, gravitational darkening, X-ray heating, etc. This motivated us to investigate how the semi-amplitudes of the radial-velocity curves of these optical components can depend on the binary-system parameters in a Roche model. The K correction is taken to be the ratio of the radial velocity semi-amplitude for a star in the Roche model to the corresponding value for the stellar barycenter. K corrections are tabulated for the optical stars in the massive X-ray binaries Cen X-3, LMC X-4, SMC X-1, Vela X-1, and 4U 1538-52.  相似文献

We discuss the results of optical spectroscopic monitoring of Cyg X-1 = HDE 226868/V1357 Cyg in 2002–2004. Our spectroscopy was carried out at the Terskol Observatory (Kabarda-Balkaria, Russia; the resolving power was R = 45 000 and 13 000) and at the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO, Korea, R = 30 000 and 44 000). Each spectrum covers most of the optical range. We obtained a total of 75 echelle spectra on 33 nights, during both “soft” and “hard” X-ray states of Cyg X-1. We study the influence of the X-rays on spectral-line profiles using RXTE/ASM X-ray data. We find that the X-ray flare of June 13, 2003 resulted in strong variations of the emission profiles of the Hα and Hellλ4686 Å lines within a night. This behavior is due to variations of the ionization state of the gas in the system. We also analyzed line-profile variations with orbital phase. A spectral atlas of Cyg X-1 was created, and the lines it contains identified. A total of 172 stellar lines and blends belonging to 12 chemical elements (H, He, C, N, O, Ne, Mg, Al, Si, S, Fe, Zn) were identified. The spectral classification of HDE 226868 as an ON star is confirmed.  相似文献

We have analyzed the observed radial-velocity curve for the X-ray binary M33 X-7 in a Roche model. We have analyzed the dependence between the component masses and the degree of filling of the optical star’s Roche lobe to obtain the ratio of the masses of the optical star and compact object. For the most probable mass of the optical star, m v = 70 M⊙, the mass of the compact object is m x = 15.55 ± 3.20 M⊙. It has been shown that black holes with masses of mx = 15 M⊙ and even higher can form in binaries. We present characteristic evolutionary tracks for binary systems passing through an evolutionary stage with properties similar to M33 X-7-type objects. According to population-synthesis analyses, such binaries should be present in galaxies with masses of at least 1011 M⊙. The present number of such systems in M33 should be of the order of unity. We have also studied the evolutionary status of the X-ray binary IC 10 X-1 with a Wolf-Rayet component, which may contain a massive black hole. The final stages of the evolution of the M33 X-7 and IC 10 X-1 systems should be accompanied by the radiation of gravitational waves.  相似文献

Evolutionary tracks for the X-ray binaries Cyg X-3, IC 10 X-1, NGC 300 X-1, SS 433, and M33 X-7 are computed using the Scenario Machine code. The compact objects in IC 10 X-1, NGC 300 X-1, and M33 X-7 are the most massive stellar-mass black-hole candidates. Cyg X-3, IC 10 X-1, and NGC 300 X-1 are the only currently known Wolf-Rayet stars with degenerate companions. SS 433 is the only known superaccretor in the Milky Way. Therefore, the stars studied provide excellent laboratories for testing scenarios for the evolution of binaries under extreme conditions. The classical evolutionary scenario is consistent with modern observational data. During the evolution of these binaries, hypernova explosions accompanied by the collapse of stellar cores with large angular momenta can occur, leading to long gamma-ray bursts. At the end of their evolution, Cyg X-3, IC 10 X-1, NGC 300 X-1, and SS 433 may form binary relativistic objects, which will subsequently merge due to the radiation of gravitational waves. The gravitational waves emitted during mergers of relativistic stars should be detectable by existing and future gravitational-wave antennas. In the course of its future evolution, M33 X-7 will pass through a Thorne-?ytkow stage. The formation of a Thorne-?ytkow object can also be accompanied by gravitational-wave radiation.  相似文献

