Summary. The magnetization of the Cambrian Wichita Mountains basement complex consists of several components, two of which are shown to be significant. The residual primary remanence is associated with the original titanomagnetite and the dominant secondary component is carried by minerals of the ilmenite-haematite series. The latter has been acquired at temperatures up to 300°C as a result of the regional hydrothermal alteration during late Palaeozoic. The secondary remanence is of thermochemical origin and carries a memory of a variable ambient field direction which may be modelled as a resultant of the geomagnetic field direction contemporaneous with the hydrothermal process and of the direction of the magneto-static field of the primary titanomagnetite. Although the destruction of the original presumably Cambrian remanence has been extreme, in a few cases its direction appears to have been recovered. The results are complicated by the possibility of a self-reversal of secondary remanence as well as geomagnetic field reversal. An issue unresolved by the investigation relates to the possibility of generation of magnetite by heat treatment of rock material in the laboratory. It is generally concluded that it is difficult to recover the original cooling thermoremanence direction in an igneous intrusion which has been subjected later in its life to extreme conditions of hydrothermal alteration.  相似文献

Summary. Sediment of fine silt grade (10μm median diameter) has been deposited in a flume on beds of various small slopes. The deviation of the remanence due to the slope (the "bedding error"β) has been measured and its variation with the angle of slope α has been ascertained for a geomagnetic field inclination of 80°. The ratio β/α is compared with that observed by Rees (1964) in natural sediments, and with that predicted from a simple theoretical model. The observed and predicted results are in satisfactory agreement for both natural and artificial sediments.  相似文献

A correct method for determining the direction of a synfolding remanence is described, and a new test, which in a number of cases can discriminate between a true synfolding remanence and a remanence that is the sum of pre- and post-folding components, is suggested. It is shown that it is possible to reveal the folding evolution of a local object under an assumption that the acquisition of the synfolding remanence was synchronous over this object.  相似文献

In this article, through the comparison of knowledge relating to historical earthquakes with the understanding of present-day earthquake mechanics and overall GPS slip rates in the eastern Mediterranean region, it has been possible to obtain an idea of how frequently large earthquakes may be expected in some parts of the region. It has also been possible to make an assessment from these early events of slip rates over a long period of time for the Gulf of Corinth in Greece, the Marmara Sea in Turkey and the Dead Sea Fault System, as well as deriving long-term magnitude–frequency relations for these same regions.
It has been demonstrated that slip rates calculated from historical data are in general comparable to those calculated from GPS measurements and field observations, while the size of historical earthquakes and their uncertainty can be quantified. This permits a more reliable estimation of the long-term hazard, the calculation of which is the concern of the engineering seismologist. It has also been shown that in most cases large earthquakes are less frequent when they are estimated from long-term data sets rather than from the instrumental period making the notion of recurrence time and of hazard assessment, questionable.
This study focuses on some of the few areas in the world for which long-term macroseism information exists and which facilitate this kind of analysis.  相似文献

Summary. A theoretical investigation of the way in which an isotropic rock containing single-domain particles acquires both IRM and ARM (or TRM) has indicated that stationary single-axis alternating field (af) demagnetization with the af axis at an angle to the remanence vector should produce progressive angular changes in a single-component remanence as demagnetization proceeds. Just before the remanence is completely removed it should lie at 90° to the af axis irrespective of the original orientation of the remanence (apart from 0°). Experimental observations on a rock sample support these deductions.
This analysis has been extended to investigate the way in which ARM (or TRM) and IRM are demagnetized by static three-axis demagnetization methods which are used by some workers in palaeomagnetism. Theory, in conjunction with the use of a numerical model, predicts that an ARM or TRM should not undergo significant direction changes when these methods are applied but an IRM should undergo progressive direction changes as demagnetization proceeds, usually moving until it makes an angle of cos−1 (1/3) with each of the three af axes just before it is removed. Confirmation that such changes do occur have been obtained by experiments on a rock sample. The relative merits of static and tumbling af demagnetization methods are also discussed.  相似文献

Slope failures cause billions of dollars of damage annually and put human lives at risk. This study employed field measurements and observations to provide the framework for laboratory simulations to investigate the effects of environmental characteristics on slope stability in the highly fractured bedrock region of the Boston Mountains, northwest Arkansas. Field measurements, to determine characteristics and possible controls of 10 shallow slope failures along an interstate highway, revealed that slope failures occurred within a relatively narrow range of slope angles (17–36°) and in loamy soils. Based on field observations, flume experiments were conducted to investigate the relationships between soil texture, slope angle, bedrock fractures, soil compaction, and slope instability. Time to failure differed (p < 0.05) among treatment combinations. Generally, slopes composed of loam were more stable than slopes composed of sand. Time to failure decreased more on slopes of 15–20° than on slopes of 20–25°. Flume slopes with sod cover never failed. This study provided a methodology for using field analyses of slope failures to guide laboratory experiments and demonstrated that complex interactions among environmental factors work to stabilize or compromise steep (>20°) slopes.  相似文献

