We conducted photometric and spectroscopic observations of Ross 15 in order to further study the flare properties of this less observed flare star.A total of 28 B-band flares are detected in 128 hr of photometric observations, leading to a total flare rate of 0.22-0.040.04 h-1,more accurate than that provided by previous work.We give the energy range of the B-band flare(1029.5-1031.5 erg) and the flare frequency distribution(FFD) for the star.Within the same energy range, the FFD is lower than that of GJ 1243(M4)and YZ CMi(M4.5),roughly in the middle of those of three M5-type stars and higher than the average FFDs of spectral types> M6.We performed, for the first time for Ross 15,simultaneous high-cadence spectroscopic and photometric observations, resulting in detection of the most energetic flare in our sample. The intensity enhancements of the continuum and Balmer lines with significant correlations between them are detected during the flare, which is the same as those of other deeply studied flare stars with similar spectral type.  相似文献

Sinusoidal variations in Johnson'sB-band of the flare star EV Lac have been confirmed at its quiet state luminosity. The cycle lengths are more than one hour and less than two hours with amplitudes varying from 0 . m 105 to 0 . m 306. These registered cycles have agreed with cycles detected by Mavridis and Varvoglis (1990) and Mavridis (1990). In the same time, the cycles have confirmed the light variation detection in Johnson'sV-band in the same flare star by Pettersen (1980) with a cyclic period equals about 4 . d 378 and an amplitude of about 0 . m 07. Our net results confirm, to some extent, the presence of active region(s) as an origin of stellar flare phenomenon of UV Ceti type flare stars. We can cautiously say that the solar and stellar flare phenomenon have a similar origin.  相似文献

The results of U -filter flare monitoring of the binary flare star FL Vir = Wolf 424 is presented. 57 flares with energies between  2 × 1028  and  2 × 1031 erg  were recorded in 20 h of observation. The properties of flare occurrence and flare time-scales are analysed, and the flare activity level in 1980 April is determined to be   L f( U ) = 8.0 × 1026 erg s−1  . This is larger than previously published results and may indicate a variation in the flare activity level on a time-scale of years. An analysis of existing data indicates that the flare activity level correlates with the relative orbital positions of the stars.  相似文献

The problem of the flare taking place on opposite sides of a star is considered. Such a screened flare, diffused through the star's atmosphere (chromosphere), may also be registered. The theoretical light curve for diffused flare event is derived, which differs strongly from the usual flare light curves. The light curve of diffused flare is characterized first of all by its very slow rise of brightness. This result opens quite a new direction to understand the nature of the so-called slow flares, observed often among the UV Cet-type stars as well as flare stars in aggregates. All slow flares can be interpreted as quite ordinary flares of quite ordinary flare stars — taking place, however, on the opposite sides of the star. The results of interpretation of some slow flare events of YY Gem and three flare stars in Orion are presented. An attempt is made for the determination of actual amplitudes of screened flares taking place on the opposite sides of a star.  相似文献

We present simultaneous UV , G , R and I monitoring of 19 M dwarfs that reveal a huge flare on the M9 dwarf with an amplitude in the UV of at least 6 mag. This is one of the strongest detections ever of an optical flare in an M star and one of the first in an ultracool dwarf (spectral types later than about M7). Four intermediate-strength flares  (Δ m UV < 4 mag)  were found in this and three other targets. For the whole sample we deduce a flare probability of 0.013 (rate of  0.022 h−1  ), and  0.049 (0.090 h−1)  for 2M1707+64 alone. Deviations of the flare emission from a blackbody is consistent with strong  Hα  line emission. We also confirm our previously found rotation period for 2M1707+64 and determine it more precisely to be  3.619 ± 0.015 h  .  相似文献

Long-term changes in two flare stars, EV Lac and BY Dra, have been detected by Mavridiset al. (1982). These long cyclic periods have been registered in theB-band at their quiescent-state luminosity as well as at their flare activity. Those observational data of the two previously mentioned flare stars as well as another observational data of the flare star, UV Cet, at its flare activity were submitted to our computer programme for periodicity detection excluding cyclic periods which have amplitudes less than tenth magnitude for great significance. Some of our results coincided with the long cyclic periods detected by Mavridiset al. (1982) while the remainder of our results have had no complete coincidence with those registered by Mavridiset al. (1982).  相似文献