The variation of the orbital periods found in high-mass X-ray binaries occurring over time can be explained by two models. According to the first model, orbital decay occurs due to dynamic tidal forces. The second model shows that the change occurs due to the inertia moments of a massive star during its evolution. These models are applied to LMC X-4 and Cen X-3.  相似文献

The current evolutionary stage of the binary systems IC 10 X-1 and NGC 300 X-1, which contain a massive black hole and a Wolf–Rayet star with a strong stellar wind that does not fill its Roche lobe, is considered. The high X-ray luminosity and X-ray properties testify to the presence of accretion disks in these systems. The consistency of the conditions for the existence of such a disk and the possibility of reproducing the observed X-ray luminosity in the framework of the Bondi–Hoyle–Littleton theory for a spherically symmetric stellar wind is analyzed. A brief review of information about the mass-loss rates of Wolf–Rayet stars and the speeds of their stellar winds is given. The evolution of these systems at the current stage is computed. Estimates made using the derived parameters show that it is not possible to achieve consistency, since the conditions for the existence of an accretion disk require that the speed of the Wolf–Rayetwind be appreciably lower than is required to reproduce the observedX-ray luminosity. Several explanations of this situation are possible: (1) the real pattern of the motion of the stellar-wind material in the binary is substantially more complex than is assumed in the Bondi–Hoyle–Littleton theory, changing the conditions for the formation of an accretion disk and influencing the accretion rate onto the black hole; (2) some of the accreting material leaves the accretor due to X-ray heating; (3) the accretion efficiency in these systems is nearly an order of magnitude lower than in the case of accretion through a thin disk onto a non-rotating black hole; (4) the intensity of the Wolf–Rayet wind is one to two orders of magnitude lower than has been suggested by modern studies.  相似文献

We present the results of UBV photoelectric and CCD observations of Her X-1/HZ Her near its primary minimum in 1999, when the object was in an anomalous low X-ray state, together with UBV observations accumulated since 1988. We compare the orbital light curves in the normal and anomalous low state, which differ considerably. The differences can be interpreted as being due to changes in the temperature and size of the hot spot on the stellar surface illuminated by the X-ray pulsar. The observations show that the accretion-disk luminosity was a factor of six to ten lower in 1999 than in the normal state. We used all available photoelectric data to compute the power spectrum in the B band. The only significant peaks are those corresponding to the orbital period and to beating of the orbital period with the periods characterizing gaps in the observations (one year and one day) and with the 35-day period. We conclude that it is impossible to determine the direction of the disk precession from the power spectrum alone.  相似文献

The evolution of close binary systems containing Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars and black holes (BHs) is analyzed numerically. Both the stellar wind from the donor star itself and the induced stellar wind due to irradiation of the donor with hard radiation arising during accretion onto the relativistic component are considered. The mass and angular momentum losses due to the stellar wind are also taken into account at phases when the WR star fills its Roche lobe. It is shown that, if a WR star with a mass higher than ~10M fills its Roche lobe in an initial evolutionary phase, the donor star will eventually lose contact with the Roche lobe as the binary loses mass and angular momentum via the stellar wind, suggesting that the semi-detached binary will become detached. The star will remain a bright X-ray source, since the stellar wind that is captured by the black hole ensures a near-Eddington accretion rate. If the initial mass of the helium donor is below ~5M , the donor may only temporarily detach from its Roche lobe. Induced stellar wind plays a significant role in the evolution of binaries containing helium donors with initial masses of ~2M . We compute the evolution of three observed WR-BH binaries: Cyg X-3, IC 10 X-1, and NGC 300 X-1, as well as the evolution of the SS 433 binary system, which is a progenitor of such systems, under the assumption that this binary will avoid a common-envelope stage in its further evolution, as it does in its current evolutionary phase.  相似文献