Mineral magnetic properties have been used recently to classify and to attempt to quantify the sources of sediments through environmental systems. Linear modelling techniques could be used with a wide range of concentration-dependent magnetic measurements to quantify the sources of sediments. To investigate wider application of linear modelling techniques using mineral magnetic properties, research has been conducted using laboratory mixtures of up to six source materials, including both natural environmental materials and synthetic compounds. While six sources may seem ambitious, this figure was used as an absolute upper limit rather than giving a real prospect of mathematically unmixing six sources. It has been found that even with the most magnetically differentiable materials, large errors are encountered when modelling the sources of the mixtures. This paper investigates the causes of 'non-additivity' of certain magnetic measurements and the failure of the linear modelling of the sources of the mixtures. Possible reasons for this failure include source homogeneity, calibration and linearity of equipment, magnetic viscosity of materials and/or the changing physical characteristics of the source materials once mixed together (interaction effects). In testing linear additivity, low-frequency susceptibility is the most reliable mineral magnetic measurement, while remanence measurements suffer from a systematic error in the expected results. Results have shown that in the best controlled conditions where the sources are identified and are artificially mixed together, the results of linear modelling are quite poor and at best four sources can be 'unmixed' with reasonable success. It is suggested that interaction within the mixtures, especially when containing highly ferrimagnetic burnt environmental materials, causes some of the non-additivity phenomena.  相似文献

以内蒙古中部某风电场为实验风电场,采用随机森林(Random forest,RF)方法、相似误差订正(Analogue correction of errors,ACE)方法以及概率密度匹配方法(Probability density function matching method,PDF)分别对风电场风速预报进行订正及适用性研究。结果表明:3种方法在各季均对中尺度天气预报模式(Weather research and forecasting model, WRF)风速预报具有不同程度的订正效果,RF方法可以有效改善WRF误差较大的问题,但兼具误差过分放大情况,ACE方法和PDF虽然对较大误差的改善能力不及RF方法,但是能够较好地控制误差过分放大问题。此外,3种方法针对小于5 m·s-1的小风速段,订正效果不理想,随着风速的增加,订正能力逐渐增强。参照预报模型各自的优势,尝试开展多种预报模型的分风速等级集成应用,可以对不同风速等级下的WRF预报起到较好的改善作用。  相似文献

通过对风场中沙床表面沙粒的受力分析,建立了坡面沙粒起动风速的理论公式,并将计算结果与已有实验研究结果进行了比较,结果表明,给出的理论计算公式是正确的。在此基础上,详细讨论了坡角、风向角、荷质比、电场力以及空气上升力对坡面沙粒起动风速的影响。其结果是:坡角一定时,沙粒的起动风速随风向角的增大而增大;风向一定时,背风坡沙粒的起动风速随坡角的增大而变小;弱电场中电场力对沙粒起动风速几乎没有影响,强电场中随着沙粒荷质比的增大,起动风速明显减小;空气上升力明显使沙粒起动风速减小。  相似文献

A palaeomagnetic study of Vendian red sediments from the Lena River section on the western margin of Lake Baikal in the region of Cisbaikalia (54°N, 108°E) has isolated a stable remanence with direction D = 296.3°, I = −27.7° (high-temperature component) and a corresponding pole of 2.7°S, 168.2°E. The primary nature of this remanence is confirmed from a positive fold test, dual polarities and the presence of detrital haematite. This result, together with all late Precambrian–Early Cambrian palaeomagnetic data from Siberia, indicates that Siberia occupied low latitudes during that time. It has been proposed on the basis of palaeomagnetic data that Laurentia occupied high latitudes during the Vendian, so it would appear that there cannot have been any Laurentia–Siberia connection at that time. A review of Vendian to Cambrian Laurentian palaeomagnetic data shows that such an interpretation is ambiguous. An alternative interpretation places Laurentia in low latitudes and confirms the Laurentia–Siberia fit of Hoffman (1991 ) and Pelechaty (1996 ). However, the lack of Late Vendian palaeomagnetic data for Siberia still allows the possibility that it could have occupied high latitudes during that time.  相似文献

