During the total solar eclipse at Akademgorodok, Siberia, Russia, on 1 August 2008, we imaged the flash spectrum with a slitless spectrograph. We have spectroscopically determined the duration of totality, the epoch of the second and third contacts and the duration of the flash spectrum. Here we compare the 2008 flash spectra with those that we similarly obtained from the total solar eclipse of 29 March 2006, at Kastellorizo, Greece. Any changes of the intensity of the coronal emission lines, in particularly those of Fe x and Fe xiv, could give us valuable information about the temperature of the corona. The results show that the ionization state of the corona, as manifested especially by the Fe xiv emission line, was much weaker during the 2008 eclipse, indicating that following the long, inactive period during the solar minimum, there was a drop in the overall temperature of the solar corona.  相似文献

The eclipsing binary AV Hya has been observed photoelectrically inU, B andV filters on 15 nights. The primary eclipse appeared to be total with a totality of 23 min duration. A modified period of 0d.6 834 062 has been obtained. Geometrical elements could only be determined for partial transit case.  相似文献

The RS CVn-type eclipsing binary star MM Her has been observed in two colours,B andV, in 1979, 1980, and 1983. Several minima times were obtained during the observations and new light elements calculated. The light curves of the system obtained in blue and yellow lights show a significant wave-like distortion which migrates towards the decreasing orbital phases. Its migration period was estimated to be about 3.5 yr. The amplitudes of the wave-like distortion inB andV appear to change each year. The primary minimum of the system is a total eclipse with a duration of 0d.08.  相似文献

Solar global radiation, air temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed were measured in Coronel Oviedo, Paraguay, within the path of totality of the eclipse of 3 November 1994. Global radiation decreased gradually as the sun was being eclipsed and became negligible during the totality, then increased to their normal values. Surface air temperature decreased significantly, about 3 C, with the lowest value occurring about 7 minutes after totality. Relative humidity, because of its dependence on temperature, increased as a consequence of the temperature decrease. Surface wind speed decreased gradually during the eclipse, as a result of the cooling and stabilization of the atmosphere. Although atmospheric pressure was also measured, it was not possible to record pressure changes clearly associated to the eclipse, since the pressure sensor was only able to detect pressure variations of at least 1 hPa.  相似文献

A new set of photoelectric B and V observations of W Ursae Majoris obtained during a period of one week in 1968 is presented. From the measurements it can be concluded that in general the light curve in both colors is free from complications. In particular, no systematic brightness differences between consecutive periods can be found. The observations made during total eclipse in two different periods yield flat minima fitting almost perfectly together, the mean error of the single measurement beeing of the order of 0.m003. The duration of the phase of totality is estimated to 0.036P=17.3 m thus confirming the value given by Cester and Gridelli. From a plot of the square deviations of the single observations (I/I)2 from the mean intensity curve vs phase it can be shown that the scattering decreases strongly during primary eclipse thus indicating that the source producing these fluctuations is essentially confined to the space between the two components. A comparison with earlier photoelectric observations also supports the assumption that the variational behavior of the light curve is caused by a gaseous cloud between the two components rather than by an envelope surrounding the whole system.Operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under contract with the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Some 8000 images obtained with the Solar Eclipse Coronal Imaging System (SECIS) fast-frame CCD camera instrument located at Lusaka, Zambia, during the total eclipse of 21 June 2001 have been analysed to search for short-period oscillations in intensity that could be a signature of solar coronal heating mechanisms by MHD wave dissipation. Images were taken in white-light and Fe xiv green-line (5303 ?) channels over 205 seconds (frame rate 39 s−1), approximately the length of eclipse totality at this location, with a pixel size of four arcseconds square. The data are of considerably better quality than those that we obtained during the 11 August 1999 total eclipse (Rudawy et al.: Astron. Astrophys. 416, 1179, 2004), in that the images are much better exposed and enhancements in the drive system of the heliostat used gave a much improved image stability. Classical Fourier and wavelet techniques have been used to analyse the emission at 29 518 locations, of which 10 714 had emission at reasonably high levels, searching for periodic fluctuations with periods in the range 0.1 – 17 seconds (frequencies 0.06 – 10 Hz). While a number of possible periodicities were apparent in the wavelet analysis, none of the spatially and time-limited periodicities in the local brightness curves was found to be physically important. This implies that the pervasive Alfvén wave-like phenomena (Tomczyk et al.: Science 317, 1192, 2007) using polarimetric observations with the Coronal Multi-Channel Polarimeter (CoMP) instrument do not give rise to significant oscillatory intensity fluctuations.  相似文献