Remediation with surfactant foam of PCP-contaminated soil   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
An investigation was made into evaluating the capability of surfactants in the form of foam for removing the contaminant pentachlorophenol (PCP), a highly toxic, wood preservative, from soil. Several surfactants were investigated for their ability to make foam. Two of them, Triton X-100 and JBR425 (a rhamnolipid biosurfactant), generated foam with higher quality (99%) and higher stability than other surfactants. Triton X-100 and JBR425 were then used to investigate the removal efficiency in soils contaminated with pentachlorophenol (PCP). Triton X-100 showed better results in terms of final removal efficiency. Triton X-100 (1%) removed 85% and 84% of PCP from fine sand soil and sandy-silt, respectively, contaminated with 1000 mg/kg PCP. These values were 60% and 61% for JBR425 (1%). Of this, 66% and 57% of the PCP was removed by volatilization by Triton X-100 and 36% and 44% by JBR425. Further experiments with Triton X-100 indicated that 1% Triton X-100 removed more than 0.5% and that PCP removal was approximately the same for 1% Triton X-100 for a higher contaminant level (3000 mg/kg) but more pore volumes of foam were required for fine sand (23 pore volumes compared to 12). For the sandy-silt soil, PCP removal was higher for the higher contaminant level, 84% compared to 76%. More pore volumes were required (35 compared to 21). Comparison of liquid and foam injection of 1% Triton X-100 indicated that the foam removed more than twice as much PCP in all cases than the liquid surfactant solution. The results of this study on a sandy and sandy-silt media, thus, found that the foam can be used as a fluid to enhance soil remediation under low pressures compared to other fluids such as liquid surfactant solutions.  相似文献

We present the results of WBVR observations of the low-mass X-ray binary V1341 Cyg = Cyg X-2. Our observations include a total of 2375 individual measurements in four bands on 478 nights in 1986–1992. We tied the comparison and check stars used for the binary to the WBVR catalog using their JHK magnitudes. The uncertainty of this procedure was 3% in the B and V bands and 8%–10% for the W and R bands. In quiescence, the amplitude of the periodic component in the binary’s B brightness variations is within 0.265 m –0.278 m (0.290 m –0.320 m in W); this is due to the ellipsoidal shape of the optical component, which is distorted with gravitational forces from the X-ray component. Some of the system’s active states (long flares) may be due to instabilities in the accretion disk, and possibly to instabilities of gas flows and other accretion structures. The binary possesses a low-luminosity accretion disk. The light curves reveal no indications of an eclipse near the phases of the upper and lower conjunctions in quiescence or in active states during the observed intervals. We conclude that the optical star in the close binary V1341 Cyg = Cyg X-2 is a red giant rather than a blue straggler. We studied the longterm variability of the binary during the seven years covered by our observations. The optical observations presented in this study are compared to X-ray data from the Ginga observatory for the same time intervals.  相似文献

We have calculated the degree and position angle of the polarization of radiation scattered in a magnetized, optically thin or optically thick envelope around a central source, taking into account Faraday rotation of the plane of polarization during the propagation of the scattered radiation and the finite size of the radiation source. The wavelength dependence of the degree of polarization can be used to estimate the magnetic field of the source (a star, the region around a neutron star, or a black hole), and we have used our calculations to estimate the magnetic fields in a number of individual objects: several hot O and Wolf-Rayet stars, compact objects in X-ray close binaries with black holes (SS 433, Cyg X-1), and supernovae. The spectrum of the linear polarization can be used to determine the magnetic field in the vicinity of a central supermassive black hole, where the polarized optical radiation is generated. In a real physical model, this value can be extrapolated to the region of the last stable orbit. In the future, the proposed technique will make it possible to directly estimate the magnetic field in the region of the last stable orbit of a supermassive black hole using X-ray polarimetry.  相似文献