Summary. A detailed palaeomagnetic study of the Slate Islands meteorite impact site, northern Lake Superior, has successfully isolated a secondary Component of remanence which on the basis of field relationships, models of impact crater formation and laboratory investigation appears to be a Shock Remanent Magnetization (SRM).
Evidence for this hitherto rare type of naturally formed remanence is that:
(a) the component is confined to rocks having experienced intense shock (50 to more than 100 kb) on the basis of shatter-cone development and the presence of planar features in quartz and felspar
(b) the component appears to have been acquired virtually instantaneously in terms of normal geological processes as a combined palaeomagnetic—shatter cone analysis suggests that it was formed within a time interval (perhaps several minutes in duration) between the moment of impact and the formation of the central uplift
(c) the extent of magnetic resetting decreases with increasing distance from the centre of the impact site, and
(d) the degree of resetting increases with the abundance of low coercivity magnetic grains as given by Hcr , a relationship found by other investigators for experimentally-produced SRM.
Intrusive breccias found on the islands yield a secondary component of TRM or TRCM origin which was frozen in after central uplift formation. Increased convergence of shatter cone axes to a central focus after rotation of host rock blocks according to palaeomagnetic data, suggests that the SRM had the same direction as that found in the breccias and hence was aligned with the ambient field at the time of impact.  相似文献

A palaeomagnetic pole position, derived from a precisely dated primary remanence, with minimal uncertainties due to secular variation and structural correction, has been obtained for China's largest dyke swarm, which trends for about 1000 km in a NNW direction across the North China craton. Positive palaeomagnetic contact tests on two dykes signify that the remanent magnetization is primary and formed during initial cooling of the intrusions. The age of one of these dykes, based on U–Pb dating of primary zircon, is 1769.1 ± 2.5 Ma. The mean palaeomagnetic direction for 19 dykes, after structural correction, is D  = 36°, I  = − 5°, k  = 63, α 95 = 4°, yielding a palaeomagnetic pole at Plat=36°N, Plong=247°E, dp  = 2°, dm  = 4° and a palaeolatitude of 2.6°S. Comparison of this pole position with others of similar age from the Canadian Shield allows a continental reconstruction that is compatible with a more or less unchanged configuration of Laurentia, Siberia and the North China craton since about 1800 Ma  相似文献

A palaeomagnetic study has been carried out on late Palaeozoic rocks exposed in the Sierras Australes thrust and fold belt of Buenos Aires province (Argentina), in the early Permian red sandstones and clay siltstones of the Tunas Formation. The sections sampled are exposed in the eastern parts of the belt, in Sierra de las Tunas (north) and Sierra de Pillahuincó (south). More than 300 specimens were collected from 25 sites, in three localities with different structural attitudes. Demagnetization at high temperatures isolated a characteristic remanence at 20 sites. All the localities have a reverse characteristic remanence, suggesting that the magnetization was acquired during the Kiaman interval. Stepwise tectonic tilt correction suggests that the Tunas Formation in these localities acquired its magnetization during folding in early Permian times. Palaeomagnetic poles were computed for each locality based on partial tilt-corrected remanence directions. Taking into account the fact that these localities are close to one another and that the rocks are all of reverse polarity, a group syntectonic palaeomagnetic pole called Tunas was calculated: longitude: 13.9°E, latitude: 63.0°S; A 95 = 5.4°, K = 39.7, N = 19. This pole is consistent with previously calculated poles from South America assigned to the early Permian. In age it corresponds to the early Permian San Rafaelic tectonic phase of the Sierras Australes. Independent geological evidence indicates that the Tunas Formation underwent syndepositional deformation. We conclude that the Tunas Formation was deposited, deformed and remagnetized, all during the early Permian.  相似文献

Summary. Previous geomagnetic measurements in the Rhinegraben have led us to assume that the responsible currents have the properties of direct currents and that they all flow in the sediments filling the graben. In order to verify these conclusions, we have performed measurements in a mine at a depth of 650 m. By comparing the field simultaneously recorded at the surface, in the mine and at the reference station, it is possible to deduce that the anomalous currents have the above mentioned properties.  相似文献