The white-light corona from 3–9 R s and the XUV (170–500 Å) corona, photographed from a rocket at 1930 UT on 7 March, 1970, are compared with the X-ray corona photographed from a rocket flown at 1900 UT by AS & E, the H Ly- corona obtained during totality by Speer et al., the Fexiv 5303 Å corona from Hawaii, and total eclipse photographs in white-light and infrared.  相似文献

B andV observations of the W Ursae Majoris-type eclipsing variable system AK Her were made on five nights at the Ege University Observatory. Several times of minima were obtained during the observations and the new light elements were calculated. The light-time period was found to be about 75.72 years. The light curve of the system appears to change in each cycle for both colours. The secondary minimum of the system seems to be a total eclipse with a duration of about 42 m .5.  相似文献

We made photoelectric observations of the eclipsing system AZ Cas between 1975 September and 1976 December. This period corresponds to the ascending portion of the light curve, thus happily complements Tempesti's observations during the same eclipse. With these and other data we re-determined the new ephemeris Min = J.D.2442691 + 3403.6(±0.6) E, the duration of the eclipse D = 110 d, and the duration of totality d = 94 d. We found the fourth contact time to be different in different colours and the duration of the egress phase shorter than that of the ingress phase. An elementary photometric solution is presented. The sum of masses is found to be 32 M?, consistent with the spectroscopic values of Cowley et al. (1978). Their conclusion that the totality duration increases with time is, however, not confirmed.  相似文献

The flash spectra of the solar chromosphere and corona were measured with a slitless spectrograph before, after, and during the totality of the solar eclipse of 11 July 2010, at Easter Island, Chile. This eclipse took place at the beginning of Solar Cycle 24, after an extended minimum of solar activity. The spectra taken during the eclipse show a different intensity ratio of the red and green coronal lines compared with those taken during the total solar eclipse of 1 August 2008, which took place toward the end of Solar Cycle 23. The characteristic coronal emission line of forbidden Fe xiv (5303 Å) was observed on the east and west solar limbs in four areas relatively symmetrically located with respect to the solar rotation axis. Subtraction of the continuum flash-spectrum background led to the identification of several extremely weak emission lines, including forbidden Ca xv (5694 Å), which is normally detected only in regions of very high excitation, e.g., during flares or above large sunspots. The height of the chromosphere was measured spectrophotometrically, using spectral lines from light elements and compared with the equivalent height of the lower chromosphere measured using spectral lines from heavy elements.  相似文献

We give results of photoelectric photometry and spectral observations of Aur during its 1982–1984 ingress and total eclipse. Narrow-band light curves and variations in radial velocity within a night resulting from autoregression analysis all indicate short time scale variations in the F supergiant primary on the order of hours or fractions thereof. Fluctuations with an amplitude of ±25 Km/s and a period of 400 d appear to be present in the measured radial velocity of the primary during ingress and totality. Obvious changes in the H profile were also observed: around the second contact of the total eclipse, there was emission in the blue wing; while around the third contact of the atmosphere eclipse, there was emission in the red wing.  相似文献

The Solar Eclipse Corona Imaging System (SECIS) was used to record high-cadence observations of the solar corona during the total solar eclipse of 1999 August 11. During the 2 min 23.5 s of totality, 6364 images were recorded simultaneously in each of the two channels: a white light channel, and the Fe  xiv (5303 Å) 'green line' channel ( T ∼2 MK) . Here we report initial results from the SECIS experiment, including the discovery of a 6-s intensity oscillation in an active region coronal loop.  相似文献

Solar global radiation was measured in several places in Costa Rica during the total solar eclipse that occurred on July 11, 1991. In two of these places, Puntarenas and Santa Cruz, measurements in the ultraviolet range (295–385 nm) were also taken. In Santa Cruz, a normal incidence pyrheliometer with Schott filters OG530 and RG630 was used to measure direct solar radiation in its whole range, and in the 530–2800 nm and 630–2800 wavebands respectively. Global radiation, and consequently direct, diffuse and irradiance in any of the wavebands considered, decreased gradually as the sun was being eclipsed and reached zero during the totality, then increased to their normal values. Data registered in Santa Cruz were used to determine Ångstrom's atmospheric turbidity parameters and. Computations show that between 13:00 and 14:30 LT (local time), decreased and increased significantly. This indicates that atmospheric turbidity was high and large particles were more abundant than small ones. The size of hygroscopic particles increased during the eclipse when temperature decreased and relative humidity increased in a comparatively short time.  相似文献