We have carried out three-dimensional hydrodynamical modeling of the formation of an accretion disk around a compact object due to radiative wind of a massive donor in a close binary system. The massive X-ray binary Cen X-3, which has a precessing accretion disk and may possess relativistic jets, is considered as an example. The computations show that, when the action of the central compact object on the formation of the wind is taken into account, the radiative wind forms an accretion disk with a radius of 0.16 (in units of the orbital separation), which accretes at a rate close to 1 × 10?8 M /yr. In this model, the disk is spherically symmetrical and geometrically thick, with a tunnel going from the accretor to the upper layers of the disk along the accretor’s rotational axis at the disk center. The number density of the gas in the tunnel is five orders of magnitude lower than in the disk. The wind-disk interaction at the outer boundary of the disk produces a strong shock (wind-disk shock) directed toward the donor. The black-body emission of the disk and tunnel is nonstationary, and resembles the outbursts observed in Cen X-3. An analysis of the location of the region of nonstationary emission suggests that the outbursts occur in the wind-disk shock.  相似文献

We have obtained the first estimates of the masses of the components of the Her X-1/HZ Her X-ray binary system taking into account non-LTE effects in the formation of the H γ absorption line: m x = 1.8 M and m v = 2.5 M . These mass estimates were made in a Roche model based on the observed radial-velocity curve of the optical star, HZ Her. The masses for the X-ray pulsar and optical star obtained for an LTE model lie are m x = 0.85 ± 0.15 M and m v = 1.87 ± 0.13 M . These mass estimates for the components of Her X-1/HZ Her derived from the radial-velocity curve should be considered tentative. Further mass estimates from high-precision observations of the orbital variability of the absorption profiles in a non-LTE model for the atmosphere of the optical component should be made.  相似文献

Regularities have been searched for in the dynamics of characteristics of flare solar radiation during the development of the active region NOAA 0069 in the interval of August 14–24, 2002. The SONG (Solar Neutrons and Gamma rays) instrument onboard the Russian CORONAS-F Solar Observatory recorded hard X-ray and gamma-ray radiation in nine of the 30 flares of class above C5 in this active region within the indicated time interval. It was obtained that, in accordance with the development of the active region, the X- and gamma-ray flux tended to increase at the flare maxima while the hard X-ray spectral index tended to decrease; flares with a harder radiation spectrum occurred in the sunspot umbra, i.e., in the region with the strongest magnetic fields.  相似文献

We present results of four-color (WBVR) photoelectric observations of the close binary HZ Her = Her X-1 in 1986–1988. As a rule, the duration of the observations exceeded two 35-day X-ray orbital periods in the 1986–1988 observing seasons. The accuracy and length of the photoelectric observations facilitated multi-faceted studies, which enabled us to define several fine photometric effects in the light curves of the binary more precisely and attempt to interpret them in a model for the matter flow from the optical component to the accretion disk around the neutron star. This model provides a satisfactory explanation for the inhomogeneity of the gas flow and “hot spot,” as well as the existence of distinct “splashes” moving in their own Keplerian orbits around the outer parts of the Keplerian disk. We present series of light curves for all the observing seasons, as well as color-color diagrams that reflect the physics of various photometric effects. The transformation coefficients for each of the instrumental systems for the three observatories at which the observations were carried out are given. Atmospheric extinction was taken into account duringmulti-color observations of the object, with subsequent correction for atmospheric effects with accuracies ranging from 0.003 m to 0.005 m for air masses up to M(z) = 2.  相似文献

Theoretical absorption-line profiles and radial-velocity curves for tidally deformed optical stars in X-ray binary systems are calculated assuming LTE. The variations in the profile shapes and radial-velocity curve of the optical star are analyzed as a function of the orbital inclination of the X-ray binary system. The dependence of the shape of the radial-velocity curve on the orbital inclination i increases with decreasing component-mass ratio q = m x /m v . The integrated line profiles and radial-velocity curves of the optical star are calculated for the Cyg X-1 binary, which are then used to estimate the orbital inclination and mass of the relativistic object: i < 43° andm x = 8.2–12.8 M. These estimates are in good agreement with earlier results of fitting the radial-velocity curve of Cyg X-1 using a simpler model (i < 45°, m x = 9.0–13.2 M).  相似文献