NOAA-AVHRR satellite data have been used for a multi-year analysis of the seasonal variation of snow cover on the peninsula of Jameson Land located from 70°30'N to 72°N on the eastern coast of Greenland. Monitoring programmes for muskoxen and geese populations in Jameson Land wert started in the early 1980s to assess the impact of oil exploration in the area. This study was conducted to provide snow cover data to the wildlife monitoring programmes because snow cover is an important factor which can affect the numbers and distribution of muskoxen and other wildlife in the area.
Snow cover mapping is based on the geometric correction and radiometric calibration of each satellite scene before the visual bands are corrected for the terrain-effects and high solar zenith angle by using a simple radiation model. The atmospheric effect on the thermal infrared bands is corrected by using the "split-window" method. An automatic filtering routine with empirically determined thresholds is used to determine cloud-and haze-covered areas before the snow cover is computed from a linear expression using albedos of bare ground and full snow cover. By combining the satellite information with ground measurements and a digital terrain model, both the spatial distribution of snow cover and the total snow cover depletion can be obtained.
The method makes it possible to analyse the variation in regional and seasonal snow cover in wildlife habitats. The variation in snow cover depletion has been analysed in five subareas in the muskox area, and the results indicate that the snow cover pattern is an important factor which influences muskox calf crop and regional distribution of the muskox population. The method has proved useful for monitoring the duration of snow cover, and its application ought to facilitate the future study of wildlife habitats in extensive alpine and arctic areas.  相似文献

A palaeomagnetic study of the Elgee Formation red siltstones and shales in the Palaeoproterozoic Kimberley Basin of northwestern Australia has been carried out. All seven sampling sites revealed an extremely stable magnetic remanence carried by haematite. The age of the formation is confined by precise SHRIMP U–Pb ages of early diagenetic xenotime from rocks both above and below it to be 1704 + 7/−14 Ma, but this may represent a minimum age. The youngest detrital zircon grains in the underlying formation provide a maximum age of 1786 ± 14 Ma for the formation. The extreme stability of the remanence, the dissimilarity of the remanent direction from expected younger palaeomagnetic directions, and the lack of regional overprint in the 1790 ± 4 Ma Hart Dolerite just north of the study region support a primary origin for the remanence. A marginally positive fold test also supports a primary origin. The mean direction of D = 92.2°, I = 14.9°, α 95 = 6.4° gives a palaeopole at 4.4°S, 210.0°E with dp = 3.3°, dm = 6.5°. This pole, a previously reported palaeopole from the Hart Dolerite and ca. 1700 Ma overprint poles from the Pilbara Craton all agree with palaeopoles of similar ages from the McArthur Basin of northern Australia. Palaeomagnetic results thus suggest that the North and West Australian cratons were possibly joined together by approximately 1.7 Ga.  相似文献

利用6S模型结合暗目标法确定TM过境时的最优气象能见度,分别使用MODIS气溶胶产品(MOD04)、最优气象能见度作为TM的气溶胶光学厚度,对黄河源区的Landsat TM数据进行大气校正。以同步野外实测地面数据为标准,比较了两种气溶胶参数输入方法的校正结果,并从光谱曲线、植被指数、草地生物量的估算三方面探讨了大气校正的效果,两种气溶胶参数输入方法均可以对遥感图像进行有效的大气校正,消除因散射增加的辐射能量,同时补偿因吸收而损失的辐射能量。经过大气校正后的TM光谱更接近真实地表光谱,更有助于地物真实光谱信息的提取,同时对与该地区相似气候条件下影像的大气校正有借鉴意义。  相似文献

A newly developed field distribution measuring system based on a high- T c SQUID has been employed in the study of magnetic mineral distribution in several Permian sedimentary rocks. The instrument consists of a small, 1.4×1.4 mm sized YBaCu-oxide SQUID magnetic field sensor that is operated in a thin-walled dewar, so that the sample's surface, at room temperature, can be scanned at a distance of only ∼1.5 mm. The samples were subjected to a saturation remanence perpendicular to the surface and the scanning measurements in zero field reveal that the magnetization might be carried by only a small part of a sample, in one case associated with secondary oxide phases. High-resolution magnetic scans can aid in the interpretation of the magnetic remanence acquisition process.  相似文献

试从现有的大量遥感影像中提取不同环境下地物的反射率,以目前常用的ETM+影像数据和荔枝波谱数据提取为例,先对影像进行系统校正得到星上反射率,然后采用6S大气校正模型对图像进行订正,反演地物的真实反射率,并采用与野外实测相结合的方法,分析了星上反射率、6S反演的反射率与实测值之间的误差,结果证明6S校正法是一种较高精度的地物波谱反演方法,可以方便、快捷、准确地从现有的大量遥感影像上直接获取荔枝的反射率.为下一步的自动高效从影像反演地物反射率的研究奠定了基础.  相似文献