We present a new flare star, which was discovered during our survey on a selected field at the edge of the Pleiades cluster. The field was observed in the period 2007–2010 with three different CCD‐cameras at the University Observatory Jena with telescopes from 25 to 90 cm. The flare duration is almost one hour with an amplitude in the R‐band of about 1.08 mag. The location of the flare star in a color‐magnitude diagram is consistent with age and distance of the Pleiades. In the optical PSF of the flare star there are two 2MASS objects (unresolved in most images in the optical Jena PSF), so it is not yet known which one of them is responsible for this flare. The BVRIJHK colors yield spectral types of M1 and M2 with extinction being Av = 0.231 ± 0.024 mag and Av = 0.266 ± 0.020 for those two stars, consistent with the Pleiades cluster (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Sinusoidal variations in bothV - andB-bands were detected in some flare stars of the UV Ceti type outside of flares. This detection has confirmed the light variation detection in Johnson'sV -band in EV Lac at quiet-state luminosity by Pettersen (1980) with a cyclic period equals about 4 . d 378 and an amplitude of about 0 . m 07. An interpretation of these short cyclic periods is that they are due to intensity modulations from a photospheric spot group as a result of stellar equatorial rotations. A short period of 14 days with an amplitude of 0 . m 099 was detected inB-band in AD Leo. For the two flare stars, BD+55° 1823 and DO Cep in bothV- andB-bands, cyclic periods of more than 3 days and less than 17 days with amplitudes more than 0 . m 090 and less than 0 . m 250 have been registered. A significant contribution has been found in the flare star EV Lac in bothV- andB-bands at its quiescent-state luminosity where the detected cyclic periods are agreed with that which was detected by Pettersen (1980) in the same flare star in Johnson'sV-band, about 4 days. Furthermore, we found the same cyclic period in the colour index,B - V (about 4 days) which strengthens starspot phenomenon. This colour index period could not be detected by Pettersen (1980).  相似文献

Results of cooperative observations of the flare star EV Lac in September 1993 are presented. One of the about 30 optical flares detected was powerful enough to permit a quantitative analysis of its intrinsic radiation with the colour-colour technique. Sinusoidal brightness variations due to spottedness of the stellar surface was found to have an amplitude V = 0.m0.24. Behaviour of the K band stellar brightness during strong and weak U band flares are considered. The upper limits of very fast optical brightness variations were estimated during both a moderate flare and quiet state of the star. No decametric bursts were observed during the campaign that could be certainly attributed to flare activity.  相似文献

The results from a flare star investigation in the open cluster Alpha Persei are presented. Photographic flare star monitoring and CCD photometry of the discovered 4 new flare stars are made. The flare star activity phenomenon is restricted to the classical flare stars (UV Ceti type) as classified in the GCVS. The V/V‐I diagramme of the members of the cluster with the locations of the considered flare stars is given. Most of the flare stars are probable cluster members. The flare frequency determined from the Rozhen flare star monitoring is very low–one flare event occurs for 38.5 hours effective observing time. Comparison with the flare activity of the Pleiades is made because of the small difference in the age and distance of the clusters.  相似文献

We report the serendipitous discovery of a flare star observed with the ROSAT X-ray observatory. From optical spectra, which show strong and variable emission lines of the hydrogen Balmer series and neutral helium, we classify this object as a M3.0Ve star, and estimate a distance of 52 pc from published photometry. Owing to the close proximity of the star (13.6 arcmin) to the calibration source and RS CVn binary AR Lacertae, long-term X-ray coverage is available in the ROSAT archive (∼50 h spanning 6.5 yr). Two large flare events occurred early in the mission (1990 June–July), and the end of a third flare was detected in 1996 June. One flare, observed with the Position Sensitive Proportional Counter (PSPC), had a peak luminosity L X=1.1×1030 erg s−1, an e-folding rise time of 2.2 h and a decay time of 7 h. This decay time is one of the longest detected on a dMe star, providing evidence for the possibility of additional heating during the decay phase. A large High Resolution Imager (HRI) flare (peak L X=2.9×1030 erg s−1) is also studied. The 'background' X-ray emission is also variable – evidence for low-level flaring or microflaring. We find that 59 per cent of the HRI counts and 68 per cent of the PSPC counts are caused by flares. At least 41 per cent of the HRI exposure time and 47 per cent of the PSPC are affected by detectable flare enhancement.  相似文献