R and I band CCD observations of the nova V1494 Aql during July-November 2002 are reported and the V, R, and I light curves are analyzed. The orbital light curve of this nova has an eclipse-like form with two unequal humps before and after the eclipse. The approach to the eclipse lasts twice as long as the emergence from it. The overall duration of the eclipse is about 0.45P orb. The depth of eclipse increases with wavelength and averages 0m.3 (V), 0m.5 (R), and 0m.7 (I). The secondary, shallow minimum has an average depth of 0m.1 in R and I and about 0m.03 in V. The hump at phase 0.65 is higher than the one at phase 0.17. The most probable explanation for the observed variations in the light with the phase of the orbital period may be self eclipsing of the accretion column in the magnetic exploding variable (white dwarf) together with partial eclipsing of the accretion region by the secondary component.  相似文献

Theuvby andVRI observations of Aur during the ingress and early totality phases obtained at the McDonald Observatory are analysed. The light and colour variations of Aur during the 1982–1984 eclipse are compared with those found during the 1955–1957 eclipse.  相似文献

By using a high-precision LaCoste-Romberg gravimeter, continuous and precise measurements were carried out during the March 9, 1997 total solar eclipse in Mohe region in Northeast China. The gravity variations were digitally recorded during the total solar eclipse so as to investigate the possible anomaly of the Sun and the Moon's gravitational fields on the Earth. After the careful processing and analysis of the observed data, no significant anomaly during the very solar eclipse was found. However, there are two ‘gravity anomaly valleys’ with near symmetrical decrease of about 6 ∼ 7 μg at the first contact and the last contact. This is the anomaly phenomenon observed and reported for the first time in the literature. This paper is intended to explain the observed anomaly by conducting the tilt experiment due to the thermal stress and temperature change in the solar eclipse. A new constraint limit on gravitational shielding is thus obtained. Some analysis and discussions are presented although further studies and research are highly needed. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The 7 March, 1970 total solar eclipse was observed at wavelengths of 3.2 and 8.3 mm; the object being to use the knife edge of the Moon as it passed across the Sun to improve angular resolution on the Sun. This in turn would provide a radial brightness distribution of the Sun with an angular resolution of a few seconds of arc.Excellent eclipse curves were obtained at 3 mm; however, some external interference marred the 8 mm record near totality. The 8 mm brightness distribution is subject to some uncertainty, but tends to show limb brightening. The 3 mm brightness distribution shows a well defined complex limb brightening within about 1 arc min of the optical limb. The maximum brightening is approximately 30% above the average disc temperature.  相似文献

The Behlen observatory 0.76 m telescope CCD photometer is used to obtain 347 observations of the short period (P0d.4) eclipsing binary star V719 Her. The observations done withV andR bandpass filters were made on 6 nights in 1993. Previously published light elements and the present five timings of minimum provide a new epoch and a more accurate orbital period of 0.4009828 days. Our analyses show that the period of the system appears to decrease. We recommend future monitoring of the eclipse minima for this system. No published spectral classification for V719 Her exists. From the color,V-R=0.391, we estimate it to be about F5.The 1993 version of the Wilson Devinney model gave the photometric solutions. The adopted solution indicates that V719 Her is a W UMa type contact binary. The mass ratio,q=(m 2/m 1, where star 1 eclipse at the primary minimum)=0.296 suggests that V719 Her is a WUMa system with type-A (transit during primary eclipse) configuration. The secondary minimum shows a total eclipse. V719 Her with period less than 0.5 and spectral class F5, is probably a zero-age contact system. Since our photometric solution shows that the luminosity difference between the components is very large, we suspect that V719 Her is most likely a single line spectroscopic binary. We recommend spectroscopic study of this system.  相似文献

Radial velocities of the primary star of Aur are presented for phases outside the eclipse between 1975 and 1985. A violent collapse of the atmosphere has occurred with a velocity of about 40 km s–1 on October 1977, indicating a decrease of 0.07 AU in the radius for three days. A shrinking of the primary star is suggested from the characteristics of eclipse light curves that the duration of totality has become longer and the duration of eclipse shorter from eclipse to eclipse. The decrement of radius is estimated to be about 16%, 0.2 AU, in recent 27 years.  相似文献

A part of the light curves of two detached (CD Tau and V909 Cyg) and one semi-detached (Algol) binaries have been analysed with the emphasis on the determinacy of the parameters of different systems from a part of their eclipse curves. A model light curve for whichr 1=0.050,r 2=0.150,i=90°, andL 1=0.800 were chosen, has also been considered for a further clarification of the determinacy problem of the eclipse parameters. Some insight into the determinacy is gained by varying one parameter and adjusting the others for the best fit to the light curves in the considered eclipse phases. It was realised that the determinacy problem of the unknown parameters is stored in the determinacy of the type of the eclipse minima. The attempts of the solutions with a false choice of initial elements result in finding (i) no minimum of 2 to give any acceptable solution, (ii) rapid departure from the false start and convergence on the correct solution, or (iii) a false solution mostly with a true inclinationi, but wrong sense of the ratio of the radii.  相似文献