V390 Aur is classified as a G8 spectral class active single giant by Fekel and Marshall (1991). Multi‐site cooperative high‐speed photoelectric monitoring was carried out for it in the period 1998‐2003 as part of a program developed in Bulgaria recently to study chromospherically active evolved stars. Astronomers from Greece and Ukraine joined the flare activity study of V390 Aur in 2000. As a result, several flares with a duration from seconds to minutes were detected on this star at 3 observatories. Taking into account all the events detected, the flare rate of the star is estimated to 0.205 flares per hour. Comparison with the active dwarfs AD Leo and EV Lac indicates that the flare rate of V390 Aur is lower than that of AD Leo but comparable with the well‐known flare star EV Lac. Thirty active regions were observed on the Sun during the period from October 19 to November 20, 2003. Hard X-ray and gamma-ray radiation was detected from four active regions (10484, 10486, 10488, and 10490): 14 solar flares stronger than M5.0 according to the GOES classification were recorded during this period by detectors onboard the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES), Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI), and other satellites. Five of these flares (and also the M2.7 flare of October 27, 2003) were also observed by the AVS-F apparatus onboard the CORONAS-F satellite. This paper discusses the time profiles and energy spectra of the solar flares of October 26, 2003 (M7.6), and October 29, 2003 (X10), and of the initial phase of the flare of November 4, 2003 (X18), obtained by the AVS-F instrument during the passage of the satellite over the regions near the geomagnetic equator. The spectra of the M7.6 flare of October 26, 2003, and of the initial phase of the X18 flare of November 4, 2003, in the energy band from 0.1 to 17 MeV contain no lines, whereas the spectrum of the flare of October 29, 2003, exhibits nuclear lines and the 2.2-MeV line during the entire flare gamma-ray emission registration. We also report the time profiles of the flare of October 29, 2003, in the energy bands corresponding to the continuum in the energy band 0.3–0.6 MeV, the nuclear lines of 56Fe, 24Mg, 20Ne, 28Si, 12C, and 16O, and the 2.2-MeV neutron-capture line. The analysis of these temporal profile periodograms shows the presence of a thin structure with characteristic scales from 34 to 158 s at the 99% confidence level. The AVS-F apparatus analyzes temporal profiles of low-energy gamma-ray emission with a temporal resolution of 1 ms within the first 4.096 seconds of solar flares. The analysis of the data reveals no regularities in the time series on time scales ranging from 2 to 100 ms at a confidence level of 99% for these three solar flares.  相似文献

Spectral observations of the flare star EV Lac made on the 2.6-m telescope at the Byurakan Observatory in 2000–2002 are reported. A powerful flare was detected and it was possible to follow the variation in the equivalent widths of the Hα and Hβ lines, both during the flare and during the quiescent phase of the star. It is shown that the profiles and equivalent widths of the lines underwent substantial changes. The equivalent widths of these emission lines reached a maximum roughly 40 min after the flare maximum. __________ Translated from Astrofizika, Vol. 49, No. 4, pp. 573–583 (November 2006).  相似文献

A light variation in Johnson'sV-band of flare star EV Lac has been registered by Pettersen (1980). The cycle length was 4 . d 378 with amplitude about 0 . m 07. A Fourier analysis programme has been applied on our measured data of the flare star BD+55°1823 in Johnson'sV andB bands. A period of 16d and amplitude of 0 . m 14 have been detected in theV-band.  相似文献

It is pointed out that the magnetic field of a star is originated from dynamo action associated with the stellar evolution. The magnetic field of a star is related with how much nuclear energy is generated in its phase of evolution. From this we can explain why some stars possess a magnetic field high than that of the Sun. In our case the magnetic field of the star is a by-product of the stars evolution and it has no influence on the internal structure of the star but it does have influence on the flare, chromosphere and coronal activities of the star. Again it is stressed that to confirm the activities of the star, the details of evolution of stars should be calculated according to the photon-neutrino coupling theory.  相似文献

Temperature variations of the flare star, EV Lac, at its quiet-state luminosity were computed from its colour indices,B - V, which were measured in Johnson's system, these daily temperature changes are the essential reason of the short-term behaviour appearance in the flare star which is due to the presence of active region(s) causing a temperature difference of a few hundred degrees from the photosphere. A correlation between the annual mean of temperature variations of the flare star at its quiet-state and the annual rate of some physical parameters of the flare star at its active-state was detected. This correlation can interpret the occurrence of the long-term behaviour of the flare star at its quiescent-state as found by Mavridiset al. (1982).  相似文献

In this study, we present the unpublished flare data collected from 222 flares detected in the B band observations of five stars and the results derived by statistical analysis and modeling of these data. Six basic properties have been found with a statistical analysis method applied to all models and analyses for the flares detected in the B band observation of UV Ceti type stars. We have also compared the U and B bands with the analysis results. This comparison allowed us to evaluate the methods used in the analyses. The analyses provided the following results. (1) The flares were separated into two types, fast and slow flares. (2) The mean values of the equivalent durations of the slow and the fast flares differ by a factor of 16.2 ± 3.7. (3) Regardless of the total flare duration, the maximum flare energy can reach a different Plateau level for each star. (4) The Plateau values of EV Lac and EQ Peg are higher than the others. (5) The minimum values of the total flare duration increase toward the later spectral types. This value is called the Half-Life value in models. (6) Both the maximum flare rise times and the total flare duration obtained from the observed flares decrease toward the later spectral types.  相似文献

A Fourier analysis programme was applied on observational data taken in Stephanion Observatory, Greece, for flare star AD Leo. The purpose of this task is to try to register a short period variation in Johnson'sB-band in the star's brightness at quiet-state to confirm a result obtained by Pettersen (1980) inV-band of the flare star EV Lac. A negative result has been obtained.  相似文献

This is an analysis of the dependence of the flare activity of the well known flare star UV Ceti on the linear distance between the components of this binary system. It is shown that its flaring activity clearly depends on the mutual distance of the components, while this kind of variability is not seen in isolated flare stars.  相似文献
